Tragedy strikes!!!
Remember how Leona Helmsley willed a TON of her fortune to her little dog, Trouble, and to animal charities?
Well now a judge has decided to give only a tiny portion of the money to Trouble and the animal charities, AND they’re giving millions of dollars to the two grandchildren Leona intentionally left out of her will.
If I leave everything to my little Leo, I expect him to GET THAT MONEY, dammit!

I am pretty okay with the dog not getting a lot, but why can’t the charities get it? So what if her grandchildren don’t get it? I don’t know much about the story, but did they visit her a lot, send her cards, make an effort in getting to know her? If not, what right do they have to her money?
That is FUCKED UP!!!! If she omitted her family, no one should over-ride that unless they can prove she was mentally ill/demented or was unduly influenced by others. I can see not giving it to the dog, but for fuck’s sake, give it to an animal charity!! That is just wrong.

if you leave your DOG MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, I think that by itself is a pretty fucking strong indicator of mental illness. but that’s just what I think.
Ok what kind of mentally unstable person leaves $12 million to a dog? i think that is exactly why the judge decided to disregard her will. There is no problem with her leaving her grandchildren out of the will and giving money to animal charities, but leaving $12 million to a single dog is insane.
I see the bequest to the dog as a sort of “Fuck you!” to the excluded grandchildren. Judges are *supposed* to look at the intent of the decedent (seems to me, she loved the dog, but mainly wanted to screw her grandkids) when they decide where the money should actually go.
Did she actually put in her will “X and Y grandchildren have been intentionally omitted”? When people do that, it generally circumvents this sort of problem. Not that the money would go to the dog, but the grandkids certainly shouldn’t get it. If her will included that language, and the judge gave it to them anyway, that is (IMO) a very poor decision.
Maybe she had a reason why she didn’t want to give her family the money.
