Quotables: Matt Damon Gives Psychic Advice

“I think a large part of that space is occupied by pretenders, which is not to say there aren’t people out there who are genuinely touched in some way …
Had I found a good one I would have. What I was worried about was that it was just going to take me down this rabbit hole of charlatans.

Matt Damon on filming his latest movie, Hereafter, while researching the psychic world as fodder for his role in the flick.

Have you guys ever been to a psychic?  The only one I’ve gone to was down in New Orleans, but I went to the same guy three times in a five-year period. Without having anything or anyone to compare him to, this guy was good. He knew, somehow, things about me that even some of my closest friends didn’t. He told me a very specific chain of events that would occur, and on each and every big milestone that I’ve experienced since I made the pilgrimage to visit him, he was right.  For real, guys.  Like Matt Damon, I’m pretty skeptical about anyone who claims to read cards and have gold teeth (which is probably the reason for my general disgust at and  mistrust of Ke$ha), but this guy was spot on.

Have you guys ever had any eerie predictions or stories told to you by fortune tellers or psychics?

  • Years ago – I think I must’ve been about 16 – I was travelling with some friends from Norway to Denmark by ferry. We went up to the restaurant and bar area and somehow we ended up talking to this robust, middle aged – rather drunk – Norwegian woman who convinced us she was one of the psychics starring on a famous Norwegian “reality” show.
When she offered to read our hands, naturally there were a lot of volunteers, myself included. She then went on to read our hands, one by one and she surprised us by offering everything from precise medical information about various relatives to relationships and whatsoever.
All of us were positively gobsmacked.
One thing was off though – she said that I’d been adopted, which I haven’t (although I couldn’t help but give my parents the third degree, when I returned home).
All the other things she said was spot on though – and her being able to tell one of my friends that her younger brother had a medical condition and which one it was …
    One couldn’t help but wonder!

  • I live in New Orleans and have always wanted to try out a psychic. Can you tell me who you went to? Someone in Jackson Square or did you go to a shop of some sort? I’d love to know. Although, I’ll be honest, I’ve always feared going to a psychic and learning of some tragedy the future holds for me.

    • Oh you HAVE to go to this guy. I don’t even know his name, but he’s the male palm reader at Marie Laveau’s House of Voodoo on Bourbon. He’s usually there in the afternoons – there’s a woman that does it in the AM, but I’ve never been to her. HE IS AMAZING. If you go, I want to hear all about it.

  • Here in NE Louisiana, there is an old blind man in a nursing home; he has become known around here for his accuracy. He has not been wrong yet. If someone sits near him for a little while (you don’t have to touch him or even speak out loud), he can tell you things about yourself. He has no family and I’d like to go visit him; a woman who works there in the nursing home said that he told her the two of them would be great friends in the afterlife, but that she would be dying first–within the next 3 months. I thought the woman would be scared or horrified, but instead she went completely the other way! She has tied up all the loose ends of her life, contacted old friends, said goodbye to all her nearest and dearest, and her new philosophy is that each and every day, for the time she has remaining, she will do at least one good thing for a stranger. Amazing, right?
