Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Are the Muppets Anti-American?

Oh, good grief.

I admit I haven’t seen the newest Muppets movie, so I can’t say for sure whether I think the Muppets themselves are a bunch of anti-capitalist pinko Commies. But apparently, the movie’s central villain—an oil baron—is someone called “Tex Richman.” Which is a great name for a villainous oil baron! That’s cute! C’mon!

And anyway, there’s a longstanding legacy of the villain being some devious business magnate. Maybe the villain is obsessed with taking over a building; maybe he’s trying to forge his name onto a document so he can secure the town’s water rights. That’s just good, clean melodrama! There is nothing more American than melodrama, after all.

But Dan Gainor of watchdog group Media Research Center has a different take:

This is what they’re teaching our kids. You wonder why we’ve got a bunch of Occupy Wall Street people walking around all around the country—they’ve been indoctrinated, literally, for years by this kind of stuff. Whether it was Captain Planet or Nickelodeon’s Big Green Help, or The Day After Tomorrow, the Al Gore-influenced movie, all of that is what they’re teaching, is that corporations is bad, the oil industry is bad, and ultimately what they’re telling kids is what they told you in the movie The Matrix: that mankind is a virus on poor old mother Earth.

Now, I realize the issue of climate change is kind of a touchy subject at Thanksgiving dinner, but I’m startled anyway. Is Mr. Gainor, uh, pro-pollution? Why is he so upset by Big Green Help? “Oooh, I just hate recycling!”

Let’s get real, FOX Business: was it a slow news cycle? (Or do these talking heads actually have a point? String me up in the comments!)

  • You’ve got to be kidding!!!! Indoctrination is real alright, but it works the OTHER way around. This so called “expert” guy has an agenda and it is MISINFORMATION. to suggest occupy is only in existence because of sesame street and the likes is ridicules and offensive – its a civil rights movement and it’s presence is very needed. This guy is a pretentious, arrogant, patronizing jack-off. PLEASE WAKE UP EVERYBODY

  • I agree with this first comment, what the hell is he talking about?!? If I had a child I would like them to know EXACTLY all the things he has listed. As for occupy wallstreet, we NEED a revolution in America and it’s about time one started. In fact, this gives me hope for my generation as we’re trying to bring about the change instead of sitting around hoping it’ll happen! and what has occupy wallstreet done? allegedly made officers cause a pregnant (non violent, looking to exit the crowd)protestor to miscarry her child? let the poor widdle police screw themselves over when someone took a photo of them becoming violent with peaceful photos? yeah, whatever fox news cut this “red fear” crap out

  • They have no problem indoctrinating children into homophobia, anti-choice, Christian monotheism and social Darwinism. I guess that is just “normal”. These people are so over the friggin top hysterical. He’s talking about children, then breaks into a list of “liberal” movies including one called “There Will Be Blood”. WTF? Doesn’t sound to me like a movie I’d take a kid to. They have to start squealing and shrieking over anything that has a whiff of liberal, otherwise they would have nothing to talk about.

  • *sigh*

The article in question quoted another article which quoted a Crappo (Huffdump; I’m not gonna type it) attack piece on Fox News. (It is irony that the Fox item in question was “follow the money”, but I digress.)

At the heart of the matter _IS_ truth though. Media, universities, and Hollywood have an extreme leftist agenda. They do.

And they are screaming to teach us a large number of wild lies. This isn’t the venue for political statements, and you really should stick to the topic-at-hand.

The fact is, the majority of people blabbering about “polushun” in oil have _CAUSED_ more misery than the oil companies have.

Are they making money? Yes. But they also LOST money for 20 years. Not a tax dodge; lost money. I know because I was an investor, and worked in the oil industry in Louisiana and Texas.

The occupy movement is a key factor in establishing a case for liberal indoctrination. Exactly what are they protesting?

That they didn’t get enough free shit? That they didn’t get enough handouts? That they like living in crap? Free sex and the failed movement of the 60’s?

Who are _THEY_ to demand free shit? (Which comes at a VERY high price as the guvment (on all sides) wastes 75% of what it is given. I work in government. The amount of waste TOPS what the “rich people” supposedly are taking FROM them. (Which is crap. They take the risks, they should get the reward. If the occupiers don’t like it; get a job.))

The Media Research Center (which is where the original item came from) is a very conservative Christian group. They look at media bias (which is like hitting a chicken with a bat in a commercial chicken house). Yes, they say some off the wall things.

And it is a liberalist _LIE_ that one has to be unconditionally tolerant of _ALL_ (read what they want) things to be “enlightened”. That is, unless you have money, are a white woman, apparently, have some sort of religion, and AREN’T a liberal. It is comical that ‘ol Al Gore preaches about the Global Warming lie and pays over $10k for his electricity bill for his home. They’ve changed it to “Climate Change” now, so they can try for the free grants forever. They’ve already lied several times to cover up the data, so that isn’t such a good liberal topic any longer.

Finally, I double-dog dare you to live in a world without scary-scary oil or petrochemicals. I know a good bit about energy production and electricity in general (that’s what my degree was in all those years ago). None of the alternatives work, and a life without plastics would be … comical. You certainly wouldn’t have lights or a blog or a computer or the clothes you wear without it.

Nor would you be able to afford anything because transport costs, by horse drawn wagon (which is very cruel btw in the amounts we’re talking about) or perhaps steam locomotive, would be too high. Aaaand the railroad barons would show up again. Not that you would have much anyway.

I’m not saying this guy doesn’t have a few screws loose, but the liberalist agenda is a blind, screaming, angry child and even a wacko makes some salient points.

Does this mean that I’m an evil-evil conservative and watch Fox news like some kind of brain-dead slave? LOL no. I’m not. I happen to be a hybrid centerist that considers each issue.

I’m NOT a socialists, as all socialism leads to slavery and death eventually. I could go into how it works, but this, again, isn’t the venue. I suggest reading, thinking, and reflection outside the universities’ tailored socialist agenda. The Soviet Union chose American colleges as an invasion route in the ’50’s for a reason. They won that one.

The funny thing is … under a Communist system (which the occupy unit is pushing), all the occupiers would be put to death or imprisoned in Gulags.

    • yeah omfg AAAAAAAALLLLL socialism is bad. I mean, free healthcare and free education? Equality? No! You’ll end in a gulag! Puh-lease.

  • You should consider taking an economics class before making such a weak attempt at trying to be sarcastic in stating that socialism is not bad. Socialism is for free-loading slackers who want everything handed to them without having to earn it, and then proceed to whine about how unfair life is. Get over your utopian idealistic view of the world around you or maybe consider moving to Sweden.
