Ronan Farrow says National Enquirer tried to blackmail him

(Photo by Bryan Bedder/Getty Images for GQ)

This week Jeff Bezos announced the National Enquirer was attempting to blackmail him with nude selfie they had in their possession. Now Ronan Farrow says the tabloid also attempted to blackmail him.

“I and at least one other prominent journalist involved in breaking stories about the National Enquirer’s arrangement with Trump fielded similar ‘stop digging or we’ll ruin you’ blackmail efforts from AMI,” Farrow tweeted Thursday evening.

“(I did not engage as I don’t cut deals with subjects of ongoing reporting.)”

Earlier Thursday, the Amazon CEO alleged that American Media Inc. — the Enquirer’s parent company — threatened to publish a nude photo of him if he didn’t stop investigating the magazine’s exposure of his affair and publicly declare that its reporting hadn’t been “politically motivated.”

AMI — which is run by David Pecker, a longtime pal of President Trump — has admitted to buying the rights to potentially embarrassing stories about the commander-in-chief in an effort to keep them from seeing the light of day.

In an April 2018 piece for The New Yorker, Farrow detailed the relationship between Pecker and Trump and said the magazine bought and buried stories to help his 2016 presidential campaign.

Wendy Williams afraid she’ll lose her show

Wendy Williams is “super scared” about losing her show, we’re told.

Sources said that the beloved daytime-TV host — who has been absent from her eponymous syndicated show since December for a number of reasons — is unsettled by the apparent success of her stand-ins, and she’s becoming concerned that she won’t be able to make it back on the air in time to save her gig.

“She’s super scared and anxious,” said an insider. “Watching [fill-in host] Nick Cannon being a huge hit with her audience is tough for her. They’re already starting to mess with the format. It’s like watching them screw around with her baby.”

Cannon filled in for Williams Monday through Wednesday this week, and won positive reviews.

“American Pie” actor Jason Biggs hosted Thursday’s edition of the show, and other guests hosts are booked through Feb. 15.

The reasons for Williams’ absence are somewhat murky. Her family announced in January that she had been hospitalized because of complications related to her Graves’ disease. She also fractured her shoulder in December, and she hosted her last appearances on the show wearing a sling.

But there have been persistent rumors that she’s also having personal difficulties involving her husband and the executive producer of the show, Kevin Hunter. Williams seemed to address that issue in a conversation with Cannon, and Cannon then related to the program’s audience that Williams had told him that “she wanted to speak as a family unit and her, Kevin and [their son] Little Kevin said they are all good.”

But, for all her insecurities, Williams can’t rush back now to retake the reins, said a source. “She’s in no state to get back on TV anytime soon,” the source said.

Ariana Grande is apparently supportive of ex-fiancé Pete Davidson‘s personal life.

The 25-year-old pop star was caught out and about in Los Angeles on Wednesday and was asked how she felt about Davidson’s new rumored romance with Kate Beckinsale.

They’re “so cute,” she shouted at TMZ.

Davidson, 25, and Beckinsale, 45, were getting flirty at a Golden Globes afterparty. Then last week, they were spotted leaving his comedy show hand-in-hand.

We were told that prior to getting cozy with Beckinsale, the “Saturday Night Live” star had been casually dating and even joined an exclusive dating app to help him find love.

It appears he might not have needed that app.

Bill Cosby moved to prison’s gen pop

Bill Cosby has been moved to a general population unit as he serves three to 10 years in prison for sexual assault in Pennsylvania.

The move last week comes after the 81-year-old actor spent about four months in special housing as he acclimated to the SCI-Phoenix in suburban Philadelphia.

A state prison spokeswoman says Cosby has a single cell and is not on a ward for older inmates.

Spokeswoman Amy Worden says inmates there can spend several hours a day in the gym or exercise yard, and other time in the library, class or day room. She says the legally blind Cosby has inmates assigned to help him at times, given his age and disability.

Cosby is serving time for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman at his home in 2004.

Lock of George Washington’s hair sells for $35K

This founding father must not have had many split ends.

A lock of George Washington’s hair sold at auction Friday for $35,763.60, according to Leland’s, the auction house that sold America’s first president’s luscious hair.

The starting bid for the lot was $2,500.

The hair follicles came attached to a letter signed by former Secretary of State James A. Hamilton, the third son of Alexander Hamilton, and dated March 20, 1871. The letter, addressed to a woman named Eleanor G. Collins, included the hair as a show of Hamilton’s “respect and regard” for her, according to the letter.

The locks can be seen gathered together with string and attached to the top of the stationery with sealing wax. The hair and letterhead are vintage matted and framed.

Hamilton identified the hair as belonging to Washington in the letter as well.

Leland’s says that the 5.31 inches of Washington’s hair emanated from the family of Alexander Hamilton.

The auction house says it usually avoids auctioning off pieces of hair due to “lack of strands and insufficient authenticity,” however, this piece was an exception. Leland’s states on the lot’s page that in this case, “the lock itself is hefty which is unusual as many of the early hair examples…of famous persons,” adding that the artifact “carries the original paper label from the sale.”

Bitcoin holder dies with password to account holding $190m

Canadian crypto exchange QuadrigaCX says it cannot repay most of $190 million in client holdings after its 30-year-old founder Gerald Cotten, the only person who knew the passwords to its “cold storage,” unexpectedly died in India in December 2018, Coindesk reported on Friday.

In a sworn affidavit with the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, widow Jennifer Robertson said that QuadrigaCX owes its customers some $190 million in both cryptocurrency and fiat money. QuadrigaCX has filed for creditor protection because it says it cannot access the funds stored in “cold storage,” just the comparatively smaller amount in a “hot wallet” used for transfers.

Cotten, 30, died in India last December from complications from Crohn’s disease, according to the company. He was in India “opening an orphanage to provide a home and safe refuge for children in need”.

Sounds like we lost a real asset to the world, let alone investors.

After reports that he allegedly kidnapped an ex-girlfriend surfaced on the internet, Soulja Boy is reportedly denying the allegations.

According to a report TMZ posted today (Feb. 5), Soulja denies allegations that he attacked his former girlfriend and left her bound to a chair for six hours. He also claims that he never even saw Kayla on the night the reported kidnapping happened.

Sources close to Soulja Boy say the alleged victim was dating the rapper prior to the incident. Aft er he broke up with her, Kayla returned to his house in L.A. last Friday night (Feb. 1) and apparently crashed her vehicle in his driveway after hitting a curb. Once people inside the house heard the crash, a woman who manages Soulja came outside and told her to leave.

Kayla apparently didn't like being denied at the door, because she allegedly attacked Soulja's manager and started a fight outside his home. Sources in Soulja's camp say that the injuries Kayla reported were actually from Soulja's manager, who acted in self defense after the ex-girlfriend pounced on her. Meanwhile, Soulja Boy reportedly stayed inside his home and didn't even come outside to see what was going on. His team maintains that Kayla's version of the story is completely false.

Michelle Williams returning to TV

Michelle Williams is returning to television for the first time in 16 years. She’s playing dancer and actress Gwen Verdon, whose career aspirations were supplanted by her marriage to choreographer-director Bob Fosse.

Oscar winner Sam Rockwell plays Fosse in the eight-episode FX series “Fosse/Verdon,” debuting April 9.

Williams’ last TV work was the hit series “Dawson’s Creek” that ended in 2003.

She sees parallels with Verdon, who was a working mother like Williams.

Williams pointed out a long gap in Verdon’s career while she stayed home to raise Nicole, her daughter with Fosse. Nicole Fosse is a creative consultant on the series.

Williams said Monday that such gaps are something all working mothers struggle with and called it “a very complicated dilemma.”

Demi Lovato quits Twitter after 21 Savage backlash

Demi Lovato took down her Twitter account Sunday night after receiving backlash for making light of rapper 21 Savage's recent detainment by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcementagents in Atlanta.

"So far 21 Savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl," Lavato tweeted.

Earlier that day, 21 Savage, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested in a "target operation" by ICE for being in the U.S. illegally after the agency revealed that he is a citizen of the United Kingdom and a convicted felon.

Shortly after the news broke, Lovato and thousands of others took to social media in response, with many in disbelief that the Grammy-award winning rapper, who has claimed to be from the South, isn't originally from Atlanta.

However, not everyone found the arrest to be a source of humor.

Rapper Wale responded to Lovato's tweet, writing: "Why is somebody freedom funny ...I don't get the joke."

"A lot of people were sending you love light, prayers etc. When people were making jokes about u at a rough time. A lot of people. Bless up," he wrote, referring to the singer's apparent drug overdose last Summer.

Other users responded to the singer on her Instagram page and mocked her history of drug abuse.

The "Confident" singer defended her tweet, saying she found humor in memes about the rapper possibly being deported.

"Sorry if I offended anyone. But it's no excuse to laugh at someone's addiction let alone their OD," she wrote in a post on her Instagram story.

Other rappers, including Migos' Offset responded to the online reaction, tweeting that the memes and reactions are not funny. He added that he is praying for Abraham-Joseph, 26, and his family as he goes through this immigration process.

Meek Mill, who served five months in prison after being sentenced in November 2017 to up to four years in prison for a probation violation stemming from a 2008 conviction on drug and firearm charges, also tweeted on Sunday: "Free 21."

ICE spokesperson Bryan Cox said in a statement on Sunday that the rapper has been placed in "removal proceedings" before the federal immigration courts and they will await the outcome of his case "to determine future actions."

His attorney, Dina LaPolt, said in a statement shortly after that she is working to get him released and "to clear up any misunderstandings."
