Well, things are moving rather quickly between John “Cougar” Mellencamp and Christine Brinkley. They only began dating a few months ago, just after John got out of a four year relationship with Meg Ryan, and she’s already thinking of having him put a ring on it. She’s trying to be patient, though, since she realizes it’s early days and she doesn’t want to jinx anything just yet.
Here’s a tidbit from her interview on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM show, via US Weekly:
“I’ll tell you what I’m leery of, I’m leery of discussing my relationship because I don’t want to jinx it,” Brinkley said when asked point-blank if she’ll marry Mellencamp. “I feel like I was so dragged through the press, [I don’t want that again].”
Brinkley, who first stepped out with Mellencamp in September, went through a messy and bitter divorce from her fourth husband, Peter Cook, in 2008. In 2012, the blonde broke down during a Today show interview, explaining that her ex tried to sabotage her character and that “every time I have any joy or any kind of success in anything, he has to try to destroy it.”
For now, her relationship with Mellencamp, is budding. But Brinkely does want the musician to quit one bad habit.
“He has to [stop smoking],” she agreed with longtime friend Stern. “He has to stop smoking and the amazing thing about the body is it will heal…even after all those years of abuse.”
Damn, maybe homegirl needs to hang up the marriage hat, anyway. She’s already been through four divorces, so does she really need another? At the end of the day, having a piece of paper stating their commitment isn’t going to make the relationship last if it wasn’t going to, anyway, so maybe skip the ceremony.
As for the smoking thing, I agree everyone should stop if they possibly can (or never start to begin with), but let’s not pretend there’s a way to reverse the damage you’ve done to your body by years of heavy chainsmoking. Sure, he can prevent future damage, but the body can’t “heal” tar being pumped into your lungs for several decades, so she needs to calm down with the medical advice there.
Maybe she just wants a man around her constantly doting her with attention.

She is crazy if she gets married again, after divorcing four times. He failed at marriage three times. Meg Ryan was smart enough never to marry him amd dumped him this spring.
Christie Brinkley clearly is desperate for attention, from the media and the public. She is not gonna get that from Mellencamp because he only cares about himself. Hes not gonna quit smoking for her and he is not going to put up with her ho-ing herself to the media like this.
