Kirk Cameron Thinks the Holocaust Is Charles Darwin’s Fault

Oh how I love Kirk Cameron. One minute, the world is going along just swimmingly, and then the next, our favorite born-again teen heartthrob is in our face to point out how terrible the world is now that we teach our kids about evolution. Kirk and some of his fundamentalist pals have joined forces to protect poor, innocent college students against the horrors of Darwin’s seminal work, The Origin of Species.

“Atheism has been on the rise for years now, and the Bible of the atheists is The Origin of Species,” Cameron says. “We have a situation in our country where young people are entering college with a belief in God and exiting with that faith being stripped and shredded. What we want to do is have student make an informed, educated decision before they chuck their faith.”

He and other creationists have created thousands of editions of Charles Darwin’s landmark work explaining evolutionary theory, with a 50-page introduction that picks apart aspects of Darwin’s work and links it to everything from Nazi eugenics to the scientist’s alleged “disdain for women.” On Nov. 19, three days before the 150th anniversary of the original publication of Origin of Species, Cameron and other religious activists will distribute their books at “the top 50” universities around the country. (You can check out Kirk speaking about it here.) He seems to imply that universities are trying to “censor” his views and may try to interfere with his distribution of literature. I wouldn’t worry so much about that, Kirk. It’s not that anyone’s trying to censor you. It’s just that no one cares, because you’re loony.

Continues Kirk:

“You can see where [Hitler] clearly takes Darwin’s ideas to some of their logical conclusions and compares certain races of people to lower evolutionary life forms. If you take Darwin’s theory and extend it to its logical end, it can be used to justify all number of very horrendous things.”

OH THAT’S RIGHT. Charles Fucking Darwin’s book has been used to justify SO MANY HORRENDOUS THINGS. Like the Inquisition, the Salem Witch Hunts, the Crusades, the War in Iraq … oh, no, wait. I’m thinking of the Bible.

I just don’t understand this shit. I believe in God. As it turns out, I believe in a God so very powerful that it may possibly have occurred to this God to create evolution. And science. Why is this so hard for people to stomach? Why do these people insist that their all-powerful God is somehow incapable of having created a science to explain the universe? Why must they wage a war against atheism and non-Christian beliefs when Jesus’ primary message was one of universal love and tolerance? This crazy shit is so far removed from the beautiful and spiritual teachings of Jesus Christ.

Above find a very awesome video response to Kirk’s video. Mostly I love it because I love the chick’s hair and I want my hair to look like that.

  • The ideas in Darwin’s Origin were by no means new. The idea of an inherently “good” race or eugenics was around in the 17th century.

  • I’ve never read the origin of species, but seeing this douche in action actually inspired me to. Thanks Kirk.

  • God, I really hate self-righteous Christians. Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution deals with BIOLOGICAL evolution … Hitler and other similar fucks change the interrpretation to SOCIAL evolution. Its NOT fucking rocket science.

Religion is opium for the masses- Karl Marx

  • Let’s say God buys this new kickass computer game, SimTellus. He plays for six days straight, then gets a bit bored with it but decides to let it run by itself in real-time. God sits back, lights up a fatty and just watch the ensuing mayhem.

(Footnote: I consider myself an agnostic on the verge of atheism with a live and let live philosophy. I try to respect other people’s beliefs no matter how nutty they might appear at first glance.)

  • Hmm… I feel I may need to clarify my last post, as it didnät really have a conclusion. Silly me!

I meant my previous post as a slightly satirical way of combining a belief in Genesis and Darwinian evolution. I do realise it doesn’t fly with hardcore creationists, the earth being just a few thousand years old and all.

  • I went into college a frightened Southern Baptist and came out both independent in thought and beliefs. I guess that makes me one of his statistics.

Oh, and he shouldn’t even start with “disdain for women.” There may be a glass ceiling in the world of science but there is also a damn lot of limitations put on women in conservative Christianity. The day I see Michelle Duggar with a haircut and NOT wearing a long skirt will also be the day Southern Baptists allow women to be pastors.

    • “The day I see Michelle Duggar with a haircut and NOT wearing a long skirt will also be the day Southern Baptists allow women to be pastors.”

No joke. Michelle Duggar needs to tell ole’ Jim Bob to zip it up and put the penis away. As cheery as they behave on camera I bet good money that he is a tyrant in private.

Of course I am the girl who has the full on Baptist education from grade school through College. So I can always spot the men who have the belief that women are not equal. Nor very bright. And need to be told how to be a “good” wife.

I bet Kirk has to tell his wife how to act too.

  • Scientist to God. We no longer need you we can create life ourselves now.
God.. Go ahead then, do it.
Scientist. Well, first you take a bunch of chemicals and a chicken..
God.. Wait! Get your own chicken..

  • Beet- I want to share a glass of wine with you. and it will be good- there is wine mentioned in the bible. but the wine will be under 2 years old and yummy..

  • For me, what is hard about believing in Creationism & Evolution is that they really do contradict each other.

I am very fact based and everything that has been gathered from when multi-cellular organisms appeared on earth to the 5 mass extinctions Earth has had….

I guess just don’t see an all-powerful being the one to control the existence of something like the coding of DNA. From things like the evolution of the eye to why mitochondria and chloroplasts have double membranes….like I said, those weren’t made because someone said it so.

    • I think this is why so many people espouse deist beliefs- the idea that God created the universe, sparked it with life, then just let it do its own thing.

You can read more about it here:

      vhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deism

And in fact, it is not difficult to simultaneously believe in creationism and evolution. The bible says God created the world, and the life in it. It doesn’t say by what means, and it gives us no context as to how long each of the seven “days” are.

The section where we are told how something is made, i.e. Adam and Eve, we are given two conflicting stories (Adam being made simultaneously with Eve, and Eve being made from Adam’s rib, only it isn’t a rib, because thats a translation error, but try telling that to your average church goer in the bible belt) which would indicate that these two simultaneous accounts, both presented as true, are to be understood not literally, but appreciated for their richer, subtextual meaning.

The writers of the old testament weren’t stupid, and they didn’t expect their readers to be, either. Much of what’s written there is multi-layered and complex. Unfortunately, in contemporary western culture, we DO read it stupidly, and take everything literally and with as little interpretation as humanly possible. For some reason we believe that God would take something as wonderfully complex as THE CREATION OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE and distill it into something as simple as the surface meaning of genesis 1.

      • ehh, I think trying to rationalize the bible is silly. Creation stories are creation stories peeps, they all sound equally unlikely.

I think a lot of people are afraid that when they die that’s it, it’s over. They can’t face that they will never know why they are here and that their lives will end so they cling to religion for meaning.

        Just sayin’.

  • I was raised in a Southern-Baptist household; when I was in my 20’s, I began to ask myself questions about things that just didn’t add up for me and I stopped going to church. Now at 43, I have evolved into an atheist but sometimes, the loss of faith bothers me. I have recently asked a lot of my religious friends and acquaintances this question: “What are the top 3 things from the Bible that you think prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that there actually IS a God?” This is what one of them answered:
“That is so hard for me to answer. I have always believed in God and I know I talk to him all the time. I pray and sometimes things don’t get answered and I just look at it like this, I am here for a reason and or my prayers didn’t get answered like I wanted because that isn’t the way God has intended my life to be. I wish I could answer your question.
    Remember God does love you.”
Oddly enough, not ONE answer I’ve gotten has named even 1 specific example…they believe, yet they can’t tell me why?

  • His beliefs are based on Biblical principles, which is one of the foundations of Christianity. He’s not denying that people have done bad things in the name of Christ, but he’s also pointing out that others have done it in the name of “evolution.”

Evolution is a theory and he’s simply pointing out that it shouldn’t be taught as fact.

    • In the realm of science the word “theory” doesn’t mean the same thing that is does elsewhere, see theory of gravity, or germ theory.

  • WTF was Kirk “Doucheburger” Cameron doing seconds before he started running his mouth? Was he vacuuming? Anyhoo, I think that the hot Russian (or, pardon me, wherever she’s from) chick made more valid points during this video than he did. It makes me wonder, do Christians cringe when they see and hear people like him arguing for their beliefs?

    • “It makes me wonder, do Christians cringe when they see and hear people like him arguing for their beliefs?”

I speak only for myself, another Christian that believes God was capable of evolution and that the world is more than 6000 years old.
Yes, yes he does make me cringe.

  • hey, I’m a christian, and believe it or not, my wife’s a christian and she teaches science at a small school in Texas. She teaches her kids that dinosaur bones were left by the devil to try to fool christians….. NOT!!! Believe it or not she teaches evol and isn’t hanged by the citizens. She’s like a beautiful genius (but her taste in men sucks – I’m a complete moron) the way she winds her faith with science and doesn’t try to confuse kids. Darwin doesn’t equal atheist. Oh, we also have twins, a boy and a girl who are four. Their Godparents happen to be two men who have been in a committed relationship for over 20 years and are married in the sight of God and Canada. And I love the complete crap out of them and so do my kids. and oh, Jesus Saves.

  • God created man and woman. They did not evolve from monkeys. I believe God allows tranformations in skin colour dependant on Sun temp (and possibly other similar adaptations) but we are best not to call this evolution, as its really a God deisnged mechansm me thinks.

  • I believe in Charles Darwin…Einstein , Pascal , Pasteur , Flemming , Galilei , Edison , Copernico , Kepler , Curie , Pitagoras , Tales , Mendel , Newton………………….but Cameron?……Who is Cameron?
September 11 is Carl Sagan´s Fault?
