According to Variety, Columbia Pictures is looking to do another installment of the Ghostbusters franchise.
The scripts is already in the process of being written, and they’re hoping to bring back all the original Ghostbusters: Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.
But, as Variety points out, the reason the third installment didn’t get made in the early ’90s was that the original cast members were demanding too much money for the flick to be profitable for the studio, and that’s likely to be a problem this time around as well.
Still, though.
Ghostbusters was an integral part of my childhood, and part of me thinks it would be really cool to see a follow-up — especially after so much time has passed. Ghostbusters in the 21st century could be so, so awesome. But then a part of me would be really pissed if they fucked it up.
Sort of related: Did you guys hear they’re remaking Short Circuit? My Lord how I loved that film. If someone can just do *batteries not included again, I could die happy.

YES! They have to make this movie. If they do it with the original Ghostbusters, it would take quite a of effort to fuck it up.

Ghostbusters 3 would fucking kick ass. I’d so be at the theater for that. They could kill off Ernie Hudson though.. I never understood why they needed his boring ass character in those movies. He was great in Congo though!

how far out of touch are you people? Ghostbusters 3 is a video game. its due out in 09. all the writers are back for the story. everyone is back doing voices except morains and weaver. and it has been talked about alot. go…go to you google and type it in. game play footage is up.

When I was pg about four years ago people asked me if I had any cravings and while I had some standard food ones I also found myself utterly and incomprehensibly craving Ghostbusters. I had to watch it, there was nothing but to go and get the damn movie out and the only place in my town that stocked it was about a 45 minute drive away. As soon as I watched it I had the same calm I got when I was able to eat the food I usually craved.
Yes! They need to do *Batteries Not Included again.

portlander-read the variety article. it is indeed a 3rd movie. the video game is still in production, even though it was dropped for the time being, but the movie script is in the works. read before you make douchey comments.
Hell yea I’m all for a new installment of both movie franchises…but Bill Murray is kinda old…that proton pack might crush his wee little bones, and the guy that played Ben in Short Circuit always made me laugh…I think he plays Sayid in Lost now…Lol! And lord knows Dan Aykroyd hasnt had a good gig since Trading Places!

Loved those movies, Harold Ramis is a great writer, here’s one of my favorite exchanges, it’s like if McCain and Bush were running things:

Ah, but Rick Moranis won’t be in it. He refused to loan his voice to the new game because (you’ll love tgis) he doesn’t need the money. He says he made so much off the shrunk the kids movies he never has to work again. Weird, an actor who’s not greedy, damn Canadians ;-)
I’d LOVE to see this happen, but honestly I don’t think Bill Murray would do it. I think Dan Akroyd would do it though, I mean have you seen Celtic Pride? That guy’s in for anything.
Which do you think will be a greater disappointment to our dear childhood, Ghostbusters 3 or Short Circuit remake? I think its would be Short Circuit if they do something stupid like a CGI J-5.
