Two major institutions/museums opened on this day in history. In 1846 the most famous art museum in the world opened to much titillation. The Louvre in Paris, France has expanded in many ways, but it is still considered unrivaled in the art world.
Also, in 1793 the great Smithsonian Institute opened in Washington DC. It houses so many areas of interest we couldn’t name them all. Air and Space, Politics, sculpture and many more. It’s a MUST see.
And in 1977, 24-year-old postal employee David Berkowitz is arrested and charged with being the “Son of Sam,” the serial killer who terrorized New York City for more than a year
And lastly, in 1981, Pete Rose of the Philadelphia Phillies gets the 3,631st hit of his baseball career, breaking Stan Musial’s record for most hits by a National Leaguer.
