‘Empire’ cast sign group letter asking for Jussie to come back

Jussie still has friends in his ‘Empire’ costars and it’s more than I ever expected him to have.

The cast, including Taraji and Terrence, sent a letter to Fox Entertainment last week saying that if the charges against Jussie were dropped, then it must mean he’s innocent and therefor should be allowed to return to ‘Empire’ in the fall for the new season.

The letter,  which was obtained and shared by Deadline.com, was dated April 19th and read: “He is innocent and no longer subject to legal uncertainty with the criminal charges against him having been dropped.”

“We are confident in his lawyer’s assurance that the case was dismissed because it would not have prevailed.”

“It’s clearer every day that the extreme political climate in our country has only made our system of justice and the court of public opinion more unjust,” they continue.

They say that while working with Smollett on five seasons of the show they have come to “truly know Jussie’s personal character.”

“He is kind. He is compassionate. He is honest and above all he is filled with integrity,” the letter says.

This season ended with Jussie character, Jamal Lyon, marrying his boyfriend in the first gay wedding featuring two black characters on network TV.  Which is great. But that’s not Jussie’s doing. So we shall see if Lee Daniels and Fox cave to cast mates or lean on the side of those still concerned he reported a terrible fake crime.
