Lil Xan knows it’s time to get help.
The rapper, whose real name is Diego Leanos, released a new EP, “Xanarchy Militia,” on Wednesday night, then announced to plans to enter rehab next week.
“Dropping rn on [SoundCloud],rehab in 3 days i wanna leave my fans with some new music before [his Mac Miller tribute album] Be Safe,” he wrote on Instagram. “Love you guys”
Xan, 22, followed that announcement up with another Instagram post Thursday afternoon, this time clarifying his rehab timeline and thanking fans for their support.
“I just dropped out of SoundCloud Uni to go to rehab,???? I leave in like 5 days And I couldn’t be happier with this choice ???? I love you guys for being so supportive and can’t wait too get back clean headed ready to Finish my album.”
In the wake of his hero Mac Miller’s death of an accidental overdose in September and Lil Peep’s overdose in November of last year, Xan has been open about re-evaluating his relationship with drugs.
Shortly after his second post, the rapper told TMZ that he is struggling with opioids, like hydrocodone, and hopes that rehab will help him kick the habit once and for all.
“I’ve been way worse,” he said. “I’ve actually been ten times worse than what I am now. But I want to do rehab so I can get over this last little, like, hump – like, stretch — so I can finally get back to being Diego.”
He also said he plans to ditch his current stage name — a reference to Xanax — and go simply by DIEGO when he gets out.
