If You Can Believe It, Michael Sarver’s Not Going Back to the Oil Rig

I have to admit I was a little shocked that Michael Sarver went home on Idol last night. I was never a gigantic fan of his, but I guess I assumed he’d get enough of the “hot guy” vote to get him into the top 6 or 7. I think probably he wasn’t non-threatening enough. That award goes to Kris Boring. (No seriously I don’t even know his last name, that’s how boring I find him.) But whatever, Mikey’s going home, and you better believe he’s gonna be laying some pipe, just not on his oil rig.

“I don’t think it would be a great idea to get out there and take a chance on hurting myself and not being available for the tour,” he told a teleconference Friday. “I’m going home, and I’m going to take some time off to spend with my family. I believe they deserve my undivided attention for a little while and that’s exactly what they’re going to get.”

The media also asked him about his smile as he was eliminated. He said:

There was a smile because of the idea that, “I’m going home.” I’m not relieved, because there’s nothing to relieve me from. I was there on my own accord, and I enjoyed the heck out of it. But once I found out I was going home, the best part of it is that I have an incredible family to go home to. I couldn’t be more excited to find myself on that plane heading that direction.

Awww, I like Michael Sarver. Not enough to buy his album or anything, but I think he’s a good, solid man, and I wish him and his family all the best.

  • Hot Guy?! Surely you jest.

Nice guy. Fairly good (but not great) singer. High likability factor and sincere….check, check, check.

    But “hot guy”. NAY.

  • RG, I think that’s what Beet means by ‘laying pipe’. He goin’ home to wifey!

I watched his exit interview at rickey.org and the other contestants had a lot of nice things to say about him, how he was such a devoted family guy and loved his wife and daughter so much, and that he was really funny and just a genuine nice guy.

Made me feel kind of bad for busting on him. (I didn’t like his singing, at all.)

Nice guy, yeah. Hot guy? No way. Nobody holds a candle to my sweet Anoop.

  • Hot guy?? For real?? Please pass me some of whatever you’re drinking… Even if he were a great singer (which he’s not, IMO), I couldn’t get past that over-inflated ego (subtle as it is). So he can carry a tune — he has zero originality. Perhaps he just reminds me a bit too much of Bush’s “Texas stupid” attitude… So I’m glad he’s gone, gone back to the oil fields, to lay pipe or to drill baby drill, or whatever blows his wifey’s skirt up… Adios, muchacho…

  • dude.
    beet.
    no to the ma’am.
he sang out of his jaw, and he was freaking BORING.
    buh-bye for reals.

  • Does anyone else find idol to be a total snoozefest this year? I don’t like the new format at all and the talent is really lacking IMO. Where the eff is Mad Men? *stomps feet*

  • Hey, a lot of people think he’s pretty hot, and NOT at all boring. How many of you drool at football players? He is the all american boy next door dream guy!! I know of a lot of people who would like to have him sing to them. I am sad that he’s been voted off, and I still miss seeing his enthusiasm each week. He was truly my american idol because he was making the most of each moment…NOT trying to be someone he wasn’t. Every week you knew he would be there with a HUGE smile and was going to be having FUN. I cannot wait to purchase his first cd, and am hoping that it has his original work on it. He’s had a lot of struggles he’s dealt with in his life, and he turned his bad times into songs…and I CANNOT wait to hear those SONGS. He’s a good guy and should still be on it.
