Robert Redford, Sibylle Szaggars

Robert Redford and his long-time girlfriend — are you really boyfriend and girlfriend when you are 71 years old and 51 years old, respectively? — married over the weekend in Germany.  The ceremony took place in Hamburg at the Louis C. Jacob Hotel with 30 guests in attendance.

Redford’s new wife is Sibylle Szaggars, a German abstract artist with an international following, that he met in 1996.  This is his second marriage.  Robert was married for 27 years to film director Lola Van Wagenen until their divorce in 1985.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

    Robert Redford is 71?

What an idiotic and discriminatory notion that someone’s age would prevent them from having a boyfriend or girlfriend. What…so if someone is of a certain age, their love life falls off the map? That’s dumb.

I’m pretty sure she meant the terms are outdated once you reach a certain age. I’m in my thirties and don’t refer to my significant other as boyfriend. If he was a BOY that would be illegal. He is my man. Maybe manfriend? :-)

In conclusion: think about what you are saying before you call someone dumb. You may be the one to look dumb in the end!

Congrats to the couple! I love RR! He was the ORIGINAL blond hair, blue eyed hottie! (scoot aside, Brad!)

What a shame. Even the pretty ones end up looking like Robert Duvall in the end.

I’m just happy he’s married someone who’s not 35 or under.

  6. Holly says:

Holy crap! When did he get so old?!

  7. Michelle says:

    Wow, he looks old now!

Great link JennB! Although I think the McConahay/Newman comparison is stretching it a bit, a lot actually.

Rumor has it Sibylle is a lovely, warm person – congrats to them both. I think in our language we only have boyfriend or girlfriend to denote a couple no matter what the age, so it does seem incongruous on some level when describing people well past middle age. Love him though, no matter how old he gets.

Congratulations to them both. I hope they are very happy. He is an intelligent, environmentally aware gentleman who has lived his life well. I still miss Paul Newman being on this earth. Another fine man.
