Katy Perry sat down with Marie Claire and told them everything about her love life, specifically, why she and now-boyfriend John Mayer took some time off. Personally, I’ve always thought that he broke up with her and not the other way around, but Ms. Perry makes it seem like she needed to take time away from Mayer to deal with feelings she had about ex-husband Russell Brand. From Marie Claire:
I took a break from my boyfriend, not one that I wanted. It was like a splash of cold water to search inward on what was going on with me. That is what led me to this new awakening, this realizing, If I don’t do some self-love, I’m not going to be able to keep the love that I want. I still needed to deal with all of my ex-husband stuff. I hadn’t.
It’s almost like if I kept on talking about it [the Russell Brand relationship], it would seem like I actually cared about it. I don’t.
I still think she and Brand broke up because his sex addiction came roaring back, but it’s just a theory.
She also talks about having kids:
I’m definitely not there yet, and I can’t plan that far in advance. When I decide to have a family, I’ll just want to be Mom for a little bit … [Brand] really wanted me to have children, and I knew I wasn’t ready—I think it was a way of control. I think it was part of, If I have a kid, then I would have to sacrifice—I’d have to be at home more. I really wanted to, but I knew I wasn’t ready for it. It wasn’t like, ‘Hey, let’s have a kid because we’re in love.’

Oh snap! My girl Katy Perry is about to do some of the most important work of her life, let alone her career, as she’s been appointed UNICEF’s new Goodwill Ambassador. What will she do in that role, you ask? Well, she’ll work with vulnerable young people to help them in finding and securing a brighter future for themselves, of course.
Here’s what Katy had to say about the honour:
“I believe young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help.
“I am honored to join UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador, and committed to doing everything I can to help children and adolescents who come from such different backgrounds but want the same thing: a brighter future.”
And a statement from UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Luke:
“Katy Perry is already a champion for children, and we look forward to hearing her ‘roar’ on behalf of UNICEF.
“We are delighted that she is joining us as UNICEF’s newest Goodwill Ambassador and lending her remarkable voice to amplify the voices of children and young people around the world.”
You might remember that Katy visited Madagascar earlier this year as part of a UNICEF mission, so she’s no stranger to this work. Good for her – if there’s any useful way to use your celebrity status, giving back like this is definitely one of them.

Remember how Katy Perry and John Mayer did that awful duet called ‘Who You Love’ for John’s album and it was kinda awful and we all sorta hoped it would just fade into the wood work and never really see the light of day? Bad news! They’re releasing it as a single! BOO!

Katy Perry performed her latest single, “Unconditionally” at the AMAs dressed as a Geisha, which caused some controversy. It pissed some people off, basically, who thought she was being culturally insensitive. Well guess who is coming to her defense? None other than Lady Gaga. She doesn’t get what people are freaking out about, in terms of the Geisha wear. She joked in an interview with Carson Daly, via Huffington Post:
Maybe it’s because ‘Unconditionally’ means you’re supposed to love no matter what geishas are paid? I think people are generally too sensitive and they should just leave her be, but you know, I’m not really the person to ask.
Dude, she’s got a point. Except that technically, Geishas aren’t paid to love, but to entertain. So maybe she doesn’t have a point. But I get what she’s getting at.
Okay then. Check out the best, worst, and WTF dressed of this year’s AMAs over here.

The American Music Awards happened and I don’t think anyone really cared that much, but here’s your outfit recap, just in case. Yeah, it’s a day late. Honestly, who really cares? We covered Katy Perry’s “is this offensive” Geisha performance, which was probably the most interesting thing of the whole night. So here’s the outfits, a touch late, but we can still have fun oooo-ing and aaaah-ing and WTF-ing. Which is what I’ll need your help with. I want you to pick the best, worst, and most WTF outfit of the night. Here we go!
