Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick Expecting … Twins?

sjp_mb

Well, I suppose this is one way to put the break-up rumors to rest. Despite being hounded this year by talk that their relationship is crumbling, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick announced today that they’re expecting twin girls, by a surrogate.

The couple, who already have son James Wilkie, 6, announced Tuesday they’re “happily anticipating the birth of their twin daughters later this summer with the generous help of a surrogate. The entire family is overjoyed.”

Sarah is 44 and Matthew is 47, so my guess is that they used a surrogate to avoid fertility treatment and possible complications. Still: What is it with the twins? I know multiple births are a possibility when you’re implanting a bunch of fertilized eggs, but do the odds of multiple births increase somehow when the fertilized eggs belong to someone famous? Are the little spermies all like, “Oooh, hells yeah! If I get born to these people, it’s a life of Ed Hardy T-shirts and doing cocaine off a model’s stomach. I better hurry up and get inside that egg!”? Because that’s sure how it looks to me.

As a side note, if we’re spending all this time and effort implanting eggs in a surrogate’s uterus, could someone take 15 minutes out of their day to implant some hair follicles on Matthew Broderick’s head?

  • Oh, I guess I am the only one who thought it was just because she has an amazing body and didn’t want to ruin it with children. I know I wouldn’t if I looked like her!

      • Well, I guess I can accept that as a reasonable explanation, though I don’t understand why he even bothers trying to put new material out there. Does anyone even watch what he’s in anymore?

  • Well they did use a surrogate, and unlike Octopussy, probably only had two embryo implanted like normal people so they had twins, most twins are the same sex, occasionally they will be two different sexes, but same sex is more common. Who knows maybe they chose the sex of the embryo.

This would lead most to believe there marriage isn’t in as bad of shape as was thought. Interesting development.

    • actually like about half of fraternal twins are opposite sexed (one boy, one girl). Obviously, 100% of identical twins are the same sex.

      • I dentical twins are just that, identical. They HAVE to be the same sex to be identical. If they’re not, they’re fraternal no matter how much they may look alike. Identical happens when one egg spilts in two. Fraternal happens when two separate eggs are fertilized at the same time. They are no more alike than siblings born years apart would be. I thought people knew this.

      • i think she meant as opposed to B/B…. i’d hope everyone knew identical twins were… identical…

      • No shit LOL Really because I thought my b/g twins were identical.. his penis was just bigger LOL

As the pp said, yes b/b identical twins are more common than g/g twins.

  • I live in a wealthy, family neighborhood in Chicago (Lakeview) and I see 40+ year old moms with twins and sometimes triplets everywhere. Sometimes I wonder if any of them has conceived without IVF. It used to be pretty special to have twins, now it’s special if you just have one at a time.

  • The real question is, why would anyone want to stick their dick in that horseface anyway? She’s the kind of woman that you’d want to pick up in a bar before they turn the lights on at 2 a.m. and you get a good look at her. Ugh!

  • Multiple births are pretty much a “side-effect” of IVF.

The reason it seems like famous people have this happen more often than “regular” people is simply because the famous people are in the news when it happens.

After all, when you try to implant 8 embryos, you can expect, statistically, that 2 to 3 will do so successfully. (Even doing it the normal way, a large number of fertilized eggs fail to implant. I can’t remember if it’s 2/3 or 3/4 that fail to properly implant and are spontaneously rejected within the first two weeks of fertilization, but the number is surprisingly high. When this happens, the woman doesn’t even know, as there are no outward signs of pregnancy.)

Implant more embryos and greatly increase the chances of a successful pregnancy being the result.
    (Octo-Mom, anyone?)

  • I’m presuming they’re using a surrogate because Matthew isn’t sleeping with his wife and her body isn’t the healthiest to carry a child (or two) even if he was.

  • Well done, Mr. and Mrs. Cratchit. I’m sure Tiny Tim is also looking forward to his two new little sisters.

  • one guy reading another guy, he looks fucking miserable. like every bit of him wants to get out and be single, but he doesn’t have the balls. now they’re going to have twin babies? he thinks he’s miserable now….
