Nicolas Cage to Explore ‘History of Swear Words’ for Netflix

Nicolas Cage is set to work blue for Netflix.

The Oscar winner will host a six-episode comedic docuseries called History of Swear Words. Each installment will examine the origins, usage and cultural impact of a specific curse: “fuck,” “shit,” “bitch,” “dick,” “pussy” and “damn.”

In case you’re wondering how in the name of Zeus’ butthole this show came to be, it comes from Funny or Die and Industrial Media’s B17 Entertainment. Bellamie Blackstone (I Love You, America, @midnight) will serve as showrunner and executive produce with Funny or Die’s Mike Farah, Joe Farrell, and Beth Belew and B17’s Brien Meagher and Rhett Bachner.

The 20-minute episodes will also feature a host of celebrity guests, among them Joel Kim Booster, DeRay Davis, Open Mike Eagle, Nikki Glaser, Patti Harrison, London Hughes, Jim Jefferies, Zainab Johnson, Nick Offerman, Sarah Silverman, Baron Vaughn, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. As host, Cage will presumably be able to assure his guests that they’re the shit.

Additionally, History of Swear Words will feature linguists, cognitive scientists and lexicographers who’ll be able to save the fuckin’ day in terms of explicating the history and cultural import of the featured swear words.
