New Dan Brown Novel Expected in September!!!

dan_brown1

I know we don’t normally cover the literati around here, but I’m sure I’m not alone in LOVING Dan Brown’s books. He’s the guy behind The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, and plus I’ve read some of his techno-thriller older stuff and it is like crack too. I haven’t had much time for pleasure reading lately with all the damn work I’ve had on my plate, but I will definitely put down the computer and pick up the Kindle for this new one. I feel like the Dan Brown books are like Harry Potter or Twilight for adults, in the sense that even people who aren’t normally big readers will pick these up and get sucked in.

Six years after the release of his mega-selling “The Da Vinci Code,” the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group announced that Brown’s “The Lost Symbol,” a thriller set during a 12-hour period and featuring “Da Vinci Code” symbolist Robert Langdon, will come out in September.

“This novel has been a strange and wonderful journey,” Brown said in a statement issued Monday by his publisher. “Weaving five years of research into the story’s twelve-hour time frame was an exhilarating challenge. Robert Langdon’s life clearly moves a lot faster than mine.”

The first printing will be 5 million copies, Knopf Doubleday said Monday, a modest number considering that “The Da Vinci Code” has sold more than 80 million worldwide and inspired a spin-off community of travel books, diet books, parodies and religious works.

Are you guys excited or what???

  • Our art history department chair offers a seminar series in which she utterly destroys “The Da Vinci Code.”

People who aren’t interested in legitimate art history have no idea how many truly disgusting liberties he took with fine works of art.

  • There is a wikipedia page a mile long listing the factual inaccuracies in The Da Vinci Code; he pretty much made the whole thing up. But then again, it is fiction. I don’t find the religious/historical bullshit offensive in the least compared to the atrocious writing.
Still, you’re right: they are like crack.

  • I personally enjoyed the religious aspect of davinci code. Raised in the church and being taught we’re all equal but at the same time having the womans role being submissive always confused me. I used to always say, even before I ever heard of the book, that yes the bible was written by god but translated by man and man is very flawed. So I liked how he explored that, even if there were inaccuracies in the art history.

  • Dan Brown is *snort* literati? Y’alls need to read some good books. Try anything shortlisted by the Booker prize, to start.

My problem with The DaVinci Code extends beyond its inaccuracies: it was boring and predictable, the two worst sins a thriller novel can commit.

  • I must say that I think Dan Brown is one of the worst writers ever. His idea’s for stories are obviously incredible but he just can’t write. I did like Da Vinci Code for its story, but i just wish someone else wrote it. I like cringed through some of his writing it just sucked. He should give all of his great ideas to someone who can actually write. His execution sucks. Makes me so mad

    • Before you criticize someone else’s writing, maybe you should brush up on your own and learn that it is “ideas” and not “idea’s.”

  • I guess I’m “or what,” because I seriously wish he’d never been given a book contract. It’s fiction, but it could have been done so much better. And, of course, I’m not jealous at all that he’s made a bazillion dollars on that damn thing! ;)

  • Wasn’t a HUGE fan of Da Vinci Code (I minored in Religious Studies and there were so many inaccuracies in that book it burned me) but LOVED Angels and Demons..currently reading Deception Point at the moment and loving it too! Don’t know if the new film will be any good cause Da Vinci Code sucked!

    • well i’m excited!! dan brown’s novels aren’t serious literature, kids, they’re just for entertainment. and the man can tell a good story, even if his execution is sometimes schticky.

  • Historically inaccuracies aside, all of Dan Brown’s works are really just examples of poor writing. The story may be interesting, but the author just doesn’t have the skillz to back it up.

  • Only part that sucks is that I’ll have to wait until next year for it to come out in paperback.. all his books are great reads… Angels and Demons is better than The DaVinci Code; and Viggo Mortensen or Hugh Jackman would be better suited for the lead in the movies; especially if he’s gonna make a longer series out of this character.

  • Well, I’d not agree with them who says that Dan Brown is a bad writer. He is one of the most smartest, most intelligent, and according to me, the world’s no. 1 semi-fictional thriller writer alive. He’s just having a hard time deciding what to write, after all that controversy of The Da Vinci Code. Personally, I think that Angels and Demons is his best book. And the only thing that equalises The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons is Chapter 55 of The Da Vinci Code. I think he’s a sceptic who is confused about what to believe and expresses his feelings through his novels.
I admit thatI’m disappointed with The Lost Symbol. I expected something more from him after writing the books like The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons.
But I’m not totally disappointed at him, or his new book. Because he changed his plans this year. He wasn’t going to publish The Lost Symbol until later. He was gonna publish The Solomon Key but due to the controversy, he didn’t. If he would have published it, I think it would have become the #1 Bestseller again.

    Dear Mr. Brown,
If you ever visit this site, I’ll tell you this: the answers you’re searching for, are there at your disposal – I mean the Archive you use for your researches. Search the books in the ‘I’ Index (second) and you’ll find all the answers. You’re very close. You know the clue, you wrote it in Chapter 55 of the Da Vinci Code. Next time you write a novel, please don’t change your plans. But if I’m right, you already finished writing The Solomon Key. Therefore, I request you to publish it as soon as possible. Please don’t make your fans, especially me, wait so long. Thank you.
    Yours Sincerely,
    Socrates (I.C.M.)

  • Could someone please tell me where I’d find Johann Weyer’s Heirarchy of Hell? That’s the only book I can’t find on the net.

    Dear Mr. Brown,
I have another favour to ask of you: please don’t write anything about the Mummies of Tutankhamun or Merneptah. And please visit this site: http://www.readbookonline.net/readOnLine/11873/
    You’ll find another clue here.
You know, it’s been long since I’ve seen a man and an author like you, you’re very much like Socrates. He used to ask too many questions and tried to find the answers he was searching for, and he almost found them.
Have you read The Principia? If you haven’t, visit Project Gutenberg and you’ll find it there. The whole General Scholium is attributed to God and Freemasonry. Its size is 75MB, pretty big in the PDF Format. The Laws of the One True God will be clear to you once if you’ve read it. Well, I gotta go now. I’ll be dropping in every week here. So if you visit this website, please leave a comment to tell me if you’ve found your answers. It shouldn’t take more than a month, of course. I hope you don’t remain sceptic for long. Thank you for writing Angels and Demons, The Da Vinci Code and The Solomon Key, (which, I think, is a completely different novel from The Lost Symbol).
    Yours Sincerely,
    Socrates (Student of I.C.M.)
    P.S. I.C.M. is not an institute, it’s a person.

  • Oh, and another thing: my comments are not the least what you call: gossip, it’s not personal, either. It’s just that I want to help someone who helped me so much. Thanks to Mr. Brown, I passed the tests my teacher set me, and with top marks, of course. And now Esoteric Texts, Anagrams, and other cool creepy stuff are one of my favourite passtime. Now I’m never bored and can find the answers to my own questions. It’s just that I want to return the favour. Ciao.
