A publicist from Women’s Wear Daily sent me a very serious and earnest email today alerting me to the new Asprey jewelry collection with pieces that are designed by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. All the pieces, including a baby spoon that costs $525, have a snake motif.
And I’m sitting here in my living room looking at the pictures of this hellacious, hideous collection and all I can think is this: “The people at Asprey — one of the most world-renowned purveyors of fine jewelry — really thought it would be a good idea for the two most infamous cheaters to hook up on a movie set and ditch their spouses since Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton (ironically, against the backdrop of Cleopatra … asp anyone?), to design a line of jewelry centered around snakes? Snakes? Snakes.

I think most of the items are very pretty, plus they are being sold to aid children of conflict and there a millions of them, expensive items for people who can afford them – but ugly no, not so much.

Totally cheap looking and having a snake themed baby spoon is creepy. Though I may be biased since I think snake themed jewelry is way overdone and a cop out design idea. Brad has also been on my bad/lame list ever since he fancied himself an architect and helped “design” a Dubai hotel. Ugh, so over them.

And since so many of you are commenting on Brad & Angelina’s character, need I remind you that Brad spent monts in Louisiana assisting after hurricane Katrina and Angelina has brought global awareness to poverty in third-world countries for years now. So all you self-righteous people who are so Puritanical and quick to judge…perhaps you should open your minds a wee bit and see the biger picture and realize that this couple has done wonderful feats to help people and improve their lives.

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that all proceeds go to a charity helping children. Also, I kinda disagree with all these bad snake connotations…but that’s probably because my religious affiliations are more Eastern, where snakes don’t represent that which tempted and led to the fall of man.
Basically I’m saying that considering this is for a good cause–without malicious/prideful/indulgent intentions–can we at least mention the fact that they’re trying to help others before bashing them for things that happened ages ago?
It is difficult to see how this will help anyone when none of this crap sells.
*shrug* They’re actors, not designers. So why are they “designing”? Because they’re Brangelina and whatever they touch gets rampant publicity and turns to gold–which is probably going to help this charity out more than if they were gorgeous pieces that nobody has heard about. My point was that at least they’re trying. And it certainly isn’t going to help if nobody acknowledges the cause.
I do agree they don’t look so great…but I also think whoever took these photos/designed the ad did a crappy job.
