Tatum O’Neal is Grateful for Crack Bust

After getting busted for buying crack on the streets of NY, recovering actress Tatum O’Neal says she’s actually pleased about the arrest. She claims she hasn’t actually relapsed — thanks to the cops.

“I’m still sober!” she says. “Just when I was about to change that and wreck my life, the cops came and saved me! I was saved by the bell, by the guys in the Seventh Precinct.”

Tatum explains her predicament further: “There’s no excuse for what I did. I lost my Scottish terrier, Lena, [three weeks ago]. That seemed to set me off. She got old. She got cancer. She was the fabric of our family. We had to let her go to heaven. My daughter and I had to put her down. It was too horrible for words. I couldn’t get out of it. I was going to my psychiatrist. I was doing everything I could do. I have the disease of alcoholism. It’s lifelong. I treat it every day by going to my 12-step program.”

I don’t know if I believe her or if I just want to believe her about this, but I certainly hope she gets better and stays healthy. I’m rooting for her. At least she’s handling this with some measure of honesty, grace and humility. Much better than the Gary Dourdan “the drugs were for my friends!” excuse.

  • i only hope is that one day…i too can be saved by the bell.

It seems to have such a positive influence on peoples lives (sans Jesse ofcourse…she is just a stripper).

  • That’s interesting…when she got arrested, she was “doing research for a role” as a “junke.”

  • I think they should do a drug test on her to see if she had relapsed. A hair folicle test can go back many months. I believe her if I see scientific evidence that she has not relapsed. Not that I really care.

  • I believe the story about the dog’s death setting her off but jeez, she’s surely paid some high dollar shrinks over the years and is regularly 12 steppin’ too and yet she hasn’t learned anything more about coping skills than trying to score some crack? I feel sorry for her for being so naive. A REAL crackhead would never get ripped off by psychiatrists like that.

  • I linked to this because you have no idea how her bullshit dead dog story pissesd me off. I’ve lost so much in the last month, so much. This woman needs to go to jail. Period.

  • More spin and bullshit. First she was just doing research and now she is lucky because the cops saved her from doing drugs. Of course she didn’t have any before.

Lets see her pee in a cup.

  • She is wandering the streets of NY to buy crack, why? That is such a
Nasty addicting drug, why not call someone up for a Valium.

My cat died and I loved her with all my heart but I didn’t run out and say, ohh ohh let me buy some drugs, hell I can’t cope with the death of a cat!
    What a fuck nut.

She does need to do some service to NY 90 days of working with drug addicts.
Give her an eye how the flip side lives, let’s just toss all
our gifts right out the door…Because of her dead dog, go buy a new dog to love buy a couple. They need homes, work at the Pound!

    Shame on you!

  • this one`s been a serious f*ck-up from the beginning!
    …and…..STILL at it!! sheesh!!

  • I feel bad for her. I have a Scottish Terrier too and I love her to pieces. I know how hard it is to lose a treasured pet. I hope she pulls it together and gets her life back on track.
