Sarah Hyland Responds to anorexia claims

sarah-hyland-b29fedd2-515d-4ba8-abf0-ab791680ed93On Wednesday, Sarah Hyland penned a lengthy message regarding ongoing commentary about her weight.

“I’d like to address something that has not only been brought up on Twitter but has been HEAVILY discussed by all of you in my Instagram comments. That something is my weight,” the 26-year-old actress wrote on Wednesday. “I normally don’t comment on things like this because it draws attention to those trying to spread negativity but I’m here to explain a few things and spread love.”

Hyland revealed she’s been on bed rest the past few months, resulting in the loss of muscle mass.

“I haven’t had the greatest year. Maybe one day I’ll talk about it but for now, I’d like my privacy,” Hyland posted. “I will say that this year has brought a lot of changes and with that, physical changes.”

“My circumstances have put me in a place where I’m not in control of what my body looks like,” she added.

Though the “Modern Family” star did not specify her condition, she dismissed accusations of promoting eating disorders through her social shares – particularly a photo in which she posed in a T-shirt from boyfriend Dominic Sherwood’s clothing brand.

“I’ve been accused of promoting anorexia in, ironically enough, an anti bullying post. And I want young girls to know that’s NOT my intention. I posted a picture of my boyfriend’s apparel line in which part of the proceeds go to the anti-bullying alliance, and in return am bullied. Which made me laugh but then it dawned on me that young girls that are reading posts that are saying I’m promoting anorexia due to my weight,” Hyland shared. “While these comments don’t affect me, they may affect others.”

Hyland said that while she is working hard to maintain her weight by consuming protein, she is also on the steroid prednisone, which is typically used to treat inflammation.

“For those on prednisone I know what you’re going through and I commend you sticking it out as I have. My self confidence is not rendered from your comments,” Hyland noted.

“I am a 26 year old woman who goes through more than you could even imagine on a daily basis,” she continued. “But I work hard. I love hard. And I got to where I am because I am STRONG and didn’t give up. I am grateful for the life I live and you should be too. Don’t let other’s comments alter any part of you!”

Hyland previously opened up about her health troubles in 2015. She also had a kidney transplant three years prior after being diagnosed with kidney dysplasia, which can eventually result in organ malfunction.
