Angelina Jolie Shocked That More Americans Don’t Want to Relive the Daniel Pearl Murder

According to Us Weekly (which, to be fair, kind of hates Angelina Jolie because she gives all her exclusives to People), Angelina’s really upset that A Mighty Heart didn’t do as well as she thought it would. The film has brought in a measly $9M at the box office, which is, like, even worse than a Lindsay Lohan flick.

“She poured her heart into the story and can’t believe people don’t understand how important it is,” says an inside source.

To get away from it all, Jolie and her family have retreated to a $13,818-a-week rental manor in France. Rough life.

Now to get on my soapbox for a minute: I don’t understand why people are making these movies. I don’t understand A Mighty Heart. I don’t understand United 93. And I don’t understand World Trade Center. I don’t understand why anyone would want to go see these movies or why the studios think they do. Yes, they are important stories. I know how important these stories are because they happened less than six years ago and I lived through them actually happening. I don’t need to pay $10 at a movie theater to be reminded of just how fucking depressed I was about all this shit the first time it happened. Which was, you know, six fucking years ago. I remember, trust me. If I’m paying to see a movie, it’s because I want to be removed from my reality. Americans see movies to escape. You don’t necessarily have to make me laugh, but do something that takes me away from the world in which I currently live. Don’t bombard me with the most devastatingly tragic aspects of my current existence. If that’s what I wanted, I’d go see a fucking therapist. Sheesh.

  • i very much agree. too soon to look back when you were there. heck my gramma wont watch WW2 movies for the same reason.

  • Angelina is extemely self-absorbed and in her demure way is really no different from the other dysfunctional stars. She just handles herself in a more positive way for the media, but seems to be an attention grabber in her own way. She uses her beauty to manipulate, but ultimately, she’s no different from Brit or Lindsey..just classier..Brad..beware..she’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing..should’ve stuck with the tried and true..Jen

  • I’m sure it’s a good movie and part of me wanted to see it, but for the same reasons (not wanting to go to that depressing heartbreaking place), I just couldn’t bring myself to go see it. When a day comes around when I’m already down and depressed, maybe I’ll rent it.

  • Exactly! This is why I refuse to see any of these movies. I remember seeing “The Sum of All Fears” a few years ago, and it fictionalized a terrorist attack. I walked out of the theatre bawling my eyes out, because it was still too soon – my whole family lives in NYC and luckily no one was killed on 9/11. Angelina is probably just mad because she won’t be recognized as being some critical darling for this film. Personally, I wouldn’t give my $10 to anyone trying to capitalize on our national pain.

  • I feel bad for Marianne Pearl on this one. I hope she knows it is just too soon for us to watch this…not that we don’t think it is important. My heart was breaking while watching this story unfold in real time. It feels like it happened yesterday, hence my reluctance to watch a recreation. I’m sure it is brilliant and I will watch it when I’m ready.
My heart goes out to Marianne Pearl and her child. They are sadly missing a wonderful man.

  • Not only that, yes it’s too soon and too depressing and too tragic but, and I mean this in no way to offensive but it’s not that interesting. Tragic, my heart breaks for her, it really does but is there a movie in that? Part of the importance of a movie is plot. When you know it, what’s the point. The subtle nuances? I’m good.

Maybe she’s more upset it’ll hurt her Oscar chances? Her complaining is a good way to put it back in people’s minds.

  • I agree with what others have written but I don’t think this movie would have much appeal even if 9/11 hadn’t happened. Granted, without 9/11, Daniel Pearl wouldn’t have been in Afghanistan but when a person is brutally murdered, it just doesn’t usually make for a good story on the big screen. The story would have been better served (and probably seen by more) if it had been a movie-of-the-week on NBC/ABC/CBS starring a lesser-known TV actress.

  • Come on people! It was the feel good film of the year!!!! Anyone that didn’t rush to the theatre to see this film should be declared an enemy of the state. When I plan my weekends, all I can think of is “What film based on marginally successfull journalists that were executed is premiering this weekend?”

  • You said everything that I couldn’t put into words. You are so right, and thank you for saying it.

  • It will probably win an academy award because so few people went to see it and it is about a very tragic and sobering religious and race hate war that seems to never end.

  • no shit i agree with diamondsal this thing will win an oscar and most people will wonder why i guess h-wood has its own agenda
