Matthew Perry gets super candid about drug abuse

Matthew Perry’s long awaited memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing‘, is set to come out on November first. And people are chomping at the bit. In part because of previews like the one he laid on People.com.

Matthew talks about the time just a few years ago when he almost died. When his opioid addiction had gotten so severe his colon actually exploded. You read that right. Exploded.

“The doctors told my family that I had a 2 percent chance to live,” he said. Explaining he spent two weeks in a coma and five months in the hospital and had to use a colostomy bag for nine months to treat the health crisis.

“I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that’s called a Hail Mary. No one survives that.”

But he did. And now with what seems to be a new lease on life, Matthew is ready to share the details of his dramatic and at times amazing life.
