Tom Cruise vs. Drew Pinsky: Bring It On!

It’s war!

Dr. Drew Pinsky is out talking shit about Tom Cruise. Dr. Drew had this to say to Playboy:

A lot of people in the public eye who behave strangely have mental illness we can learn from, and much of it is based on childhood trauma, without a doubt. Take a guy like Tom Cruise. Why would somebody be drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology? To me, that’s a function of a very deep emptiness and suggests serious neglect in childhood – maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect.

In response, Tom issued a statement through his lawyer, calling Pinsky an “unqualified television performer who is obviously just looking for notoriety,” adding, “The last time we heard garbage like this was from Joseph Goebbels.” (Goebbels was a Nazi propagandist.)

Ugh. While there’s certainly no basis for calling Dr. Drew a Nazi, I feel like Drew crossed a line talking shit about Tom like that. I’m developing less and less respect for Dr. Drew daily. I’ve already spoken at length about how much bullshit I feel like Celebrity Rehab is. Sure, it makes great TV, but it’s not at all healthy for the participants, IMHO, and for Dr. Drew, a certified “addictionologist” to play such an active role in it pisses me off. And for a professional to be speaking out so bluntly about someone he’s never actually treated is, well, really unprofessional. It’s one thing for me to sit here from my couch, in my pajamas, spouting off my opinions, because everyone knows I have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about. Dr. Drew brings actual credentials to the table, and as such he needs to watch his mouth. I’d be pissed off, too, if I were Tom. I don’t agree with the Goebbels comparison, but I agree with everything else about his statement.

  • Frankly it’s about time Tom had to feel the pain. He was very quick to mouth off about Brooke Shields and post natal depression, about children taking ritalin, about the ‘evils’ of psychiatry and so on. He obviously feels qualified to make very controversial comments about other people’s lives, it’s a pity he can’t take it on board himself.

  • trollydolly

It’s true that Tom Cruise has made a lot of controversial and unnecessary comments and that he doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about. But he’s just an actor. Everyone knows he’s not qualified. Dr Drew is actually a doctor. It’s not very ethical for a professional to be releasing that kind of statement about anyone, particularly someone he doesn’t even treat. It just makes it seem like he wants to sound important and get attention.

  • I’m with Dr. Drew on this one. Tom definitely suffers from some type of mental disorder. He’s out there in his own universe

  • Dr. Drew stepped over the line, but Cruise comparing him to Goebbels kind of makes Drew’s point for him. Likening a TV psychologist to a major Nazi is a sign of mental derangement in my book.

  • Any self respecting Jew would be outraged that Cruise via his whore would trivialize nazism and the holocaust so flippantly over a personal attack.

    mmmmmhmmmmmm…

  • At least Dr. Drew is not afraid to stand up to the “Scientology Group”. tommy may have won this battle, but he’s lost the war.

  • I was going back & forth trying to decide what I think about this, then I read cj’s comment & I agree completly.

  • i agree dr drew is out of line. he is getting too comfortable in the public eye.

dr drew should ask dr phil what happens when you diagnose somebody who has not offered themselves to you for diagnosis.

  • Dr. Drew is a certified professional so I think he is within his professional boundaries to make that statement. I also agree with him 100%. Cruise is such a ‘has been’ and is now just a FREAK. Scientology is a cult designed by a science fiction writer. And to compare Dr. Drew to a Nazi? Tom needs some help. Don’t shout the man down! Amen Dr. Drew!

  • Wow! hats off to Trolly Dolly and Alan. Tom should stop making comments on other people conditions.
No one on earth believes that Drew Pinsky is qualified to soil, let alone people! Drew was well out of order calling out Tommy Girl behing his back. May Mischa will hit Drew Pinsky with her car, once she is behind the wheel again.

  • Is he wearing bronzer?? And I agree that he really needs a new hair style. Well, a new lot of things.

  • i hate when people wear sunglasses indoors. it’s just the epitome of douchiness.

  • I really miss “creamin my jeans” over pics of him back in the 80’s. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

  • When you act nuts publicly people, profession and lay people will discuss. I don’t think other than a few $cientologists anyone thinks Tom’s normal. Dulusional, saving the world… ahem. He’s a public figure who acted the fool and can’t sue Dr Drew, but calling a Jewish doctor, a Nazi is pretty stinking low.

My hat off to his lawyer for being a complete ass.

  • Tom Cruise, and all other scientologists, are worthless, cocksucking boils on the ass of society, and someday I hope they all get lanced.

  • Dr. Drew stepped over the line if he is a licensed doctor. Did he ever
meet or even talk to Tom Cruise? Some of the posters remarks on
this forum are CHILDISH, rude and downright mean spirited.

  • i agree with barry 100%. Dr. drew crossed the line period point blank. and to all that say cruise deserved it for criticizing brooke there is a big difference–cruise is a lay person and dr drew is a supposed professional. dr drew is the epitome of what is wrong with society today–profiting off of other peoples misery at any cost. and to all the men and women dissing cruise–yeah must suck to be him. hundreds of millions of dollars–beautiful wife–beautiful kids–damn what a loser. hahahahahaha and by the way joan– r u a gay ugly guy or a gay ugly gurl. its hard to tell in your pic. hahahahahaha

  • I think what most people don’t understand about the field of psychology, and especially with someone with as much exprience as Dr.Drew, is that you don’t really need to “get to know” somebody to make basic clinical/professional conclusions based on their behaviors. The point Dr. Drew was getting at, was that behaviors Cruise is engaged in (like being a member of a group with extremist viewpoints like scientology) is a reflection of his desire to belong to something, to fulfill some sort of emptiness or abandonment he has previously felt ( as Drew stated, childhood trauma is the most common place for illnesses to stem). I do not think Dr.Drew’s intentions were malicious towards Cruise, he was simply using him an an example to explain the frequency of mental illness in our society, and especially persons of celebrity status. Dr.Drew has done lots of research and written at least one book that I know of about how famous people or those drawn to Hollywood are often narcissistic. I agree with the other people who have already posted, Tom Cruise is very quick to throw names and judgments around, with no education or credibility. Dr.Drew is highly qualified and experienced, and he has helped a countless amount of individuals with their battles in substance abuse issues. His knowledge in the field of psychology will only help us to better understand the functions of our own minds.

  • This is such a well known thing among the gay world, I am surprised that it has not been published yet.
Drew Pinsky is even more closeted than Tom, except he has a lot more witnesses over the years to prove it.
Drew is what is called a muscle queen; has worked out in college, and later in private gyms until camera phones came out to reveal his “shortcomings”…he is hung average and met most of his tricks in gyms. The gay world is like an instant hotline where celebrities are concerned. There are not many stories that cannot be substatiated especially when descriptions of moles in private places, bent cocks, and also, his body language alone is a dead giveaway on the old talk show where it was guys only. Two of them “swing” but none of them were important to out.

  • You can learn alot about someone by their reactions and emotional outbursts to stimulus. In fact, this is the sign they are unhealthy.

Healthy people tend to feel on average good, and so do not generally get ugly at the drop of a hat, because they inherently feel fine. People with chaos and pain in their pasts on the other hand naturally feel overall worse at any given time, and when subjected to a negative comment will have a tendancy to overreact and get ugly, as the issue is hitting nerve of some sort.

I find it interesting how Tom Cruise not only responded rather than let it go, he further got very defensive with his comment, and reacted with a mean statement of his own, going so far as to attack Dr Drew and liken him to a nazi propagandist. Yikes. Your internal wiring just proved Dr Drew’s point Tom. How about a little therapy instead of all this nutty path you’re on.

  • I have been listening to Dr. Drew Pinsky for almost 20 years and he is right95% of the time. You do not have to treat a patient to know what is wrong with them. Drew and Adam have been right about almost all the callers by asking just a few questions. They can almost always even guess what age and by whom the callers were molested by. Hell, Adam can even guess what exact occupation their boyfriends or husbands have most of the time, errie! It’s called “The Polar bear Theory”, read about in their first book! Being a former “Scientologist”(forced into it by my dad) I can attest that Dr. Drew is 100% on the mark about this cult!

  • This Drew idiot is making a lot of money from very evil sources. Be careful!Drew! God is watching you!
In the end the TRUTH will be revealed about who is controlling YOU!
You’re busy with Charlie Sheen now aren’t you. I wonder why? Humanity are no longer fools! They are waking up BIG TIME!Don’t worry this is not physical threat! This is making it clear that good will win in the end and then I wonder where you will be. I don’t believe in Pshycoligists anyway. People! go get the Documentary “Making a Killing!” It will wake you up to who makes the money!

  • Vic, you need to get on some medication for your paranoia, and then read up on what insurance is doing to the medical/psych field. Nothing close to what you are trying to imply.

Typo: kindle keeps changing spelling of name of recepient.
