Doctor Who‘s been on for 12 years, but it’s recently blown up, especially with American audiences. It’s the top rated show on BBC America. And it’s time for a new Doctor. I don’t watch the show, but apparently the thing is to get new ones a lot. Because…science? Time travel? I don’t know.
Meet the new Doctor, Scottish actor Peter Capaldi. From USA Today:
The Scottish actor was named the new star of the British sci-fi franchise Doctor Who on Sunday during a live broadcast on BBC America. He will replace the departing Matt Smith, whose time in the time-traveling police box the TARDIS ends later this year.
“It’s so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer,” said Capaldi, a lifelong fan of the show. “I haven’t played Doctor Who since I was 9 on the playground.”
Capaldi, 55, becomes the 12th man to play the Doctor since the cult show debuted in 1963 with star William Hartnell and the fourth Time Lord since executive producer Russell T Davies rebooted Doctor Who in 2005, following Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Smith.

I was just about to post that. It’s not like it’s super unknown knowledge. The press have been talking about the 50th anniversary episode for MONTHS.
Although, maybe just confused facts of years/doctors.
My favorite doctor has to be Tom Baker (the 4th doctor). I do agree with everyone else. The show has been on a lot longer than 12 years. Obviously Catherine is just too lazy to research the facts. Definately insulting
David Tennant is by far my favorite.. I mean I was still getting used to Matt Smith this season. Also It should be noted that it has been going on 50 years and that this will presumably be the LAST doctor which is why its such a big deal. People from galifrey can only regenerate 12 times.. though maybe when this doctor is through the writers will find a way to make him continue regenerating.. such a great show.
I don’t understand why the focus seems to be on this guy beig Scottish. David tenant is Scottish. I guess this guy will probably be keeping his accent, maybe that’s why we’re constantly being reminded of his nationality.
