How Is This Shit Not Being Prosecuted???

Simon Cowell’s lawyers are warning UK newspapers not to harass their client after a tracking device was found attached to his Rolls Royce last week.

Law firm Carter-Ruck sent the warning letter to national newspapers on Friday after consulting with the presenter’s publicist, Max Clifford, who told MediaGuardian.co.uk that “enough is enough”.

According to Clifford, the letter pointed out that the use of a tracking device is illegal and could lead to prosecution.

He added that the identity of the journalist who allegedly attached the device is known to him and the individual concerned has been approached.

“We know who he is and we have marked his card and told him to never do anything like that again,” Clifford said.

“We have always played the game and we are not precious but this is way beyond anything acceptable. So Carter-Ruck has sent a letter out to everybody warning them about this and making clear that it is unacceptable,” he added.

“Simon has been putting up with this for seven years, with people approaching him at all hours and we know that we have got to have working relationships with the papers but within acceptable boundaries.”

Dude, if I were Simon Cowell, I would take that dude to court.

I’d also like to clarify that this appears to have been a tracking device, not a bug, as some other blogs have reported. So it’s not like they were listening in on conversations inside the car, they were just tracking its whereabouts. Still horrendous and totally inexcusable, but it’s not like we can look forward to hours and hours of Simon’s personal conversations showing up online.

I love Simon Cowell, because he never met a red carpet look that couldn’t be improved with a pack of smokes. Seriously, this dude walks the red carpet with a pack of cigarettes in his hand like 75% of the time. No one else has balls like that. I love it so much. Here’s the most recent incident, at the Music Industry Trust Awards last month.

  • I love Simon Cowell as well. However, another celebrity also has the balls to carry cigarettes to movie premieres: Joaquin Phoenix. At the last one he attended he even smoked one while walking and taking pictures. That is the definition of classy in my book. Too bad Joaquin he is retiring so we can’t enjoy his crazy antics anymore. :(

  • I like Simon too, he seems like a really cool guy who just doesn’t take shit from anyone. I don’t get what is with the smoking hate, he can do whatever he wants even if you don’t agree with it (and I don’t) it’s his life.

Ive also heard that hes pretty generous with charities (you never hear or read about him doing it in the tabloids). Leave SIMON ALOOONE! haha! I am kidding.

  • Why aren’t there stricter laws yet about what paparazzi can/can’t do? I have no understanding of why it’s OK for them to be 6 inches from a person, flashing flashbulbs and screaming at them and there are no laws protecting the people they harass. Sure, celebrities open themselves up to scrutiny when they become famous and have to accept that there will be lots of picture-taking and I enjoy a good picture of the hotties as much as anyone else, but the total disregard for even a shred of privacy or personal space has got to stop. Famous people may have to accept life in the limelight but that doesn’t mean they surrender all rights to privacy. Photogs are getting regularly punched and attacked by their subjects, it’s only a matter of time before one of them gets blown away by someone who’s had enough.
