House Rules Monday Night

Did you guys watch the House season premiere on Monday night? I know I did, and it looks like about 16.5 million other people did the same. Hugh Laurie (sans the rest of his crew) ruled the first night back for the networks, drowning Heroes and Dancing with the Stars in lower-than-expected numbers. The competition also seemed to impact Jay Leno’s show, which brought in roughly one-third of its week-earlier premiere-night numbers, and posting its lowest ratings so far.

Soooo, what did you guys think of the House premiere? I liked it, I guess, but I wasn’t as excited about it AFTER I watched it as I was before. I felt a lot of the psych-ward situations and dialogue were implausible, and I felt it dragged a bit. Plus, House just isn’t as fun without his team around him. It made me realize how much of an ensemble drama the show really is. It just didn’t work right without the rest of the cast. Luckily, they’ll all be back next week, and I’ll definitely be tuning in again. We’ll see if the rest of the country does the same.

  • “psych-ward situations”?

Was Wendie a special guest on the show?

Some violent, straight jacketed, lobotomy patient, roaming the halls drooling and eating jello?

  • Before anyone asks how she can be straight jacketed and still be eating jello it is because I envisioned her wearing one of those stupid NFL fan hats with bottles on either side filled with jello (not beer)and her sucking it down with a straw.

Such an image cracks me up !

  • I think Hugh is an amazing actor, loved the show, and since Im a “House” junkie, will definitly be tuning in next week!

  • Nope, We ended up watching HEROES! All I can say is this season of Heroes looks a lot better than last season (so far) but then again a TV series about picking your nose for an hour would have looked better than the last season of the show.

  • Didn’t see it, but just want to take this opportunity to say how validated I feel these days in my teen crush on Hugh Laurie. At last, other people see what I was talking about! I used to get such stick for it from my friends.

  • Nope. Watched How I Met Your Mother, Accidentally on Purpose, Two & 1/2 Men and The Big Bang Theory, followed by Leno.

  • I wouldn’t be surprised to find that FOX is setting up a spin-off series for andre braugher–they seemed to have invested an awful lot in talent, character development, etc. for this episode. and since it was so highly-rated, i am sure the wheels are spinning.

i liked this episode a lot. but i LOVE hugh laurie. always have.

  • well maybe beet has been reading the comments about her lack of imput on the website lately….but it still doesnt make up for how crap this site is turning. i normally love wendie but lately she has been a little over the top with her negative posts on people…such a shame though cuz i love this blog…it was the first blog i ever read and the first one to get me hooked! that was years ago…wow and its sad to see how beet has neglected it instead of nurturing it to its full potential…ive now found a slew of other blogs that i like (but none are anywhere close to as good as this blog used to be) oh well…que serra…whatever will be will be…

  • Well….since Hugh Laurie is MY boyfriend…I had to watch. I’ve been in love with him since the Bertie Wooster days. I thought the show was a little too ‘Cuckoo’s Nest’ – and it’s hard to pull that off without it sliding into pat caricatures (the paranoid guy, the shy girl, the suicidal girl, etc). Plus I was really hoping for more conflict between the amazing actor Andre Braugher and Hugh Laurie – that’s a match made in Heaven.

thought the little sex scene with Famke (sp?) was hot – and he is an actor who reveals everything through his eyes.

I too am waiting for the regular season to put him back in touch with his supporting cast – all of whom are pretty darn good company for our Dr.

  • I thought it was really well written. Because it was extra long, it had the feel of a movie, instead of a tv show. The story-telling allows the episode to stand alone – you wouldn’t need to know much background to still understand what was happening to the character(s), and why it was meaningful. I do agree that the show works on television because it is an ensemble, and I feel like next week’s episode will be like a 2nd premier for the season. This week’s premier was an excellent moment in television in general.

  • Love, love, LOVED it.
    An amazing episode.
The opening sequence was fantastic, the sex scene was smokin’, and Hugh Laurie continues to blow me away with his acting.
One of the best shows on television for sure.

  • I watched it.
I thought it was brilliant, they needed a break from what they do every week and I think they accomplished that without hurting the show at all.

Honestly, I would watch Hugh Laurie do anything though, House just makes it even more enjoyable.

  • WELCOME TO THE NEW AMERICA FOLKS!

    LET THE CENSORSHIP BEGIN!

MY FRIEND ” JERZY ” HAS APPARENTLY BEEN BANNED FROM THE SITE!

    APPARENTLY DISSENSION ISN’T ALLOWED!

FREEDOM OF SPEECH MUST JUST BE A SLOGAN HERE, IT OBVIOUSLY ISN’T POLICY YET!

WE ALL KNOW HE WASN’T FOND OF WENDIE!

THAT HAS TO HAVE BEEN THE REASON!

HE HAS BEEN POSTING REMARKS ON THIS SITE FOR OVER A YEAR. HIS OLDER STUFF IS EVEN MORE OUTRAGEOUS AND IT NEVER GOT HIM BLOCKED OUT.

    THIS IS INCREDIBLE. OH WELL.

    JERZY SAYS GOODBYE!

    • Anonymous, this is not the United States of America. This is a blog, and like most blogs, it has rules and guidelines about what may or may not be posted on it. Though I have to say that your equation between the publishers of this blog and the Obama Administration is quaint.

Furthermore, freedom of speech is neither a slogan nor a policy on this site. Have you seen it printed anywhere? I certainly haven’t. The policy, it seems to me, is that anyone who’s being openly abusive, as Jerzy had repeatedly been to one of the writers, runs the risk of being banned. (And even if he hasn’t been, I’ve read the guy’s comments, and I wouldn’t shed any tears.) This is the same thing that would happen in any civilized, social setting, like your living room (or maybe that’s reaching a bit far)?

I can see why your friend is frustrated, though. Where, oh where will he direct his impotent rage now?

      • Amen.
So many people post on their comments on this blog as if they have some entitled right to do so. They do not. They do not own this blog, nor do they pay to use it.
Jerzy was annoying, arrogant, hateful and never had anything of value to offer. The majority of the readers of this blog hated him, regardless of Wendie did or not. Often more than half of the comments on any given post would be composed of people telling him off. And that is more than enough to have him banned.
        Good riddance.

  • Question:
Is this a show I can start watching now and be able to keep up without watching the previous seasons?

My roommate has it recorded, and I can’t decide whether to give it a go. Sounds interesting, though.

    • Yes! Because of scheduling conflicts, I was never home to watch “House” with the rest of my family. This year, I’m not only to catch the new shows, but I can also watch a re-run from seasons past at 5pm on a local station. I have no idea of the chronology, and only very rarely do I have to ask someone, “What’d he mean by saying that??” You might enjoy a little background info, first, but you definitely don’t need to start with season 1 and go chronologically.

    • you can just start watching now, but I would recommend that you also watch the first five seasons, they are super fun -time well spend I say! and I think it’s nice to have the whole personal storyline down :)

  • I thought it was horrible, last season was bad and I was giving the show one last chance …..and I will never watch another House episode ever again.

  • This show died along with Kal Penn’s character last season. It’s just not the same without Kutner. And the constant Amber “appearances” are getting old. Never liked her. Never will.

  • Loved it. Yes, he was a little Jack Nicholsonish in the first half, but I thought it showed how the show stands up incredibly well without the ensemble or the medical diagnostics.

Don’t let the door hit ya Jerzy….

  • Andre Braugher was FABULOUS on Homicide – Life on the Streets which I watched religiously. His vocal delivery is unique and powerful. I would love to see him regularly somewhere. Maybe House’s regular psychiatrist? I see that the lovely doctor Olivia is showing up everywhere lately as world’s hottest this or that which is great publicity to get men to tune in on Monday nights.

I was afraid that putting House in a psychiatric ward would cause the show to “jump the shark” but I don’t think so. I hope not. But if it starts to suck, I can always catch reruns on basic cable somewhere.
