Anne Hathaway Did a Pretty Annoying Interview

Generally speaking, I’m a fan of Anne Hathaway. I love her look (because guys, she’s so pretty), her acting’s all right, and she seems like she’s not a complete tool like a lot of other actresses of her age group. She’s got her shit together, and that counts for a lot with me and whether or not I publicly eviscerate someone on, as some non-fans call it, my “shitty little blog.” Really though: generally, I like her (except for when she’s impersonating Katie Holmes, because that’s just annoying as hell), but this interview, and the accompanying photos … I might have had enough Anne Hathaway for at least the rest of the month. And I’m sure that’s probably OK, too. Here’s an excerpt from her interview with Glamour.

Anne on swearing off shopping for as long as I’m swearing off talking about her:

“I looked at my life when I was on my honeymoon, which was gorgeous, and I thought, I need nothing. I’m not buying myself a single thing for the rest of this year.”

Anne on fighting for the right to act:

“I like to fight for a job. You feel like you’ve emerged from the scrap, and you’re like, ‘OK, this one’s mine. Did it. Done.'”

Anne on how hard it is to be a gal:

“We get pressure to define ourselves as women by how wild we are: How many guys did you sleep with? How drunk did you get?”

Last, Anne on her best nights ever:

“When I think back to some of the most fun nights in my life, it was just me out dancing.”

That’s funny, though, because I can’t imagine that Anne is really all that good a dancer, personally speaking I mean, since she talked about how it is when she does things that she has to excel in (like her job), it makes her kind of seem like she’s all for doing something with full, flawless gusto and just won’t do it any other way, and if she’s not totally perfect in it? Well, then she doesn’t do it.

  • Okay, so the pictures are stupid, but what’s so bad about the interview? I also hate being made to feel like I can only have a good time by drinking and partying. If I’m not doing that every weekend then I don’t know how to have fun, apparently. Totally relate.

    • I think it’s the whole “My life is beautiful, I’m going to sacrifice shopping for a few months” thing. I know that’s, like, supposed to be an admirable quote or something, but there’s just something in it that makes me cringe a little bit.

      • Sarah, that comment totally hit me the same way. Generally, I admire a willfully anti-materialistic sentiment from someone at the top of the heap, but there’s something about the way she worded it. Maybe it’s the 3 month commitment, but it also seems somehow a little snobbish. I can’t put a finger on it, but I know what you mean.

Even so, she’s still one of my favorites.

  • Oooh thanks for reminding me about how much I love that movie. And on Anne H – I was a nerdy, wallflower tween when Princess Diaries came out, so no matter what she does I will always love her.

  • I have to say, I have never thought she was super gorgeous. There is just something about her face that is just “off” to me. In certain photographs, she can look really good. But a straight on picture of her face like the third one above shows what I’m talking about. By no means am I saying she is unattractive, and she does seem to have a lovely character. No one can deny that. But there is something about her face that is slightly odd.

    • I’m with you. I think her features (eyes and mouth, mostly) are almost too big. But I still find her attractive, and I think she’s super talented and I love her personality!

  • Hathaway is gorgeous. She blows Angelina Jolie away. Angelina looks like an evil muppet to me. Brad is a boring muppet.

  • i think she is super talented…sings, dances, acts…and is pretty with long hair..not so much with short hair…but she is annoying because she has obviously been performing for a long time and comes across like those precocious children who have been on stage who are always ‘ON’. you know what i mean? like always eyes bugged out, smiling, ready to talk. that’s annoying.
