Suri Cruise: 3 Going on 30

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Suri Cruise Drinking Starbuck's Coffee

The Cruise clan headed out for a coffee in Boston last weekend and ended up with a gaggle of people following them around the streets. The internet is up in arms, not about a large group of pedestrians stalking a family (blame it on Xenu-phobia) but about the fact that in a few pictures, Suri is seen sipping from a Starbuck’s cup.

I’m not gonna go all ballistic Dr. Spock on this one. Maybe it’s a cup full of Starbucks’ delicious apple cider. Or maybe they just let her have a little sip to see how it tastes -that’s okay, right?

Or does this kid need a full-blown parenting intervention, stat? I hear Michael Lohan is looking for something to do.

  • People need to relax. Starbucks has plenty of options for kids. Plain milk, hot cider, hot/iced tea, chai tea, water…just because it’s in the cup doesn’t mean they are pumping her up with a shit ton of caffeine. Now the no jacket thing is another problem considering it has been pretty darn cold in NE the past week.

    • ITA– just because it’s a Starbucks cup does not mean it’s coffee. And WTH is with them dressing her so inappropriately for the weather. That dress is a summer dress and sandals… no jacket or leggings? Yet they are dressed completely for Fall. I don’t get it?

      • yea, the way she dresses bothers me too. but she’s been doing it a lot, i think she might have some type of sensory disease where she can’t feel coldness. it’s the only thing, imo, that explains her lack of clothing for this type of weather.

of course, i’ve never seen her in real life, so take this with a grain of salt.

      • I don’t feel the cold either, I can stand outside in 40 degree weather in a t-shirt. I don’t know why. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her, she seems happy.

      • well there are varying degrees of sensory processing disorder and many people don’t even realize they have it. also, it all depends where you live – if you live and grew up in a cold environment of course you’ll have a higher tolerance for colder weather. but if you come from a place that is normally warm and you still have a high tolerance for cold, then you might be hyposensitive

      • Dude, tons of kids hate wearing jackets, etc. Tom’s holding her sweater and they have her wrapped in a blanket. They’re not neglecting her.

      • To Anonymous:

If they just dressed her properly in the beginning then they wouldn’t have to carry around extra blankets and jackets. Why hassle yourself with carrying extra things if all that can be avoided.

I don’t think they are neglectful parents but you can’t let a three year old be the boss and let her choose everything.

      • You don’t make any sense. If they have a sweater… how is that not dressing her properly?

Wouldn’t you be more concerned if they HADN’T brought along her sweater or blanket?

You really are a fucking moron.

      • To V:

You obviously don’t see my point. If she was wearing jeans or a full skirt and a long shirt instead of a short dress, then they wouldn’t need the blanket and sweater.

i’ve had to drag along children’s items when i take my nieces and nephews out and it’s annoying.

    • Yeah. I actually could care less about what’s in that cup. I doubt it’s anything shocking. It was probably put into a coffee cup because of the lid that comes with it. Could be a number of things child friendly. I can’t help but compare what Tom and Katie are wearing compared to what Suri is wearing. I live in Massachusetts and it was a nice weekend but was still only 60 degrees…. not 85 out. I think the fact that Katie and Tom are dressed for 60 degree weather says it all.

      • The starbucks doesn’t bother me. If Suri doesn’t like wearing coats thats understandable. Lots of kids don’t like wearing coats. But that doesn’t explain why that have her in an obviously spring/ summer dress and sandal type shoes. Why don’t they put some tights on the kid or pants and a long sleeve shirt.

  • I know a ton of little kids who taste coffee drinks, especially if they’re the special latte kind. People need to chill the fuck out.

  • Seriously as other ppl said- its prob hot chocolate or chocolate milk etc., GET OVER IT! This is news? your opinion on what is in Suri Cruise’s cup? wow.

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if it was coffee, because judging by the way they let here walk around(srsly, ALL the people in the picture seem to wear jackets or at least sweaters, even her own mother wears a scarf!),they really don’t seem to be the greatest parents of all time…

      • Yeah, sure, but what about her legs?
And if she was my daughter,I actually would’t care if she said she wasn’t cold or not…she’s three.I don’t think that a child at that age is capable of deciding which kind of clothes are weather-appropriate.

      • Thank god she’s not your child then. Maybe she really ISN’T cold, children are capable of telling the truth, you know.

      • Actually a little child can have frostbites and such and not knowing it, the nerves that controll that sort of thing isnt developed fully until they are a bit older…

Dress the kid right. Put away all her summerdresses and then she can pick warm stuff to go outside in IF it is so important that she do it herself.

  • who cares about the coffee cup!
this child has been seen in this borderline winter weather wearing sundresses.
i HOPE she’s drinking coffee! at least she’d have one thing keeping her warm!

  • some kids just don’t get cold. i know i went through a stage when i was about 4 where i just wanted to wear shorts all the time even in the middle of winter. rather than having a useless battle with a 4 year old my mother decided i would learn my lesson by getting cold. i think we need to get over how they dress her. I mean she looks happy… if she were walking around with blue lips looking miserable and they were refusing to give her a coat that would be a whole different story.

  • gosh this site has gone downhill
when i saw these photos ages ago, the accompanying article said “Suri was just carrying an empty Starbucks cup so she could make-believe.”

if you were gonna post old pics you could have at least posted the funny ones of her standing in the cupcake shop’s window and making faces at passersby.

  • its def hot chocolate or something. more importantly she needs a coat and she shouldnt be wearing high heels.

  • Look in Tom’s hand… there is her coat. Calm down. Maybe she was hot. Weather does change occasionally.

  • She might be one of those kids who just refuses to wear a sweater. My sister used to refuse to take hers off and she’d overheat and pass out. Drove us insane. Mum used to charge me on a warm day to find her at lunch time at school and wrestle the sweater off her.

  • So what if it *IS* coffee? No different than people whose children drink soda. Big deal! They’re walking all over town — perhaps she got warm?? All these pictures we see are all taken out of context — we never see what they’ve been doing for the last hour, or what they do immediately after the shot. I’m no fan of Tom or Katie, but leave them & their kid alone already. She looks like she’s healthy and happy to me.

  • While I agree that these photos can be taken out of context (and I could give a rat’s ass about what she’s drinking), the truth is every single photo of the past couple of years shows this girl dressed inappropriately for cold weather. Consistently. She may very well be a spoiled brat who refuses to wear a coat (or pants/stockings), and gets away with it because of mom and dad’s inability to put her in her place. Not an excuse. If that’s the case, swaddle her like a baby until she agrees to dress appropriately. Be an f’ing parent. It’s ridiculous.

    • I might be totally wrong on this, but isn’t there some belief in Scientology that kids get to make their own decisions and parents need to allow that? I apologize if I’m picking on the wrong cult–er, religion. Regardless, I think she needs to be wearing either tights/leggings or the jacket Tom’s wearing.

This is ridiculous, and it passes an interesting litmus test–if you saw these three walking down the street and they weren’t Tom, Katie, and Suri, would you be concerned about the little girl’s attire? For me, the answer is a resounding yes. That’s why I’m concerned.

  • Whatever. People need to realize it’s not cold weather that gets you sick. If the kid didn’t want to wear a jacket, the world’s not going to end. Plus, this article is ridiculously stupid; how dumb to freak out about the contents of the cup when it could be hot chocolate, etc? I drank coffee as a kid. I didn’t die. Sheesh.

  • Holy judgements, people! No matter what, Suri is such a beautiful little girl, with parents who will do their best to raise her…I wonder what stories pictures would tell if the paparazzi was following the rest of us parents around with our kids??!

  • Why is she not dressed for the cold weather? If your child wants to wear the wrong clothing you simply pack it up limiting their choices to clothes appropriate for the time of year. Her hair is rarely even brushed, I bet she’s running show not the parents.

It’s probably cocoa in the cup, starbucks has awesome cocoa.

  • There has always been smth weird about this little girl starting with her birth certificate. But noone pays attention to such “details” rite? In vain they are trying to hide the fact that shes older. Nature reveals everything. Who are they trying to fool? No way Suri is 3 1/2 yo. She looks more like 4-4 1/2 yo.

  • I also find it strange if you look at all the adults around her, they have on long sleeves or coats..and shes in that thin little sleeveless dress..I don’t care if she likes wearing coats or not..whos the boss??? I believe in letting children have some free reign about some things, but not when it comes to thier health.

  • I have seen some time ago a documentary on tv about some very expensive schools in Japan where they let young kids go around almost naked the whole time (even when it’s full winter) to make them grow up stronger. No idea if it works or not, I actually think it is kinda crazy, but the Cruise family might be doing that kind of stuff.. Just guessing.

  • …Hi..regardless of the way she is dressed, the girl always seems happy to me, plus her dad is carrying her sweater…and I’m 44yrs old and have drank coffee since Suri’s age and have never had any health problems whatsoever and was first in school always…

  • Perhaps the coat and blanket are there because they KNOW she’s going to get cold enough to want them at some point? You can pick on their parenting skills all you like, but do you really believe they’re going to let her get FROSTBITE?! Give me a break. I’ve known people who let young children drink a little coffee. I don’t do it with my kids, but so what? It’s probably (as others have said) hot chocolate, apple cider, milk etc. anyway… but even if it’s not, it’s none of our business.

  • man it pisses me off when i see katie and tom walking around all bundled up and this poor child is wearing nothing in clearly chilly weather.

if i were a bystander or even the pap i would yell

PUT A SWEATER ON YOUR BABY YOU TWATS!

seriously tho. Katies looks nice and warm….

    poor Suri

  • because tom is gay…he takes the emphasis off of himself by having the media focus all the media attention on his daughter…..goodle his sex romp he had with rob thomas see for yourself. That’s why he hooked up with Kate Holmes, she interviewed to be his wife, that’s how sick hollywood is! Meanwhile, she looks out of it all the time . So you have all of the money in the world and miserable.

He does anything to keep the spotlight off of him

  • I doubt a kid that age would even like the taste of coffee. It’s probably hot chocolate, chocolate milk, any number of kid appropriate things.

  • Even though I hate, hate, HATE this family I still think that her parents are sick of arguing with her. They brought the coat. She didn’t want to wear it. She’s old enough to talk now, and if she gets cold and wants the coat she’ll tell them- some things just arent worth arguing about, my parents were pretty strict as well but some things you just have to let slide. my god. Also, she’s probably drinking hot chocolate or something. And i find this picture adorable.
isn’t there something more scandalous going on than this that can distract us from the failing economy?

  • Mom kate looks like she was captured by hillbillies and manage to escape while mucking out the mule barn

  • I’ve actually never seen Kate or her daughter happy in any of the candid photos. Though, Tom always looks like a delirious person with that crazy grin of his. I hope this little girl grows up to be a stable and happy person who is willing to contribute to society – unlike so many other empty socialites that Hollywood is infected with.

  • Starbucks’s serves a “kid’s hot chocolate” that is an excellent value-not to mention it gets kids hooked into that “Starbucks is cool” mindset at an early age.
When I was little I insisted on wearing chaps, a suede vest and a gun holster complete with pistols everywhere I went. I am sure my mother was thrilled. I refused to part with them. Some kids you can argue with, some kids you can’t.
The Cruise family in all likelihood walks on the street for about ten seconds before they hop into their warm limo.
    Don’t sweat the small stuff.

  • EVERYONE ELSE in the photo is wearing either a coat, or a sweater or a sweatshirt. Her own mother looks like she is going lumberjacking. I hope it is hot chocolate.

  • I wonder how many of the people complaining about her possibly drinking coffee let their kids drink soda.

Let’s see most of the people on this site are Americans, most Americans have horrible diets, so probably most of the people complaining let their kids eat and drink crap.

  • I think people need to get lives. She doesn’t look miserable, so maybe she doesn’t feel the cold. I mean, I don’t think the dress is appropriate for the weather but they have a blanket and jacket for her, so they are covered. I know that getting children to wear they don’t want to is a battle royale, so maybe Tom and Kate are just picking their battles. If they have her out in the dead of Winter in that dress, then I’d worry. As for the cup–it’s probably hot chocolate or something.
