Adam Lambert went on Ellen today to discuss the now-famous crotch-to-face action in his performance at the American Music Awards and boy did he backpedal.
First, Ellen’s show was probably the best choice for him to go on to publicly discuss his performance because she’s known for being nice to celebrities, is clearly as gay-friendly as it gets, and I think she’d generally support him to stand by his actions so that everyone can stop acting so shocked that two men lamely acted out a blow job on stage.
This is no Janet Jackson boob-flash incident. There was no skin shown. People are just freaking out about the whole thing because Adam Lambert is gay as a rainbow and he was on American Idol. If Miley Cyrus can pole dance without having to explain herself publicly and in such a humbled manner, then why is Adam Lambert sounding so regretful?
I don’t get why you don’t think this is a big deal. I couldn’t give a flying f*** whether he’s gay or not, but I still think it was completely inappropriate. Just like it would be if he had shoved a woman’s face in his crotch or if a woman had shoved a man’s face in her crotch. It’s just not acceptable in a nationally televised performance. He shouldn’t get a free pass because it’s guy-on-guy and that’s oh-so-edgy.
I wouldn’t mind it if it were at a concert. People there would have been a more mature audience. However this was a TV awards show, and borderline-violent simulated sex shouldn’t have been a part of it. I get how this is a matter of stifling gay expression for some people, but it isn’t at all for me. It’s a matter of taste.
I’m just wondering but, would you be as offended if it were during the MTV VMA’s? Or not because you think it would be a more “mature” audience? I am jsut asking because that has been the scene for many other “racy” performances, 2 including Madonna. DO you think it is unacceptable mainly because of the content or where/when the content was shown? I don’t think a concert would be a more mature audience at all! People bring their little kids to Britney concerts where she gyrates and basically simulates sex, the same types of things Lambert did. I don’t think what he did is any worse than what many female stars and some male performers have been doing for years, I think people just took more notice/offense because it was guy/guy and it made them notice. I think we are too used to seeing guys and girls do raunchy things on stage and maybe even a little jaded towards girl/girl that we don’t see it as being on the same level as what he did.
I think people are offended because he was on American Idiot, oops, I mean Idol and they are supposed to be America’s sweethearts. They are not supposed to break out of the conformist boxes they are put in. Just out of curiosity what time was his performance aired? If it was past 9pm kids should been in bed or getting ready. It was a school night.
It doesn’t matter if it was 9 o’clock or 10 o’clock or 13 o’clock. People aren’t supposed to be giving blow jobs, simulated or otherwise, on network t.v. And if you don’t understand that you are an idiot. Period.
Maybe you should take it up with the FCC because as far as I know nothing he did violated any FCC rules/regulations. ABC also only got 1500 complaints about a show watched by what? 15 million! That is nothing. Sadly they caved to those 1500 and canceled him form numerous events because they are “afraid” he may violate FCC stuff in the FUTURE, not because he did. And yes, the time something happens does make a difference in what is “acceptable” to show.
It’s a matter of taste? If it were a matter of taste, not a single fucking person would go see him in concert.
I agree with Angelfish. A nationally televised awards show is not the place for simulated oral sex. The fact that it was two men is completely irrelevant. If I were squeamish about “teh gay” I would have a problem with the kiss too, and I don’t. It seems to me that he used poor judgment and then tried to distract from that by screaming discrimination. I hope his statements on “Ellen” were sincere. He is talented and I hope he will enjoy a long, successful career.I don’t think he should have to “Play it straight” but he does need to “Play it smart.”
It amazes me that such self-professed open-minded folks can be so closed-minded about the opinion of others. I don’t want to see anybody simulating sex on network tv. Male or female. I couldn’t care less that he is gay and was on American Idol. You really have to learn to be more tolerant.

I think at one point or another most modern performers simulate sex in some way. I just find it humerous that so many people had a problem with it being shown at 11:00pm, and it was bleeped out from the west coast airing, but they keep showing clips of it on prime time tv! wtf! its like ‘if you didn’t see it then and get pissed, here it is for your enjoyment!’ Its so stupid.

“Artists” who engage in sexually charged behavior on stage do so to cover up a lack of talent and it offends me that Adam Lambert thinks we’re all so stupid that we would not pick up on that. I think ppl overreact everyday to gay PDA… Personally I think it’s because straight ppl have insecurities they aren’t willing to own up to…. And the best way to deal with it and the most common way is to simply bash on other ppl… And who better to pick at then someone with a completly different lifestyle….
