Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Very Sad Day

Tragically, little Charlie went into respiratory and cardiac arrest last night, and they couldn’t resuscitate him.

He was only in my life a very short time, but he made a huge impact, and I will miss him terribly.

At least he’s not sick and suffering anymore.

I love you, little guy.

  • I wish that I could say something profound, but there’s never anything anyone can say that would be just right.

You are in my thoughts. Little Charlie will be running and playing on the Rainbow Bridge.

  • Alright… so I made a post in the Pam thread below this, but I’ll say it again: I’m very sorry to hear about your little Charlie. That just sucks a ton.

  • that’s terrible. so sorry. will give my little girl some extra loving tonight on your behalf.

  • Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

  • Charlie was so cute, and he’s not suffering anymore. My animals are my family and I feel your sorrow.

  • I really, really sorry for your loss. Charlie seemed like such a cute, sweet puppy.

When I lost my cat to diabetes last year my vet gave me a card with a really sweet poem called “The Rainbow Bridge.” I’m not a cheesy person or anything, but it’s really touching for those who have lost a dear pet, if you want to look it up online. :( Again I’m very sorry.

  • I read your column everyday and saw the adorable pics of your puppy…I am so sorry that Charlie didn’t make it…you and he will be in my thoughts

  • Beet-I cannot even imagine wht you’re dealing w/ right now. Losing a pet is one of the absolute worst things that can ever happen to a person. I’m so so so sorry. Charlie isn’t sick anymore & that’s what’s important. Be happy for the time you spent w/ him & don’t be sad for the time you haven’t…you guys will be together again one day.

Sorry again & we love ya babe! ♥

  • I’m sure Charlie’s life was greatly brightened by your care and love. You should know that you made a difference in a little doggie’s life and feel good about it.

I’m so sorry. It’s a beautiful day in LA today, go to a museum or a park and try to enjoy life.

  • I’m sorry to hear about Charlie.

Just like people have a purpose, Charlie had a purpose too; it was to bring a little light into your life (I follow your blog and can tell you have been sick and stressed lately).

Take all the time you need to mourn for Charlie.

Once you’re ready, another little puppy with shiny eyes and puppy breath will be waiting for you!

  • Sweet beet!

    I’m very sorry about Charlie.
But I also wanna say thanks for sharing all the pictures and cute “obnoxious dog-owner” posts.

I’m thinking of you and Charlie, and really hope you’ll feel better very, very soon.

    x3 hugs x3

  • So sorry to hear about your puppy. It’s never easy losing a pet. At least he’s in a better place. Hope you feel better soon.

  • Oh, Beet! Yes, it was brief but you showed him so much love! Don’t let this deter you from finding another furry friend to shower with love!

  • This is terrible news!!! I had become really fond of the lil pup with no teefs!! Chin up beet. Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all… (cheesy cliché but true). I’m sendin good thoughts out for you and charlie both.

  • — aww Beet i’m so sorry about charlie! It’s always hard losing an animal, especially since you didn’t even have him for very long, but you were so attached!! Hopefully you’ll be able to get a new puppy! and maybe lay into the breeder or pet store you got charlie from for giving you a sick puppy! your in my thoughts<3

  • I’m so sorry Beet! I lost my dog a year and a half ago, and I still miss her everyday. At least you had the love of a good dog for a while. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  • RIP Charlie, I am so sorry to hear about your untimely passing.

Big hugs to you Beet. As a huge animal lover it breaks my heart to hear of your pain. He’s lucky to have someone who loved him so much for his short time.

remember, death ends a life, not a relationship

  • You made Charlie famous and he had more admirers and fans than a lot of pups. You gave him a lot in a short period of time and improved his quality of life. You did good. I’m sorry for your loss but remember, YOU DID A GREAT JOB.

  • im sorry Beet people can get so attached to pets so fast and it sucks when something happens, i wish you the best and hope little charlie is having fun up there now

i wish you the best – and hope that you’ll offer your heart to some other furry thing sooner than later. there are so many out there in shelters just waiting for a human to give them a better life.

    hope your heart heals soon…

    rip charlie.

  • So sorry, Beet…my heart breaks to read the news…But it’s so obvious he was loved beyond words by you and he’s now surely looking down and thanking you with a toothless smile…..

  • Beet,

I’m so very sorry for your loss. I know that it doesn’t really help, but you gave Charlie a very good home and he was loved and cared for before he left. He was lucky to have had you and to have had nothing but a warm loving environment during his short life.

  • I’ve never commented on here (but I honestly read the site every day) and I feel compelled to let you know, Beet, that I’m sorry for your loss and wish you nothing but the best.

  • I’m sorry to hear about your loss. I know that nothing that is said can make your suffering any less, but you are in my prayers.
Just know that you gave Charlie a good home and unconditional love. He will forever love you for that. <3333

  • thought that might happen
it happened to me years ago, for the same reason
    cheer up now
next time you have a new pet, don’t show it until it gets bigger
I know you want to share but I am sooo superstitious
    I can’t help it
no problem about mentioning it though
    just don’t show it
I know it reads stupid from a science person
but I got this from grandma

  • Oh no!!! I am so sorry!! That little Charlie was a cute one and I know that you will miss him terribly!!! Just remember….All Dogs go to Heaven!!! :)

  • I’m sorry you lost your puppy but please add “puppy” to the title, untill I read your blog I thought you’d lost a child.

  • I’m so sorry for your loss Beet. I will pray tonight that my Charlie who I lost a few years ago to cancer (he was the world’s best bassett hound) hooks up with him up in doggy heaven so they can be playmates.

  • Im soo sorry. The only thing I can say as hard is it is to hear is ADOPT a dog, there are sooo many that need good homes.. You can make a difference..

  • Beet,
How so very sad. I am so very sorry that you lost your little pup. I shed a tear for your loss. May you be comforted that you may someday see him again.

  • A Dog’s Purpose

We sat together for a while after their dog’s death, wondering aloud about
the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Their 6 year old boy,
who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.”

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned
me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good
life – like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The
six-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they
don’t have to stay as long.”

    Live simply.
    Love generously.
    Care deeply.
    Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

    * When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
    * Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
    * Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be
    pure ecstasy.
    * Take naps.
    * Stretch before rising.
    * Run, romp, and play daily.
    * Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
    * Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
    * On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
    * On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

    * When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
    * Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
    * Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.

    * Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you’re not.
    * If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
    * When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle
    them gently.
    * Be always grateful for each new day.

  • I’m so, so sorry for you. I have two little dogs myself, and when I got Eliot, my yorkie, four years ago, I would panic and almost cry on my way home every time I’d left the house (class, grocery shopping, whatever) so afraid that something would have happened to him while I was gone. (this is one of the reasons I will never have children)
I can’t even imagine what you feel like and my thoughts are with you.

  • I am so sorry, i understand how hard it must be, he was so adorable, i hope you’re ok:( Xoxo

  • Oh Beet…this breaks my heart. Yours is my favorite site to look at, because you are just too funny, and that little dog (I’m a cat person, too) was so darling it made me re-think about buying a pup. Keep your chin up sugar!

  • Dearest Beet,

I have never gone so far as commenting before, but the news of your loss has moved me to do so. I’m sure your pup brought you as much joy as you have to us, your devoted readers. Thank you for your colorful contribution to my often mundane life. I deeply regret the news of this post. My thoughts are with you beet – its not only the gloomy Wisconsin sky that weeps tonight.

  • I am so sad to hear this news i just want to cry! Poor little thing. At least he’s not suffering anymore.I’m so sorry for your loss!

  • That’s so awful! Poor you and Charlie – at least you had that small amount of time together and you did everything you could for him. That disease is so tough and he was just a pup – poor little thing. Much love xoxo

  • He was cute and you did a very admirable thing by adopting him and fighting until the very end, but you are right when you said the poor little thing shouldn’t have to suffer. He’s better off now and I hope you feel better soon as well.

  • Very sorry to hear about Charlie. If some people were half as good as animals, the world would be a better place.

  • Natasha, I’m terribly sorry to hear about your loss.
I can’t imagine what it’s like to have something so wonderful in your life, only to have it taken away. My puppy got sick shortly after I got him, and I can’t imagine losing him. Be strong.
He was the cutest little thing.

  • I’m so sorry, Beet. It sucks to lose a pet, but I’m glad he got to live with and be loved by you. I’m sure he was happiest in the time he was with you.

  • so sorry for your loss beet, but at least charlie was lucky to have such a loving mommie during the time you spent togheter, and you were lucky to have him. hang in there!

  • I’m sorry too. My grandmother used to breed Labs, and once when I was about ten, a litter of 12 came along. They all got parvo, and eight of them died. One died as I held it on my lap. They were still the size of a big burrito. I’m so, so so sorry. I can’t say it enough.

  • i’m sorry, beet….i feel for you, truly. charlie was very lucky to have found someone as caring as you, even if it was for too short a time.

  • Hi Beet. Pets are special. I am so sorry for your loss. I’ll keep both you and little Charlie in my thoughts.

  • Oh, sorry, its always depressing when something young dies, like a cute puppy! Take care!

  • Aww, Beet, I am also soooo sorry to hear about Charlie. He was definitely adorable, and his pictures made us smile too. I loved reading all of the cute stories you shared with us! I will keep you guys in my thoughts <3

  • I’m so sorry the adorable little guy is no longer with you. It is so easy to get attached instantly to such a cute little puppy and my best wishes are with you. Take care.

  • I had a Pug puppy for two days. Igby was hydrosephallic, he did really well for a day and the next day he was screaming bc he was in so much pain. The breeder put him to sleep, I cried and cried. I am so sorry for you. It doesn’t matter how long you had poopy for, you loved him and it doesn’t hurt any less.

  • OMG…I’m so sorry…

My brother’s dog had parvo and he almost died. It was great suffering for us all ’cause we are a dog lover family. But, despite all, the dog survived. We still don’t know how he survived and even the vets were surprised he survived. Parvo is very deadly and almost 90% of dogs die.
I don’t know how much pain I would have if any of my dogs would die of parvo.

I am very, very sorry for your loss.

  • I’m so sorry to hear about Charlie, Beet. He was a sweet little pup and introducing him to us made him part of all of our families too. You’re in all of our thoughts.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed reading your posts about Charlie. Give yourself some time though and try again. Dogs are wonderful friends and alot of fun (I have 2)

  • I’m so sorry you lost your pup. Because we love dogs I suppose we know how you feel. Remember the times when you were together and how happy you made him, I’m sure wherever he is he thinks of you also.

  • Geez, I’m sorry beet. It’s never easy when a life is cut so short. I hope things get better for you and just know Charlie is up there watching out for you. Big hugs.

  • damn i’m sorry to hear about your puppy. I hope things get better for you. Trust me, i know what you’re going through.

  • very sorry to hear that beet, especially since you’ve had such rough times already lately.

    rip to your little charlie

    stay strong xx

  • Barkley and I are so sorry. He says all dogs go to heaven. I think so too. There’s another little puppy somewhere in the world waiting for you.

  • Your website helps me laugh while maintaining my horrendously boring 9-5….I thought that Charlie was just adorable and was looking forward to more posts about his cute antics…from one animal lover (and a big fan of your blog) to another, just wanted to say I’m sorry for your loss.

  • I know how hard it is to lose an animal you love dearly. And, I also know how painful it can be to watch him/her suffer. The only thing that I keep in mind is that they had happy times and were loved while they were alive. You did your best and you showed your loyalty. I am sure that in Charlie’s short life he was never more loved.

  • im so sorry beet.. i like lil charlie and the good it brought out in u because he was always making u happy..
    R.I.P. CHARLIE

  • So sorry, Beet. You’ve got friends around the world thinking of you, including warm thoughts from Boston tonight. RIP Charlie.

  • Everything has already been said. As a mom of two four-legged Kids, and a mom who lost one very dear four-legged Kid several years ago, I share your pain. With sympathy to you from far away in The Sandox…

  • Oh beet im sorry bout charli he was so cute. i no who it feels i lost a dog a few days ago it suks but you;ll b in my prays

  • Oh my goodness, I am sooo sorry!! I can not even imagine what I would do without my baby! My thoughts will be with you. ~Hug!~

  • I’m so sorry. Its better that he went quickly, than a prolonged struggle and suffering, but even so, this is just very sad news and I really feel for you.

  • Sweet Charlie Baby,

We all love you and will say prayers in your honor. You are happy and chasing kitties and eating peanut butter treats in heaven. I’m so sorry, Beet. I have a baby doggy of my own and can feel your sorrow.

  • I’m so sorry to hear this – we adopted a shih tzu from the pount who died of a brain tumour (he had him for less than two years) and only shared the story of him and his teeth on the weekend.

Time will help a little but you can take heart in that he was very loved in his short happy life.

  • Beet, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I’ve lost several pets in my life, and it’s a very devastating thing to go through.

Just remember, little Charlie will forever be in gratitude for trying to save his life. Though his life was short, he received a lot of love and care, and that’s what’s most important.

He has a great Mommy. :)

Hang in there, sweetheart. Just remember… he’s not suffering anymore.

  • i’m so so so sorry, thats horrible!
but like everyone has said, you did everything you could – he’s in a happier place now :)
keep your chin up, your luck will turn soon enough
    x

  • Things like this should never happen. I’m sorry too, I don’t know you, but you go through the trouble to keep us informed, and entertained, and its not just like watching the news, because you tell it your way, it seems more personal… any way Hope something wonderful happens to you today!

  • I never leave comments, but I know what you’re going thru..I’m so sorry for your loss. At least you know he died happy and loved.

  • I firmly believe the Rainbow Bridge idea (my Fred is there too, I’ll bet!). My heart goes out to you, dear. Stay strong.

  • Oh Charlie, at the Bridge you will have some teef to chew a rawhide, and you wont have parvo and you can play and run and feel like a puppy should.

Beet, I am so sorry. I just had 2 of my ferrets put to sleep within months of each other, and its devistating.

My heart breaks for any animal that leaves us.

  • I think all these comments are your guide back to faith. I can’t even imagine what you must feel like right now and I’m sitting here at my desk tears flowing… people looking at me like I’m insane. It’s always very sad when people loose their pets but it’s devestating to feel like you’re loosing your faith when it’s got you through so much. You are a complete stranger to me but my heart is breaking for you right now. I think the fact that so many people all over the place are mourning with you and don’t even know you should show you how powerful God is. I’m not religious either but God and faith are a whole different story.

Cheers to you and Cheers to Charlie! Tonight we all drink to Charlie!!

  • Oh Beet! Hang in there! You made Charlies life better for the time that you were in it! HUGS!

  • I cry if my fish dies so I can only imagine what you are going through. Best wishes to you mate you’ll get through this and i’m sure Charlie will be looking out for you in puppy heaven and whe you are ready he’ll send you another puppy friend to love and care for and who will love and care for you too!

Just know we are all thinking of you mate!!

    Love lots Caz xoxo xxxx

  • Im so sorry
At least hes not suffering anymore.

The pet shop owners should fuck themselves.

Anyway , i hope you get another puppy that makes you just as happy

    x

  • I am so sorry about your dog. I hope that you are doing ok.
From a faithful reader of your blog!
    Jennifer

  • OH NO!!!! I am so sorry, and I am glad that you are exposing that crap Pet’s Landing Place for this.

  • I am the 150th person to be sorry for your loss, Parvo sucks majorly.

I love you! feel better, because no matter what you made his life awesome. And thats what really matters.

  • I’m so sorry for your loss. Poor little guy. It’s really sad that the animals that love us unconditionally and just want to be loved back, are the ones with the shortest lifespan and have the most painful undeserved deaths. I’ll keep you in my prayers. With best wishes, – Chris –

  • So sorry to hear your news. Some people cant understand how a pet becomes like family but I do. If I lost any of my pets,it would be like losing a child.

Once again, very sorry to hear your sad news.

  • so sorry to hear about charlie. i hope you don’t give up having another puppy.

animals makes us appreciate life a whole lot more…….

but i guess, you know that now.

  • I’m so sorry. I lost my dog a little while ago and am still very sad about it, and am sure you feel the same way about your little Charlie. But remember, “the price we all pay for love is grief”.
