The Sun Sets On Twilight Series

56210924stepheniemeyer129200991246am

If you are one of those Twilight freaks, you better find a new fix.  Stephenie Meyer has stopped working on the fifth installment in the series, Midnight Sun, after it was leaked on the internet.

Meyer wrote on her website, “I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on ‘Midnight Sun,’ so it is on hold indefinitely.”  She also posted the incomplete draft that found its way to the net so that her readers could see the transcript without feeling guilty(?).  “I’d rather my fans not read this version … the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes. But how do I comment on this violation without driving more people to look for the illegal posting?”

Since she probably has writer’s block is just so devastated, she has no plans to complete the book.  Sigh.  Writers are so dramatic.

  • Your article title scared the crap out of me. I thought they weren’t going to make the other movies. I liked the books but I couldn’t really care less that she isn’t writing this book.

  • I read “Twilight” on the advice of my 15-year old niece. I think I wrote better crap in 8th grade English class. In fact, I thought it was written by an 8th grader, until I found out it was a grown woman.

    J.K. Rowling, she is not.

    • Couldn’t have said it better myself. Why don’t people understand that Meyer’s writing is, excuse my French, crap?
But the REALLY sad thing is not that these books exist. It’s that 14/15 year old girls (or, heaven forbid, even older) now think that something like Twilight is literature or good writing.
      Sigh. Very sad.

    • it’s not stuff classics are made of, but she does pull off the teenager lingo very well.

i can see why that would be tough, and she is still a new writer.

and not EVEN in the same ballpark as JK Rowling.

    • not everyone has to write like J.K. Rowling to be a good writer. Some people want to actually understand what they read without having to go get a dictionary. And teenagers like this stuff. I’m sorry that i’m not interested in magic and shit. And i’m 17 years old. Not everyone has to like the same stuff. I like reading about things like love and teenagers. I can relate to it. Not the vampire part, but still. I’m not one of those people who are crazed about Twilight and stuff. I only read the first book, and that was after I saw the movie.
And you WISH you could write that well in 8th grade. HAH!

      • it’s not the content being criticized. her writing sucks. that is my english lit major opinion on the subject. james patterson sucks too and he is always a best seller. if you want proof that she sucks, read some stephen king, diana gabaldon, or barbara kingsolver. jan karon even. you will see the difference.

  • It’s not really the 5th installment since it’s just the first book from a different character’s perspective…It was really just an extra book, so I don’t think people should freak too much.

  • “the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes”
AHAHAHAHAH like it’s a difference from her finished books.

  • that was a long time ago.

she just stopped writing for now..she will pick it back up when she is not so angry.

  • This happened like in September. Wow, i did not expect you to be so late with such news. Its not even worth a mention >.>

  • Obviously she posted this several months ago. But seriously… passive-aggressive much, Stephenie Meyer? “Oh, boo hoo, someone leaked a draft of the first part of my book, and now I’m soooo sad that I cannot continue in my chosen profession and need the whole internet to feel sad for me via post on my website.” Why is a leak of your book even upsetting? Doesn’t this demonstrate enthusiasm? And if she was looking to be ignored or not have enthusiastic fans, probably selling the film rights was a bad decision.

  • LOL. Think of all Jo Rowling puts up with when it comes to her stuff being leaked. And she went through with all seven books, and all her books for charity.

    Stephanie Meyer is a psycho.

  • how many people have to say that this is old news? lol

its news to me too and im annoyed by it. but i am annoyed by nearly everything.

  • Who cares.
My girlfriend drug me out to see that movie and if it’s anything like the books then I think the world could do without anymore crappy teeny vampire flicks/books.

  • I don’t care about it, although I’m just happy she’s working on The Host’s sequels instead. Also just to annoy others more….OLD NEWS. Tee hee ^.^

  • she is such a patehtic excuse for a writer. Honestly, if she really cared about it, she would have kept writing. Internet leaks HAPPEN. it wasn’t like it was 1/2 the manuscript, right? Stuch a stupid drama queen. She sickens me.
Hopefully this will stop all of the obsessive fangirling over this stupid series. Gosh.

    • I agree with you Annicka. Her book, from the little that I’ve read my sister is a big fangirl, are poorly written and so over rated. I also agree with the drama queen statments. She really should just get over herself. You’d think she’d be excited that someone would like her pathetic excuse for books so much to give out info about them. Don’t bash me because this is only my opinion but I’ve read a bit of the Twilight series and it sucks eggs. Not to mention it has my 12 year old sister wanting to drink blood and practice magic.

  • If you read past the initial message she left about Midnight Sun, you will see that she has planned to continue writing it and will publish it in a few years time. I myself enjoy the books, even though she may have made a few mistakes, she must have done something right to have millions of dollars and can have her work turned into a very successful movie. I certainly don’t call myself a “fangirl” but since when did it become a crime to enjoy a book or a television show?

  • no, its not a bad excuse for a writer. because if it is, everyone who writes children’s books is too. you know what? not every book is for adults. twilight is for pre-teen girls.

what is so wrong about entertainment?

  • I’m sure she’s still writing it and just wants to surprise people.

I mean, sure this is a drama queen move but right now ANYTHING Twilight related = $$$$$$$.

She’d be a fool to not put this out asap.

  • I wish she would’ve stopped writing after Twilight(series). New Moon went in so many different directions, you stumbled into the next book. The writing wasn’t great but wasn’t bad. She should put all four books together and write Edwards prespective together(not just one book).Stephanie will continue writing when there’s nothing left of the series.Doesn’t the studios own every book now? Sad

  • Dude, don’t scare me like that. I agree, I thought you were going to post something about the next movie, not (pardon me for repeating what has been said, but…) very old news.

  • I know Wendie mentioned she’s into recycling, but this is ridiculous. I haven’t even read the books or seen the film and knew about this centuries ago.

  • “incredibly old news alert”
This is so old that it’s no longer news.

Plus, she WILL finish it.. once all the movie hype dies down, she’ll get back to it. She loves Edward too much to not finish it (i wouldn’t be surprised if it’s already done!)

  • I never really thought J.K. Rowling was that stellar a writer myself…but oh well better not get into it.

Is it just me or does Stephanie look like she’s lost weight in that pic? Compared to her author photos in the back of the books anyways.

As for Twlight, one crappy 4th book and one equally crappy movie ended the obsession for me.

    • are you serious about j.k.rowling? did you read all 7? numbers 5 and 6 are fantastically awesome. i’ll admit the series starts out a little cutsie abut it gets consistently deeper and she gets really witty with the social commentary. it’s actually kind of genius. oh, and i am 34 and have been an avid reader since about age 13. so it’s not like i’m calling a saltine a ritz because i’m starving.

  • THANKS ! for relying that ancient info…
now i can continue in my life….
heyy any word on the presidential election ?
    has obama won yet ?!
    please…

  • Ok i think everyone needs to just take a deep breath and chill, she is writing the book (like someone above said) so it’s going to happen. Oh and to those who don’t want her to write another book, keep it to yourselves!!! You shouldn’t care whether she writes it or not, you DON’T have to read it,and you shouldn’t care whether others do or not. And hey Klipper, the movie was crap, and you should know, the director was fired because she did a mega crappy job, though i don’t really think it was written for guys…

  • Okay, you guys are stupid. If you hate the Twilight series, then why did you come to a twilight news thing? I hate people like that. Why does it bother you if people are obsessed. Everyone has a right to their own things. And, if you hate it so much then DON’T pay any attention to it. Let other people have their fun and you have yours. Don’t ruin people’s day by posting snide commments. I think that there are waay more Twilight lovers than twilight haters in this world, so don’t embarrass yourself, because that’s exactly what you’ve done.

P.S. J.K. Rowling sucks donkey. I read I think the fourth book and I skipped over so much stuff, and I only read it because I wanted the A.R. points. And the movies were never really that good anyway. And, the main character, Daniel? He’s ugly, so don’t EVEN try and compare him to Rob!!

  • i agree with Jadehero on the part that twilight obsessed teens should be allowed to have their fun. oh, and i found this site by trying to find some new midnight sun news, and this is obviously old news… does anyone know the latest???

  • I Agree
    My Soap-box

It is unfortunate that some of us so well educated , in comfortable shoes on scarily high soap boxes with weapons in their arsenal such as english lit majors, can glare down their elegantly turned up noses at Stephanie Meyer (and indirecetly at those who enjoy her work).
Can I detect a hint of jealously?
Those words wrap vine-like around her books choking, acidic and scathing in nature. Her books are a light read… so simple, delightful and inviting to the world at large.
It is not only a teen phenomenon. I see women and men every day of all ages reading her books and truly enjoying themselves. I see people smile as they read the pages. What is so dreadful about that?
Reading is not only for the well educated and those who can disect a piece and declare it being worthy of “The Miles Franklin award”. It is about entertaining and getting people to read from all walks of life.

I am a professional woman with a tertiary education. I see the ugly nature in human beings on a daily basis as a part of my job and I have found it extremely relaxing and entertaining to read her books.
It is odd to find so many critics on a site where people are… lets face it.. trying to find out if Midnight sun will ever be.
    Please don’t be nasty.
If she was your mum, sister or friend, would you appear to go out of your way to find a site to say something needlessly derogatory.
