Set your hair dryers to feather, ladies, the CW has given a series order to its modern-day reimagining of the 1980s soap for next season.
The new version follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. The series “will focus on Fallon Carrington (Elizabeth Gillies), the daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington, and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal (Nathalie Kelley), a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.”
The show — from executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl) — is a bit of a return to classic form for the network, which initially was best known for its contemporary ensemble soaps like Gossip Girl, 90210, and Melrose Place.
There are no photos or trailer yet (next week there almost certainly will be), but the pilot also stars Grant Show (Melrose Place), James Mackay (The Leftovers), Alan Dale (The O.C.), Sam Adegoke (Murder in the First), Robert Christopher Riley (Hit the Floor), and Rafael de la Fuente (Empire).
