Bacon Climbs a Mountain and Sings About Farrah Fawcett

Kevin Bacon has a band with his brother– who I really wish was named “Macon,” but is unfortunately called Michael. This weekend, the Bacon brothers hiked to the top of Pike’s Peak in Colorado to play a benefit concert for the Love, Hope, Strength Foundation, an organization which describes itself as “an international, music-centric cancer charity dedicated to providing support for cancer centers, and inspiration to those affected, throughout the world.”

It took 6 hours for the 50 year old actor and his brother to hike to the top of the 14,110 ft. peak, where along with Cy Cumin of The Fixxx, the duo played a benefit concert which included a tribute to Farrah Fawcett– who, as we all know, recently lost her battle with anal cancer. 95 hikers also trekked up the mountainside to attend the benefit concert.

Love, Hope, Strength has previously hosted events on Machu Picchu and Mount Everest. Which leads me to question the sense of holding a benefit concert on top of a mountain where not many people will attend.  But in terms of publicity, I suppose it can’t be beat.

And who am I to criticize someone’s well-meaning but slightly ineffective act? To help those being persecuted in Iran, I turned my Twitter avatar green. I’m sure that will really make the Ayatollah sit up and take notice.

  • There’s a train and a road that both go to the top of Pikes Peak. If the concert wasn’t attended, it’s either because it wasn’t publicized or because no one wanted to go.

  • Wow this is the best thing I have seen on line. I am a huge fan of Farrah and I remember my father’s 50th birthday party and the “Famous” poster one of his friends gave him. I joined her fan club and me and my friends used to play Charlie Angels – I never got to be her but trust me we all tried our best to get the hair. I was lucky I had the Shampoo and Conditioner. I watched her special on TV and with 4 boys running around I did not have a clue she had cancer. Today I am remembering my sister Nancy she passed on too early from Diabetes and passed on from heart failure. On Saturday my sister Debbie went to visit University Hospital of Cleveland – she is my oldest sister and has throat cancer. My Mother ( Marmee ) goes tomorrow morning for her first Mycro something Mohs surgery on her forhead. Sorry but I have been up since 3 a.m. with my 8 yr old and this flu – and now it is almost 3 p.m. and I will take my 13 yr old to baseball game wait for my 11 yr old to come home from a sleep over and then my husband that I love who does concrete and has hardly worked all year will arrive with my 4 year old. Oh why am I writing all of this because I needed to and I cancelled my 4th of July trip to see my sister in NY because I can not leave my boys but I really needed this vacation. Final note yes I jibber jabber alot and I am allowed. I am a huge fan of your and so is my family my older boys are still afraid of your amazing suspense movies – I love them – your marriage and family when I see you speak of each other is very admired by me and my husband. Could you send me a Bacon CD so I can dance while I cook for my family? If not I understand and seriously what a beautiful thing you and your brother did in Honor of Farrah Fawcett…..God Bless
