Friends Say DJ AM Was Heartbroken

The photo above was snapped last night as model and DJ AM’s recent ex girlfriend Hayley Wood watched medics remove his body from his New York apartment. Some close to the pair are saying that it was their split that may have been AM’s breaking point on his road to stay sober.

The two broke up a few weeks ago when Hayley decided that it was over. AM was already in a fragile place and did not want the relationship to end. While he put on a brave front, throwing out the first pitch at a Mets game and fulfilling all of his work obligations, friends say that the weeks leading up to his death were clearly hard for him. AM was distant, started blowing people off, was hard to get in touch with, all things that were uncharacteristic.

Woods is just another person on a very long list of those who will remember and miss Adam Goldstein.

  • To be lucky enough to survive a plane crash and take your own life after… It’s an insult to those who died in that crash! Don’t get me wrong, I feel bad about his death, but I just have a problem with those who commit suicide.

    • What happens alot with drug relapses is a person may stop for a long period time (as did DJ AM). If this post is true he may have felt very depressed about his break up and started taking crack again, but taking the amount he normally used to take when he was an addict. And if your body isn’t used to that amount, well it happened to River Phoenix as well, and I’ve heard speculations it is also what has happened to MJ.

      • My point is, he probably smoked the crack to numb his pain, but unfortunetly it was too much for him. I truly do not think he did it intentionally to kill himself.

      • Call it what you will. How many of us have not survived some tragedy or dealt with sorrow? It’s all relative. We do it everyday. He did not have to deal with the troubles that most people have. Am I going to be able to pay my mortgage? The kids’ tuition? Food? Maybe going back into the club scene was not the best choice for a recovering addict.

  • there is no reason to bring hayley wood into this. her ex boyfriend just died and she probably feels terrible and heart broken over it. and the media’s coverage of her probably isn’t helping. i hope people leave her alone.

also, breaking up with a girlfriend is no excuse to go to drugs.

  • While she may be heartbroken by his death it was not her fault in any way. People break up all the time, with a job like his it would be difficult to be with him as he was up all night and slept all day if he was working. Models work all day and need lots of sleep – whatever the reasons were that this happened she is not in anyway responsible for this tragic event.

She’s very beautiful, and I am sure this is going to be tough for her to get over.

  • It is DJ AM’s fault that he is dead. I really admired him but not anymore. When you know you have addiction problems, pick up the phone and call for help, don’t pick up drugs. He had a dream job with lots of friends and money. Lots of folks have lost everything and are homeless and they are asking for help. He KNEW he had problems and he had the money to pay for the best help that most common people can not. Addiction didn’t exist back in the cave man days as far as I know. It’s something that man created. I think people who are ‘addicted’ have low self esteem problems and conveniently use ‘I’m an addict’ as an excuse for their poor choices. DJ AM blew it!

  • He’s probably been suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder since being on fire in a plane crash, like Travis Barker has been. They probably put him on morphine for the pain. Those 2 things alone would easily send the strongest of sober ex-addicts back to drugs. I doubt it was the break-up alone, probably a number of factors. It’s just sad.

  • seems a little insensitive to post that pic… kind of like the shanna moakler / hospital pic a long while back. just my opinion.
