So Britney Spears is going to trial. It’s because of that stupid incident two summers ago where she hit a parked car in a lot swarming with paparazzi and everyone realized that she was still driving on a Louisiana license even though she was a California resident. Britney refused to plead guilty and the case is going to trial, and they’re currently in jury selection and having a great deal of trouble with that process.
Britney’s lawyers are like “Dude, the state is only making a big deal out of this because she’s a celebrity,” and I have to agree with them there. I got pulled over in California with an Arizona drivers license a full year after having moved to LA. The cop was like “Did you know you needed to have a California drivers license” and I played dumb and was like “No! I thought as long as it was from a state in the U.S. I was okay!” and he was like, “Um, no. You need a California license. You should do that asap,” and that was the end of the discussion. No fine, no ticket (well, not for that part, at least). So I agree that it’s total bullshit that Brit-Brit actually has to go to court for this stuff.
surely the state of california has more important things to worry about than what state she has her license from…

Evidently Britney was driving without a valid license and left the scene of an accident, so unless she is contesting these facts, why doesn’t she just plead guilty and pay the fine? I don’t have anything against Britney, and in fact know next to nothing about her, but why is she wasting the taxpayers money with an unnecessary trial? Puzzled.

I actually really do think they are doing this because she is a celebrity. California usually doesn’t care that much about car stuff. I got pulled over with like no proof of insurance on me and my car hadn’t been registered for like 3 years. Oops. All they did was give me a fix-it ticket (OH! which, in the end, they didn’t even make me pay for. SERIOUSLY).
and I know PLENTY of people who move here and don’t get California licenses for a very long time, years even. what’s the big f*cking deal? I know Louisiana is lame and all, but it’s still a state.
seriously. I didn’t even know that you legally had to change your state ID when you moved. I just did it out of convenience (because I wanted to claim residency here).

When I moved from AZ to CA and got pulled over a sweet two years later, I got grilled, and cited for driving without a valid driver’s lisence. Lame.
