OK, I’m going to warn you – this clip is actually absolutely hilarious. I need to get a hold of this stuff for parties. Do you know how funny that’d be? Ugh. I’m dying over here.
Anyway, the allegedly not-so-funny part of the clip was when NPH claimed that he’s “never sounded more like a tranny in [his] life” after taking a hit of some gas that made his voice about forty shades deeper, but what’s the deal according to you guys: offensive or not? Was Neil Patrick Harris’s use of the word “tranny” in this context as offensive to you as others felt it was? Neil later apologized via Twitter saying:
“Truly sorry for saying the word ‘tranny’ on Live this week. Twice! Should have been more thoughtful. Didn’t at all mean to offend.”
Thoughts? Could it have been worse? Is it different coming from someone so damned lovable and sweet? Like, is it akin to a cute and cuddly puppy wearing a bonnet and a diaper calling your mother a motherf*cking c*nt and you can’t really take it all that seriously?
How is it offensive? This is bringing PC to a whole new level of absurd.

Of course tranny is offensive. It’s like him using “nigger”, or “faggot”. Can you imagine anyone saying “nigger” is just an expression and nobody should get offended and that it’s bringing PC to a new level of absurd? It’s really easy to say it’s absurd or stupid for people to get angry about it when the word hasn’t been used towards you as a term of abuse or mockery. It’s hate speech, and as a gay man himself he should understand how hurtful it is to have your sexuality or gender constantly mocked, ridiculised and demeaned.
mireee is part of the problem in America of people trying to make trannies “normal” and accepted. In reality, trannies are not men or women, but only “former” men and women who are unclassifiable. In my opinion, you are what you are born. I may not be rightwing Christian, but I try to be as openmindedly Christian as I can, and trannies are just a insult to whatever God you believe in.

if you’re not trans* and you haven’t had this slur thrown at you then i really don’t think it’s up to you to decide whether or not it’s offensive. that’s ignorance. i don’t understand how people can think they’re so forward thinking and be anti-use of the word “f*ggot” but just toss “tr*nny” around. really? how is one slur okay but the other isn’t? i’m sure he didn’t mean to use it offensively but words still hurt and this being thrown around so casually speaks to a larger problem. when trans* teenagers are still being lit on fire and dismembered in our country in 2011 simply for being trans* we can’t afford to legitimize slurs just because we personally can’t understand from our cisgender points of views why it’s offensive.
