What Would You Get if Alice Cooper and Joan Jett Had a Baby? Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert has obviously decided that his angle for securing water cooler conversation status is to be “scandalous.”  Listen, I don’t care if Adam wants to parade around stage, forcing men’s mouths to his crotch or giving some chick a simulated fisting on live television.  I survived Madonna’s Sex book — remember?

You know what I do find offensive?  Adam Lambert singing outside the confines of a recording studio that can control the racket that comes out of his mouth.  Seriously, props to Adam for singing live and not Britneying it at the American Music Awards last night, but in the immortal words of my favorite American Idol judge, “That was a little pitchy for me, man.”

  • The record label stripped him of his raw talent and came out with for your entertainment.. he has such an amazing voice but it’s covered by synthesizers and flashing lights. I want the old adam back!

  • I am a bit older and remember the sensastion that was Sam Harris (look up Star Search) – a bright rising star that actually never was. Adam Lambert will be forgotten just as quickly as he was “discovered”. Never liked his cackling… never will. Don’t care if he is gay… just that he has no talent.

    • You are absolutely right, Bob. That first operatic note and I thought, “Holy crap, it’s Sam Harris!” :D (I actually had Sam Harris’s album; I had such a jr. high crush on him).

    • True, true true!! I thought Sam Harris would be a superstar. I saw one of his albums in a junk store the other day for 50 cents and laughed.

  • i’m with you on this one, wendie. sadly, he actually can sing (look up the song he did from “brigadoon” on youtube). the suits have just bastardized him. what really would have been “shock value” would have been to come out and SING a well written song, in key with power and nuance.

a little more barbra…a little less circus please!

  • Well written Wendie. I agree 100%.

It was pitchy. I know he can sing live and move around on stage and keep his vocals together. He’s no stranger to being in musicals, etc. His vocal was so totally off. So he came across as the new kid trying too hard to not just fit in but rule the school. And he failed. It was ridiculous. Even the crowd wasn’t That impressed at the end. Too much hype and couldn’t deliver.

People would have been blown away by a good song with a strong vocal performance and none of the theatrics. He made himself more about Style than Substance. That works for some, but it didn’t work for him on this performance.

    • “…he came across as the new kid trying too hard to not just fit in but rule the school. And he failed.”

      NAILED IT!!!!!!!

  • I am with you, Wendie. Didn’t really care one way or another about the over the top staging (and kind of understand why he did it) but the problem for me was that HE DIDN’T SOUND GOOD. I think he needs another televised gig soon – where he really knocks it out of the park vocally – to recover from this.

  • Who you kidding Lambert? You are a scared little boy up there, going through the motions, trying to be interesting. Dollar short and about 2 years too late.

  • My favorite part is when he fell down and did a great tumble roll;thank god he wasn’t lipsynching there. He is what he is; a campy glam singer… look at all the youtube stuff he had prior to Idol… this is all we are gonna get…much to Idol’s chagrin; America got it right, he’s doesn’t have IT.

  • It’s like a really bad hyper-sexualized Andrew Lloyd Webber song; like watching someone from community theater suddenly make it big.

  • I’ve never liked Adam Lambert – not even on American Idol. But, that…….that was APPALLING. He is a seriously disgusting man.

  • I tend to think people who require so many theatrics are masking a lack of talent. Same thing happened with Adam on Idol.
Examples from this show are numerous but I’ll limit myself. Gaga needed a flaming piano, Whitney needed nothing. Lambert needed whatever the hell that was, Green Day needed nothing.

Not saying that I didn’t like Lambert’s performance. I liked it for the spectacle it was intended to be. As music? Not so much.

  • Not to sound mean…okay, maybe I’m sounding a little mean, but that shit stain doesn’t belong in the same title as Alice Cooper and Joan Jett. So many people have said how great he is, but he’ll be forgotten in a few years, hopefully months.

  • um yeah that was so uncomfortable to watch. we get it. you’re gay and you want to push the envelope and bash stereotypes… but I mean that was just weird. I used to watch these kind of shows with my parents- (it was the few times they let me stay up late…)- you know, it was a family kind of thing- making stupid TV events seem important and all lol… anyways back to my point… seriously… the AMAs?! WTF?! and that song was TERRIBLE. he will be gone in no time. shock factor only goes so far.

  • The song was awful, the tacky outfits/dancing was awful, the ten pounds of pancake on his face was awful…egads, what the hell was that? This looked like a parody.

  • I agree with you Wends, as usual.

I think the kid can sing, and i don’t care that he’s gay, but this is absolutely over the top. Why do we have to see these kind of sexual shit? fine, you’re gay, we get it, and it’s ok, but have some respect for the rest of us that are not gay, and are not interested in seeing a man pushing another man’s head towards his crotch. I didn’t make it through the whole thing, the start was more than enough for me… Not my cup of tea at all.

  • Adam Lambert is a phenomenal singer and entertainer who had a bad night at the AMA’s. He’s becoming the world-wide superstar he was meant to be as we speak. He’s going to be iconic as a glam rock/pop singer/performer because he is that talented.

People who are gay have had to watch women pop stars put men’s faces in their crotch’s as they push the envelope for years. The world doesn’t revolve around heterosexuals.

As Adam says, “No matter what is your age, the color of your skin, or who you sleep with, we can all party together.”
