Barney The Dinosaur Saved Demi Lovato’s Life

We all know by now that Demi Lovato has dealt with some serious depression, addiction and self-harm issues in her life, but did you know she was suicidal as a 7-year-old? Holy shit. Apparently it was around the time she booked her gig on Barney, which, incidentally, she feels saved her life.

From Cosmopolitan:

“At the time, I was just so grateful to be on TV, but I was also really struggling. Looking back, there was a connection, probably between any kid who’s ever sang that song to Barney, a little place in a child’s heart, a void, that could be filled. And maybe Barney fills it.

“Even before Barney, I was suicidal. I was 7. With Barney, I guess subliminally, I did have a relationship with this figure that was saving my life in a way… I’ve talked about being bullied and the years of being a teenager, but I went through things when I was younger that I’ve never talked about that probably caused me to turn out the way I ended up turning out.”

I was a bit old for Barney, really, but I have watched a fair bit of it because I did some babysitting and because frankly, I liked kids’ TV. WHO CARES? I won’t be judged! In any case, I don’t really remember Demi, but thank God she got this job if that’s how badly she was feeling.
Still, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: I’m really glad Demi has been so open about her struggles and wants to be a help and an inspiration to others in the same position, but I also think she has a lot more to her and this is overshadowing her actual talent and what she’s in the business for, you know? I feel bad for saying that, actually, but it’s the truth.

  • It’ll make me sound like a b!tch, but I’m getting bored. I’m sure she has something else to talk about?

    • Actually if you take away her “problems” she is an absolute bore. Even with her problems she is a cure for insomnia. I can’t believe Simon kept her on as a “judge” of X how does she rate as a judge of talent
