Today's Evil Beet Gossip

But Some of My Best Friends Are Black!

After Denise Richards “leaked” some voicemail messages from Charlie Sheen, including one where he calls her the N-word (the transcript is after the jump), Sheen has released this apology:

“I deeply apologize by my choice of words to all I have obviously offended; especially to Tony Todd, an African-American, who was my best man at my first two weddings.”

Sheen added, however, that “three and one-half years later, the reasons that caused the anger and frustration displayed on that voice mail continue to be manifested on a daily basis” because “my children did not show up today for a custodial visit without explanation.”

Sheesh.

I think they both kind of suck (I’m definitely always annoyed by anyone who uses the “some of my best friends are black” defense against using racial slurs in a hateful manner, although I don’t think Charlie Sheen is racist), but I still think Denise sucks harder.

Transcript of the voicemail from Sheen is after the jump. Warning: it’s offensive.

I hope I never fucking talk to you again you fucking cunt. Fuck you. You’re a coward and a liar and a fucking nigger alright, so fuck you.

  • I think that the manner he uses the word, is not meant to be racial at all. He may actually be using the correct definition of it here. It is still offensive, but you know, maybe not as much as the other “meaning”.

  • I have never cared less about an actor than I do Charlie Sheen, but Denise Richards just pisses me off. She’s pretty much talent-less, she has a very weird face, and she’s constantly torturing her children by dragging them around on red carpets or in front of the paparazzi just so she can feel relevant. Charlie Sheen, I’m hardcore annoyed at you for using that word, but I don’t really blame you for your anger. Good on you getting away from her, man.

  • This is so stupid. I don’t care about people’s voicemails to their horrible exes. Denise needs to go away.

  • I don’t think he’s a racist but really I don’t know. I think it’s odd that he would use THAT word to show HOW angry he is.

  • I think we need to put Charlie and Denise in a fight cage, and let them duke it out – winner takes all. The collateral damage of their married has gotten unreal.

  • Both losers. Her kids really do seem to hate the spotlight, sad. He’s a dirty whoremonger and she’s a dirty whore…not to be mean or anything.

  • The ‘N’ word was originally used to describe itinerant irish workers in the united kingdom. it originally meant anyone of a low social standing and background. get over it people.

  • He’s a useless idiot no matter what words he uses. And she’s stupid for putting up with verbal abuse. Nuff said.

  • I agree with the limey. N*gger doesn’t always refer to negroes. I’m sure the fine person that Charlie Sheen is would never use it as a dis to one of the brothers.

  • It’s just an insult–not a racial slur. Just like calling someone a whore when they’re not a prostitute. What difference does it make? She’s pathetic. I actually have much more respect for Charlie than I do her. She’s a psycho and I hate that she drags her kids around all the time like they’re an accessory.

  • Geez, if you were just called a a piece of shit fucking liar cunt coward, wouldn’t the ‘n’ word be kind of a high point?

  • Jamie from the UK & Antisocialite: You are both dumb! Either way it goes, that word has an extremely negative connotation so stop trying to downgrade it.

  • ok, how can this not be racist? he’s using it as an insult, as in yr a liar = bad, yr a pig = bad. yr a ni**er = horrible. why do white people have a hard time understanding that?

  • my thing is….Denise is’nt black.
so why call her that word?

and Jamie from the UK your slow as hell.
either way that word is harsh.
no matter how much you try to make it seem like its not.

  • i have been known to say such words as the “n” word and the “f” word when stubbing my toe for example. i am neither a racist or a “homophobe”. my toes are white, and (mostly) straight. these are curse words. jeez, its not like he said “denise you n*****, yes i am saying you are indeed a person of color whom i have ignorant prejudice against and thats why i’m calling you this…”
and when someone says you m-er f-ing b-word i don’t see peta getting all bent. or the society against mothers who have sex or whatever.

  • Jamie from the UK and Joan, you two disgust me as much as the ‘N’ word and Charlie Sheen! It’s already been established that it is used as an insult so I will not belabor that any further. However, my comment to the two aforementioned morons is this — African Americans had been beaten, oppressed and unjustly treated for centuries. The ‘N’ carries a legacy of negative connotations to it, so how anyone could use that word to describe a person or as a profanity is so beyond my comprehension. In that same vein, there is absolutely no comparing being called a cunt, b!itch or any or obscenity to being called a N!gger. If you are going to compare, just make it a true apple-to-apple comparison. If an anti-semitic slur was yelled out, I’m sure Jewish people would be in outrage. Moreover, Charlie Sheen would be completely black-listed especially since Hollywood is run by Jews!

  • If the N word is so bad and is so insulting to the Af-Am community why do they use the word constantly when referring to each other in real life, film and song? I think they have successfully neutralized the word as they did a generation ago, by using the word ‘black’ to describe their beauty and their culture.

As all the films that come out of Hollywood attest to, the American culture has disintegrated to and is populated by undereducated masses who can only utter 4 or 5 letter words. And if we look like an Empire in decline and the fall is greeted gleefully by an expectant rest of the world, who can blame them?

After tuning into these pages often I have to surmise that Hollywood and celebrity in general are populated by a bunch of no talent low-lifes on all sides. Pigs in tuxedos and ball gowns. Nicole Ritchie… what does she do? She is always here. Lindsay Lowen drinks and has lunch? What else does she do? And whats-her name-Willis… what does she do? I could go on and on.

Perhaps little Leo is the only one with any class, but he is still a pup and will be spoiled rotten just like all celebrity kids, ride on his mother’s fame and have nothing to bring to the party himself like so many of the people aggrandized in these pages. I suppose we will have to read long tomes of his rehab and back sliding ad nausium…. I hope he doesn’t wreck the car and hospitalize a friend…. It all makes me want to puke sometimes…. Why am I not like the others who actually enjoy this….

Oh…. anger peppered with curses is just a mark of a person who can not articulate his or her true feelings…. eatshitmuthafurkers

  • Charlie Sheen is an ignorant douchebag! He insulted the entire African-American community. He forgets that he is not even fully white. He has Hispanic blood very close in his bloodline. Part of his family is from Spain. In case he was thinking that he’s better than everyone because he is “white” he is wrong. Some might say that he is just another “Spic”. How would he like being called that?

  • Very interesting. I never heard about this at the time, but the comments are eye-opening. Some people here seem to think that it’s ok for a white person to use ‘******’ as an insult, or bad, but not racist. Other people think its ok because Denise Richards is such a horrible person, and he called her other names at the same time.

I think he was wise to apologise, even though it would be better if he had something more insightful and less clichéd to say than ‘but some of my best friends are black!’. Maybe white people think that necessarily means something, but worldwide, black people know better.
