Jerry Seinfeld thinks he’s autistic

I can never tell whether Jerry Seinfeld is being sincere or when he’s doing his “comedy” thing, but basically in a segment with Brian Williams for his show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, he revealed that he believes he might actually fall somewhere on the autism spectrum (via US Weekly).

“I think, on a very drawn out scale, I think I’m on the spectrum,” the sitcom creator revealed.

“What are the markers?” an intrigued Williams asked.

“You know, never paying attention to the right things,” said Seinfeld. “Basic social engagement is really a struggle. I’m very literal. When people talk to me and they use expressions, sometimes I don’t know what they’re saying.”

Huh. I guess anything is possible. However, if he’s functioned this long and become rather successful with no real struggle, it’s probably not anything to worry about. I dunno, I worry that sometimes we live in a society that just wants to diagnose us all the time, or have us diagnose ourselves with any number of disorders. Feeling restless? You have restless leg syndrome! Getting distracted? ADD! I’m not saying those disorders don’t exist and aren’t serious, but you have to put things in context. Most of us are just fine. We’re just humans and life is complicated. Jeez.

  • when he has performed where I live and stayed at the hotel the servers I know said he’s just an arrogant ass.

  • Where exactly does SmugAhole fit on the Autism spectrum? Self diagnosing NEVER goes wrong! Just like self-medicating!

  • Sounds more like someone that just feels what you say or do is not important to him, so he just plain ignores you.

  • I know autism differs from one person to the next..but come on Mr. Seinfeld! You are 60 years old and likely have $60 million in your bank account. IF you really think you are on the spectrum go and find a doctor–let him diagnose you. As ChattyKathy said “self diagnosing NEVER goes wrong” It is too easy for people today who are rude or anti social to claim to be on the spectrum when they are just rude or anti social. I have a son with autism and I hate the stupid disorder more than anyone will ever know so for someone like Mr. Seinfeld to do this just makes me want to cry. Hey, now, if he wants to donate money to the cause of what to do with adult with autism who have no place to go…that would be amazing!!!!
