Incredibly sad news to report, as it was revealed yesterday that Jim Carrey‘s 28-year-old ex-girlfriend Cathriona White, an Irish makeup artist, has committed suicide. She met Carrey back in 2012 and they dated for a while before breaking off their relationship. However, they got back together in May 2015 and had been doing well until a few days ago, when they broke up. Cathriona apparently mentioned her breakup with Carrey in her suicide note, and left this cryptic tweet on the day she passed away from what’s believed to be a pill overdose.

Carrey issued a statement about Cathriona’s death on Tuesday:
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightening bolt.”
This is sad all around – hopefully Carrey isn’t too haunted by this (though how could he not be?). Hopefully Cathriona has found peace, and her family can, too.
