The 4th Annual GLSEN Respect Awards

That’s right everyone.  There are now awards for paying common respect to one another.  The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, the people responsible for this, “recognize individual and corporate leaders who have helped propel GLSEN’s efforts to ensure safe schools for all of America’s students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.”  I applaud the agenda and cannot understate its importance.

Since there are now awards for everything, I want my own “You didn’t run over any old ladies this week” phallic looking award thingy.  I mean, I’m showing respect to the elderly.  I deserve it.

  • ummm…i thought all gay awards were shaped as dildos so they could shove them up their asses? that one looks like it will take lots of lube and much concentration.

dude, i’m not even republican. you’re coming out of the closet and nobody even cares. take your sisters dress off and put your mcdonalds uniform on for christs sake before someone sees you.

  • Sadly, Wendie, when society is full of morons like censorthis, who have no respect for much of anything aside from their warped sense of humor, it becomes prudent to present awards for common decency if you want to impact change in a positive way. It’s cheaper than law suits for sure, and doesn’t inadvertently reward jerks for being jerks.

the fact is, some of us recognize bullshit for what it actually is and these bullshit awards are good examples. i’ve personally sponsored more lesbians in my time than most people and if you don’t believe me, come check out my porn collection. i’m sure that baldwin brother really deserved an award for common decency as did lance whatshisname. i’ve seen them at so many charitable events i wondered how they even had time to actually work. oh wait, they actually aren’t getting any work, are they? blackballed by morons, i’m sure. plus, if you’ll read wendies last paragraph you might get a hint of how she thinks it’s bullshit as well. i can’t understate the importance of this post enough.

  • I get it, cs, which is why I responded. As in, Wendie stated her opinion, and I disagreed. Guess you just can’t recognize a difference of opinion when it is civilly stated.

  • Wendie,
I know that awards shows have proliferated beyond any reasonable person’s tolerance level, but there has to be a better target here. Kids are being murdered in our schools because of prejudice. I can’t OVERstate the importance of this cause.

  • I’m with worried. Suicide is the number one cause of death among gay teens. Not only that, but there was just a 14 year old boy murdered by his classmate for being gay. All of us here are evolved enough to know accepting someone regardless of sexual orientation is common sense, but a lot of kids don’t know that.

I don’t know if these awards in particular are necessarily the best to mock when it comes to frivolous awards show. There has to be something more…frivolous? Like the reality tv show awards or anything that could possibly honor Hulk Hogan’s family.
