Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Robin Williams gorgeous estate items coming to sotheby’s in October

Robin Williams and his wife Marsha amassed a large collection of things during their 21 year marriage from 1989 – 2010.  Incidentally, Marsha was not his wife in 2014 when Robin took his own life.

Now Sotheby’s is hosting a huge auction of some of their most prized items. The catalog is over 300 items and worth a look because it’s just really interesting items.  I’ve curated a few of my favorite to share.

Shepard Fairey
ARAB WOMAN
Estimate
70,000 — 90,000

Shepard Fairey is the one time street artist best known for his OBEY art and the famous Obama campaign poster. I think this will fetch well over est.

Banksy
HAPPY CHOPPERS
Estimate
400,000 — 600,000
Banksy is, of course, the most famous street artist of today. Robin and Marsha have several Banksy paintings up for auction.

[Harry Potter]
HOGWARTS SCHOOL ROBE WITH GRYFFINDOR HOUSE CREST WORN BY DANIEL RADCLIFFE IN HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE (2001)
Estimate
10,000 — 15,000
This Potter prop isn’t the only movie memorabilia available, but it’s the only one not from his own body of work!

Judy Kensley McKie
“MONKEY” ARMCHAIR
Estimate
20,000 — 30,000

I need this Monkey chair in my life immediately.  Though I think I’d never feel comfortable sitting back in it. God help whoever breaks those tails off.

Magdalena Abakanowicz
CAMINANDO (20 WALKING FIGURES)
Estimate
400,000 — 600,000

Art has always been in the eye of the beholder, but something about Robin purchasing 20 creepy human statues for his yard feels like a real glimpse into his mind frame.

Yoram Wolberger
RED INDIAN NO. 2 (BOWMAN)
Estimate
25,000 — 35,000

Yorem is known for his large scale statues that resemble the old plastic toys kids got in the 50’s. (think green army men)  There are 4 of these at auction. Can you imagine this yard? lol.

[Good Will Hunting]
ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR PAINTING, BY DIRECTOR GUS VAN SANT, FROM GOOD WILL HUNTING, INSCRIBED TO WILLIAMS
Estimate
1,000 — 1,500

This painting isn’t just an integral part of the film, it was painted by director Gus van Sant.  This is a pretty cool piece of hollywood history for $1500.

[Hook]
PROP DAGGER, IN LEATHER SHEATH
Estimate
300 — 500
And how can this dagger from Hook be estimated at just a few hundred dollars!?

[Mork and Mindy]
ROBIN WILLIAMS GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD, BEST TELEVISION ACTOR IN A COMEDY OR MUSICAL SERIES FOR MORK AND MINDY (1978)
Estimate
15,000 — 20,000

Lastly, there are just tons of various awards from everything from MTV popcorn, to grammy’s to Harvards Hasty Pudding award.
