Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Jon Voight Has (Stupid) Opinions

Is there anything more wonderful than when totally unqualified celebrities weigh in on matter that are actually important? Jon “Angelina’s Dad” Voight may not be able to have a relationship with any of his six grandchildren, because of what a psychopath he’s been toward Angelina in the past, but that’s not going to stop him from spewing vile political nonsense in the Op-Ed pages of the Washington Post. I don’t talk politics on this site a lot, because I’m probably more informed about the exact shape of Lindsay Lohan’s labia than I am about politics (I can draw it from memory now!), but I have to say I think Mr. Voight crossed one hell of a line with this scathing, presumptuous epistolary. I mean, I don’t know much about Senator Obama’s platform, but I have a feeling he doesn’t plan to create a socialist America. Plus, any established actor who read the script for National Treasure 2 and thought to himself, “Yes, this is something I want to be a part of” clearly needs to rethink all of his opinions.

Some quotes:

Sen. Barack Obama has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger. We cannot say we are not affected by teachers who are militant and angry. We know too well that we become like them, and Mr. Obama will run this country in their mindset.

The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way. It seems to me that if Mr. Obama wins the presidential election, then Messrs. Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers and Pfleger will gain power for their need to demoralize this country and help create a socialist America.

If Mr. Obama had his way, he would have pulled our troops from Iraq years ago and initiated an unprecedented bloodbath, turning over that country to the barbarianism of our enemies. With what he has openly stated about his plans for our military, and his lack of understanding about the true nature of our enemies, there’s not a cell in my body that can accept the idea that Mr. Obama can keep us safe from the terrorists around the world, and from Iran, which is making great strides toward getting the atomic bomb. And while a misleading portrait of Mr. Obama is being perpetrated by a media controlled by the Democrats, the Obama camp has sent out people to attack the greatness of Sen. John McCain, whose suffering and courage in a Hanoi prison camp is an American legend.

This is a perilous time, and more than ever, the world needs a united and strong America. If, God forbid, we live to see Mr. Obama president, we will live through a socialist era that America has not seen before, and our country will be weakened in every way.

All together now: Shut up, Jon Voight!

  • And where is the untruth in any of that??? Go John!!! You just gained back a little of my respect. Just because you are a celebrity does not prohibit you from having and yes, sometimes spouting your opinions. God forbid this empty suit named Obama ever gains any more power than he already has.

  • Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but they shouldn’t be entitled to have their ridiculous opinions published in the Washington Post just because they’re famous. I have no problems with celebrities endorsing their particular candidate, but things like this are disgusting, no matter which side you’re on.

  • Well, he’s not been a psycho towards Angelina… look up the facts and get it right, she is diagnosised with borderline, and she has her obsessive periods with things as well as children which is typical for borderline persons. Period.

  • living behind the orange curtain like we do, we actually hear what mr voight has said quite a bit from others. i think a lot of people actually share his opinions, which he is certainly entitled to have and express. god bless america – we don’t have to read them.

it’s interesting though, i’ve seen a lot more obama stickers in republican land than i ever saw for kerry or gore in previous elections.

i’m an undecided registered independent and neither candidate flips my skirt. mc cain seems like same old same old and obama is a little too unknown- his experience level reminds me of bush’s. not much really. at least he is intelligent though.

i’ve been reserving judgment to see who they will pick for the vp candidates. i so would have voted for hillary. she is scary enough to run the country. sigh.

  • i am loving john more. it’s totally fine for all the liberal’s to” bush bash” all day long, but as soon as someone says something not positive about one of them, heaven forbid!

  • I agree with what Mr. Voight said. Matter of fact, it’s the most intelligent thing I’ve ever heard him say. And no, I am not a republican. I am for who is best for the job and who knows and understands how important the military is.

  • i was okay with it until “the greatness of sen. john mccain.”

i know words are important, beet, but it kinda made me barf in my mouth a bit. just the way he said it.

  • All I know is that if Obama gets elected, taxes are going to go thru the roof!!! That’s what my vote will be based on this year.

  • I don’t recall there being much protest when multiple celebrities have shown their support for Obama or many other liberal causes. But when someone indicates their support for conservative causes, all of a sudden there are demands that celebrities should keep their mouths shut.

I may not agree completely with Voight but it’s good to know that not everyone is drinking Obama’s Kool-Aid.

  • What I find interesting in his rant is the fear under his message. That because Obama is black, he’ll cater to these “angry & militant” black leaders. Really? Are you fucking kidding me? Has Voight listened to anything Obama has said? He & McCain will both cater to the highest bidder, which we all know is NOT going to be any people of color. That’s what pisses me off. Say what you will about either candidates, I don’t like them both, but don’t say it out of ignorance about racial issues.

  • ok i dont know about all of that, but i do agree with the whole we should be scared because both McCain and Obama will screw us over in one way or the other… McCain wants to continue a war that is putting our country further and further in debt, and his medical care sucks ass. Obama however is a bit too liberal on the fact of making it really easy for illegal immigrants to lay anchor here, and our taxes get to pay for their childrens school and healthcare, and their time in jail. America is no longer a melting pot, because it seems like 75% of the population is hispanic, and sorry but thats not right. This is not The United States of Mexico. Everyone should have a right to be here, but at some point maybe you should stop hopping the border and fix your own country.. Thanks!

  • thats the most retarded shit ive ever heard.
he sounds like some of the guys who have midnight talk radio shows on AM stations in texas

  • This was published in the Washington Times, not the Washington Post. The Washington Post would never print this.

    You should make a correction.

  • stop hopping the border and fix your own country is a good option for America’s new president to

  • One more celebrity spouting off and sounding like an idiot. The difference is Republican’s use fear and Democrat’s use hope to try and reach people. If your fear is about money and taxes look at the facts- where is our debt? Where was it before GWB? Where is it now? HOLY CRAP GEORGE, no wonder your own dad doesn’t let you handle money either!!

  • Meerkat, lala,Deb,imustsay and Snowdevil. All ignorant, misinformed and moronic tools.
Read, learn and understand facts before you open your mouths in public. Your commentary just exposes your sheer stupidity. You are wasting all of our air. Get your shit together, or give it back. You’re doing nothing for civilization by being alive at this point. Seriously. If you can’t see the blatant schmuckery of voight’s commentary, you are helpless. Expressing your opinion is fine and dandy. This is not what’s happened here. If you can’t see that, please just stop fuckin’ ur favorite family member and walk slowly into the deep blue sea.

    Fuck!

  • JohnsNoLongerHere –

Your post is absolutely hilarious!! I love how you exhort others to read and learn and then you write a post that contains fragments (not sentences), misspellings and curse words, not to mention demands for others to kill themselves.

    You’ve convinced me: you’re a genius.

    d.

  • I totally agree with what Jon is saying. If people would actually take the time to research what he and Michelle are about, where they came from, etc.. they will see the real Obama. I guarantee a lot of people only go by what they see on TV, not actual research and finding out why they truly stand for!

  • According to Snopes.com, Princeton was requested to put a ‘restriction’ on distribution
of any copies of the thesis of Michelle Obama (a/k/a/ Michelle laVaughn Robinson) saying
it could not be made available until November 5, 2008 but when it was published on a
political website they decided they would lift the restriction.
    http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/thesis.asp
Subj: Thesis – Michele Obama aka Michelle LaVaughn Robinson
    OBAMA’S MILITANT RACISM REVEALED

In her senior thesis at Princeton, Michele Obama, the wife of Barack Obama
stated that America was a nation founded on ‘crime and hatred’.
Moreover, she stated that whites in America were ‘ineradicably racist’. The
1985 thesis, titled ‘Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community’ was
written under her maiden name, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson.
Michelle Obama stated in her thesis that to ‘Whites at Princeton , it often
seems as if, to them, she will always be Black first…’ However, it was reported
by a fellow black classmate, ‘If those ‘Whites at Princeton ‘ really saw Michelle
as one who always would ‘be Black first,’ it seems that she gave them that
    impression’.
Most alarming is Michele Obama’s use of the terms ‘separationist’ and
‘integrationist’ when describing the views of black people.
Mrs. Obama clearly identifies herself with a ‘separationist’ view of race.
‘By actually working with the Black lower class or within their communities as
a result of their ideologies, a separationist may better understand the desperation
of their situation and feel more hopeless about a resolution as opposed to an
integrationist who is ignorant to their plight.’
Obama writes that the path she chose by attending Princeton would likely lead to
her ‘further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure
that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full
    participant.’
Michele Obama clearly has a chip on her shoulder.
Not only does she see separate black and white societies in America , but
she elevates black over white in her world.

Here is another passage that is uncomfortable and ominous in meaning:
‘There was no doubt in my mind that as a member of the black
community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize
all of my present and future resources to benefit the black
    community first and foremost.’
What is Michelle Obama planning to do with her future resources if she’s first
lady that will elevate black over white in America ?
The following passage appears to be a call to arms for affirmative action
policies that could be the hallmark of an Obama administration.
‘Predominately white universities like Princeton are socially and academically
designed to cater to the needs of the white students comprising the bulk of
    their enrollments.’

The conclusion of her thesis is alarming.
Michelle Obama’s poll of black alumni concludes that other black students
at Princeton do not share her obsession with blackness. But rather than
celebrate, she is horrified that black alumni identify with our common
American culture more than they value the color of their skin. ‘I hoped that
these findings would help me conclude that despite the high degree of
identification with whites as a result of the educational and occupational
path that black Princeton alumni follow, the alumni would still maintain a
certain level of identification with the black community. However, these
findings do not support this possibility.’
Is it no wonder that most black alumni ignored her racist questionnaire?
Only 89 students responded out of 400 who were asked for input.
Michelle Obama does not look into a crowd of Obama supporters and see
Americans. She sees black people and white people eternally conflicted
    with one another.
The thesis provides a trove of Mrs. Obama’s thoughts and
world view seen through a race-based prism. This is a very
divisive view for a potential first lady that would do untold
damage to race relations in this country in a Barack Obama
    administration.

Michelle Obama’s intellectually refined racism should give all
    Americans pause for deep concern.
Now maybe she’s changed, but she sure sounds like someone with an axe to
grind with America . Will the press let Michelle get a free pass over her obviously
racist comment about American whites? I am sure that it will.
PS: We paid for her scholarship.

  • Wow. I thought for sure I’d see all these posts bashing Mr. V and supporting the Messiah Obama – I’m pleasantly surprised.

Do research the candidates. Do not join the masses who are being blinded by the promise of ‘change’ – unless you truly truly believe that he can make a change for the better. Everything I’ve heard and read makes me think this ‘change’ is going to destroy our country.

My opinion. Which, like Mr. V, I get to have in America. (as of now, anyway)

  • Please compare the way that JohnsNoLongerHere argues his point, compared to the rational thought behind those who support Voight’s opinion. There’s a marked difference.

    Coincidence? I think not. ;)

  • One thing I would like to point out is that people are demanding universal health care but who will pay for this? I agree something needs to be done to lower the price of insurance we cannot just give free healthcare. Someone has to pay and it is always the middle class by way of higher taxes

  • I love this man; I wish I could sit and talk to him, he has the whole Obama thing nailed; I want to know one accomplishment Obama has done since making big $$ as a congressman; no one wants to say anything except this great American – Jon Voight. It’s like he’s family.

And I’m still waiting, someone tell me 1 thing Obama has done as a Senator, making, what $200K on our dime? 1 thing, tell me. Jon Voight is God!

  • Leaving politics out, what is different from these comments than what we hear from the other Hollywood blowhards like: George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Moore, Barbara Streisand… His opinions, and used his celebrity status to let them out. Just like the rest of them.

  • I love how he calls Obama militant and angry, yet McCain comes from a military family, is obsessed with ushering us into world war three, and has a long history of open misogyny that the main stream press has for some reason ignored. Im sorry, I will never support a candidate who has made jokes about rape and brutality against women and who verbally abuses his own wife. Whom he had an affair with to marry in the first place.

  • Jon Voight makes a lot of accusations and wild characterizations of Obama while doing little to back them up. He doesn’t write anything very well thought out or that you can at least “follow”. There isn’t any logic or reasoning. Is that why it appeals to you Republicans so much? Because you can’t recognize illogical thinking because you’re too busy letting the mainstream press do your thinking for you?

  • Wow! What a bunch of retards on this site. Sounds as if most have been educated by Rush Limberger and Bilge O’Reilly. Fact is that NEITHER one of these guys will make a dent in the corporatharacy that used to be called, America. Everything is now under the control of big business – that includes practically every politician, who’s primary “job” is usually, re-election. I can’t believe there are idiots here who cite “higher taxes” and “immigration” as problems for the future. For at least six full years the God fearin’, Jesus lovin’ Republican Party had political control of every governmental entity there is … and did nothing to address these issues. I mean, after all, isn’t war and a cheap source of labor, good for “bidness”? Bottom line, it won’t really matter who’s elected President; he’ll be the property of those who own him.

  • No Way!…I think he hit the nail on the head!..
*Note to Sylvia Cat: come down off your high horse and get over yourself already!

  • LOL @ Holly. If anyone lets the mainstream press do their thinking for them, it is the Obama supporters!!! LOL LOL LOL.

  • I was not going to comment on this topic but after reading “Christina’s” exposition on Michelle Obama’s Thesis (who, I remind you, is NOT running for office)– I could not let this go…

    Christina,
You are so sad and sickening. First and foremost, as aforementioned, Michelle Obama is not running for presidency – Sen. Barack Obama is, so why her opinion and character is being scrutinized is beyond me. I have to believe that just like Mr. Voight, you are under the asinine-assumption that Mrs. Obama and all the ‘militant’ people Sen. Obama allegedly have associated with are a direct reflection of his beliefs. Thus implying he does not have a brain of his own. Are you implying he is as ignorant as George W? HOW UTTERLY DISGRACFUL!! Secondly, do you not realize that for centuries, Blacks and minorities alike had/have been demoralized and repressed by ‘white America’?!?! Funny how now the (in your fiery-red-eyes, ONLY) tables just MIGHT be turned on people such as yourself, you are frighten and threatened. Can’t take a dose of your own medicine, can you!?!?! Lastly, who cares about who paid for her education – it clearly wasn’t you! The fact that she took the opportunities that may not have otherwise been available to her and parlayed it into a wonderful career should be settling enough for anyone – isn’t that what American is built on?!?! Can you say the same for yourself – probably not! In my humble opinion, it’s about time Blacks get a fair chance at power, after all America did steal this land from the minority race and have ever since oppressed them!! Christina you should be disgraced by your name as per your ignorance and stupidity, there is NOTHING Christ about you!!!!!!!!!!!!

    TEAM OBAMA!!

  • John Voight just scored major points. So many people are on the “change train” and fail to look at the true TRAIN WRECK that is happening to our country and will happen if Barack HUSSEIN Obama is elected. Thank you Jon Voight and I hope our media will continue to report this….wait, media won’t report this since it is TRUE and negative against their Hero, Obama.

    Vote any one but OBAMA!
    NOBAMA

  • I don’t agree with Jon Voight, and I’m voting for Obama, but Voight’s opinions didn’t sound stupid, or even presumptuous, to me. They sounded both thoughtful and sincere. One problem with what he’s saying, though, is that he’s judging both men on their past actions–don’t vote for Obama because of who his teachers were, do vote for McCain because he spent time as a POW. What both men are like now is more important than their past.

  • The only thing better than when “totally unqualified celebrities weigh in on matter that are actually important? ” is when totally unqualified gossip bloggers decide to do the same.

Glad to see the support for Voight’s right to an opinion in the comments.

Also, Obama is an empty pile of rhetoric and feel-goodisms. I don’t really understand it when someone defends him as though they were personally attacked. He has done nothing as a state senator, he will be a do-nothing US Senator (if he ever shows up for the job for which he was elected), and if he gets elected President, will accomplish nothing. He’s a good speech and a nice suit. Pretending Obama has some moral or substantial superiority to John McCain is laughable at best.

McCain is a backstabbing, say-anything douche and Obama will sell you a used car if given half a chance. Defending either of them with passion is not the best use of one’s time.

  • @ RhymesWithSilver
What, you don’t remember that Smith’s song, “Barbarianism Begins at Home”?
    That was a classic!

  • what i generally love about this site is that people can generally disagree with one another and with beet in a respectful way. let’s try and keep it that way.

imho, ALL politicians are whores sold to the highest bidder. they should all have to wear labels like race car drivers so that we would have a quick visual reference for what we were buying.

so the main question for me is: do i want to continue to be screwed by corporate america, specifically oil companies, for the next 4 – 8 years? OR do i prefer to be taxed out the wazoo by the federal government for the same time period. either way, i’m sure i’ll pay.

My goal is to try and figure out which slut will cost me less. I’m always looking for a bargain.

I enoy reading your commentary. Thanks for keeping me away from work and my children!

  • To JohnsNoLongerHere….cute comments, honey. But you are clearly NOT in a tax bracket where you have to worry about such things. I suspect you’ll be in the receiving end of the tax benefit if Obama gets elected, not the giving.

  • Meerkat : Suck my left nut you irrelevant little schmuck.

lala: Sweetness, if you only knew who I was or what I make…….
Your comments kind of prove my point about the level of fucktard on this board today. You all live to break-out the ol’ “they raise axes” angle. If you take a moment to read something not written by Sean Hannity here and there, you’ll notice the economic mess your elected douchebags keep leaving the country in when they’re finally driven out. Is there still a human being left that hasn’t accepted that our current figure-head’s administration has put us deep in the shitter?? Really? Seriously. C’mon now.

    d. : Spelling and grammar angle? Really? That’s how you’re going to chime in? That’s your snap-back? You silly little thing. You just sit back and wait ’til you’re a big, healthy capital letter!

  • JohnsNoLongerHere –

John – listen: do yourself a favor and learn how to make your point in a coherent fashion and without vulgarity. I’m serious. You make yourself sound very low class and thoughtless. I’m fairly confident that you are desperate to appear otherwise.

    d.

P.S. And yes, you DO need to mind your spelling.

  • d.
Um, first, fuck off you dirty whore.
Second, your perception is quite retarded if you got the impression that I’ve been concerned w/how I come off. Duh. Go back and re-read my flowing words. You’ll see I was actually insulting a person or two.
Again. Scurry off you little rascal. Daddy needs a warm place to put his……..ahem….hand.

  • JohnsNoLongerHere:

Please – keep writing. You’re just highlighting all the reasons why lucid Americans have no interest in an Obama presidency.

For those who are interested, take a look at this site:

    http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/07/021127.php

Lots of people like to think that the Hollywood crowd is open-minded and welcoming of diverse thought. What is happening to these actors and artists is just as much of a shame as the blacklist that happened in the 1950s.

    Take care, all.

  • d:
interesting article. thanks for including the link.

i graduated from oberlin college and found that censorship was given credence by the term politically correct or it’s negative as in: you can’t say that, it’s “politically incorrect.” it was politicaly incorrect of mr voight to point out what he views as problems with obama’s campaign. he should be silenced…. really? wow, not according to my consititution. the same way it was politically correct to go along with the bush administration’s war in iraq after 9/11, god forbid we question the authority of the government. (my nephew will be going on his 4th tour as an army ranger in september, so we frequently question mr bush around here.)

there are assholes on both sides and they are remarkably similar in almost every personality characteristic, only their ideology is changed. the extremes of both sides seem to embrace the first amendment only if it is convenient.

democrat or republican, i’ve never understood why so many people are afraid to actually stop, listen and absorb another person’s point of view. are your beliefs really so fragile that they can’t be questioned? do you have nothing to learn from anyone else? do you really know it all?

obama isn’t the next great hope of the nation. he is a man and only a man. granted a man with a tremendous p.r. machine. he is selling “change because we can and i’m not sure exactly what we’ll change into, but could it really be worse than what we’ve got now?”

mccain isn’t the anti-christ or a sainted war veteran. he too is only a man with nowhere near the pr machine of his counterpart. he is selling “if it’s not broken, and i don’t think it is, let’s not fix it. let’s all stay comfortable in our insulated bubble, just like we like it.”

the question is, what load of bs will you buy in november? will it be continued higher gas prices or higher taxes, because the one thing i think we can all agree upon is that we’ll all have to pay in the end.

  • It is refreshing to hear comments like this from someone that has been involved in Hollywoood entertainment for several decades. It is so very different from the trite and phony platitudes that usually dribbles out of the mouths of the people that think they have some moral authority and that people that disagree with them are ignorant or uninformed. Not to be too cynical, all politicians say what they think will get them elected and right or wrong is not of much importance. Democrats and Republicans alike. But if anyone believes that the change that Obama is proposing is in line with the ideals, beliefs, morals and economic system that has made this country, with all its warts, flaws, and screw ups, the greatest experiment and success in the history of the world to this point. Following an empty suit is not the way to go.

  • I agree 100% with JLM!! I applaud Jon Voight, he is one Hollywood personality who has done his homework and knows what he is talking about!!!! Everyone should “really” take the time to research Obama and what he is all about, you will see, that if he wins the election, our country is in A LOT OF TROUBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    S

  • By the way Osama Obama is not black!! He’s 50/50, so I can say he’s white. Who cares anyway. I\m from Chicago and he hasnt done dick there!! Rev Wright is not a racist either! We just watched sound bites! lol

  • You people are brain washed Right Wing idiots!
Now that Obama is in the White House our country is finally heading in the proper direction people around the world love him and you conservative Right Wing nut jobs can’t stand it!

You Repubs can go F#$ck yourselves

    Kent
