TV Land has ordered a pilot for Heathers, a dark comedy series based on the cult 1988 film. Leslye Headland is attached to direct, and the pilot is expected to shoot later this fall.
The show will be set in the present day, as our heroine deals with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers. It’s going to be done as an anthology in that each season will deal with a new group of characters and a new story line.
A number of attempts have been made to get the classic mean girls flick made into a series, but this is the first to get a pilot green lit. Fingers crossed. I mean it is TVLand, but hopefully they’re taking the project seriously.
Filming starts in fall.
