1. she just stated what every 12 year old knows these days, which is that we're very monitored by governments or commercial bodies who want to better target us as customers. every action you take on the internet is monitored and archived and that's not even a conspiracy theory, it's in every contract you sign or don't sign when you use any service on the web/cellphone etc.
2. she said nothing about grooming, in case you're deaf. she was referring specifically to women removing all trace of pubic hair from their vaginas, which in fact does make that area look like a 10 year old's vagina – make of it what you will.

to state the obvious, i don't know you and you might just be a lovely person.
however, your posts make me cringe. you're harsh – not in a humorous-witty-bloggy kinda way, you really offend and you make fun of things that just aren't funny. (i'm thinking for example of a post you wrote a few months ago making fun of someone's death).
but what gets to me the most is what you write about women. making fun of actresses and their weight, their sex lives…, and completely dismissing issues that as a writer on zelda lilly i'd expect you to at least think about (like the popularity of 10 year old vaginas on grown women). i mean, bashing women and their opinions isn't very open minded.

Evil Beet, you missed the boat on this.
First, Janeane was answering questions, so she didn't preach, as you've mistakenly implied. I would describe this as warm, open, and making herself touchingly vulnerable. I was charmed by her.
Second, she didn't talk about fiber optic cameras in computers watching her, she stated, accurately, that we live in a surveillance culture. Bank transactions, ebay purchases, email, websites, twitter, all are monitored and recorded in net archives. Consider how many stories you read about people being fired for the content on their Facebook page, or for emails sent from workplaces deemed inappropriate. That is a product of a surveillance culture.
Finally, as a pediatric nurse and the survivor of a violent childhood sexual assault, I think wanting women whose genitalia looks prepubescent, i.e. completely hairless, is pretty creepy. Intellectually I can accept that I'm a product of my era, which did not shave, and that body hair fashions change. But on a gut level, it seems mega creepy. Janeane was stating a similar discomfort, and she's not atypical for her generation in that.
I often like your column, especially when it is, as it more usually is, strong, women-positive, perceptive, and funny. This peice on Janeane was not those things. It came off as snippy, childish, misinformed, and sexist. I know you aren't those things, and am pretty sure that on re-examination you're going to find this bit a little embarrassing. When that moment comes, know you're usually a great advocate for women and usually a joyful, spunky, funny person. We all have crappy days.

I consider myself open-minded, but I just don't like Janeane Garofalo, and that is my explanation. I think she's over the top (and there are probably people that think the same of me, but that's the beauty of opinion) and her opinions are a little too hardcore and oddly enough, not open-minded enough, for my taste. She is the type of person that black is black, white is white, and there are no grey areas in between. I don't agree with that. And just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I automatically have to agree with other womens' opinions — especially when they're not in line with my own. I will refute their thoughts as I see fit, and in whatever manner I choose to deign appropriate, just as I ripped Janeane for her commentary, and you called me out on mine. It's a rarity that two people will have the exact same set of ideals, ideas and conceptuality of various topics that are hot in today's society.
I won't be getting into specifics of why I don't agree with a lot of what Janeane says — or the way she chooses to say it — because it's irrelevant; I don't agree because I don't agree, and that's anyone's right — yours included.
Hopefully that clears some of that up for you.
