Unfortunately, my prediction that Lil Wayne would never actually wind up in jail was wrong and he began serving his sentence on March 10th. Wayne’s serving his prison time in New York (Rikers Island! Just like they talk about in rap songs and on Law & Order!), and has been warned by the guards not to be open about his fame and flat-out banned from signing autographs.
While this may seem like these restrictions were put in place to keep Wayne in check. “Lil Wayne is not a celebrity in here,” a rep from the Correction Officer’s Benevolent Association told TMZ. Damn. Kicking the man when he’s down.

Wow. I understand that Lil Wayne is a talented entertainer, but I am continually amazed that people actually think that this alone should keep him out of jail. He pled guilty to the weapons charge. It would be one thing if people were to argue that the law he broke shouldn’t exist (and thus no one should be incarcerated for such an infraction), or even that he’s innocent and only pled guilty because he didn’t think he could win the case. But to say completely seriously that he should be exempt from the law *because he’s a good rapper*? Are you guys kidding me?? If I hadn’t seen it so many times I honestly would not believe anyone could make that argument in earnest.

i love to shit on molls as much as the next person, but i don’t think she’s really saying he shouldn’t be in jail here.
before we get all high and mighty and “he gets what he deserves, throw him in jail” lets remember that the was charged with. “attempted weapon possession”..attempted possession…of a gun that was registered to his manager. he was in close proximity to a legally registered firearm. big fucking deal. i feel like people freaking out about showing him sympathy need to settle down just a touch.
