Lady GaGa Thinks Her Teacup Is Alive

Good lord I love me some GaGa. I’m not referring to her music– I’m referring to the neon-colored, crack-exposing, costumed insanity that is her life.

Lately, she’s taken to ascribing human qualities to the inanimate objects around her– a process that literature nerds like to refer to as “anthropomorphism”, and psychologists like to refer to as “batshit insane.”

In an interview with The Sun, she talked about the floral china teacup she’s been toting about lately, saying, “She hasnít got a name but she’s quite famous now, so I made her stay in today.” Because nothing is worse than a teacup with an inflated ego.

GaGa says She takes the cup with her almost everywhere she goes because it keeps her “grounded” and makes her “feel at home.” Grounded? I doubt there’s anything heavy enough on this planet to keep her grounded.

  • You know, I used to think, “I kind of like her, she’s quirky.” She kind of had Katy Perry’s style bumped up ten insanity levels.

I just can’t do it anymore, she is too much. There is no way a ridiculous purple tea cup keeps her grounded. It gets her attention.

I guess that’s the point though, so bravo to her.

    • Personification is when abstract concepts like death or time are given human form in a work of fiction. Excellent example: Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman.

Anthropomorphism is exactly as she described it. The process of ascribing human characteristics to inanimate objects or animals. Example: Tony the Tiger or any of the castle servants from the Disney Beauty and the Beast.

    • you mean like Madonna and her now famous cone bra? This is the kind of shit people will look back on and say was edgy as opposed to the others that just follow trends and blend in

  • Reminds me of a friend of mine who used to come to school with a coffeecup, because she was always too late to drink her coffee at home… It’s functional… saves trees and stuff… Gaga starts to get on my nerves a tiny bit though

  • yeah. thank God for people who don’t try to be like everybody else. i think the teacup makes perfect sense!

    • Assuming you’re not being sarcastic, I quite agree. I mean, I completely understand about the teacup thing. I like to anthropomorphise (that is a very long word) things like my vibrators, or my phone. Oh, ESPECIALLY my phone. I can see how you’d be that way about something you keep with you a lot. =)

  • Her music is awful. For the first 6 months or so that I knew of her, I seriously thought she was a tranny… like the new RuPaul or something. I couldn’t believe she was anything more than a joke act.

  • I would rather hear about Gaga and her teacup which makes me laugh than hear one more story about Lezlo and SamRo. Please I beg of you!! Stop torturing us with anymore posts about those two idiots!

  • So we are talking about a real teacup? hahahaa
I’m not american, I read the headline of the post and thought it was some kind of idiom, metaphor, or something… so weird! But who cares!!! I have to admit I like her a little, her songs kind of stick with me for a while :D

  • Love her music. She is insane and unique, and keeps me interested, which is odd considering I like songs for a max of five times and then get sick of them. I love her, and I’m definetly one of her little monsters :) Go Gaga!
