Today's Evil Beet Gossip

Okay, How Lame Were the VMAs This Year?

Soooooo lame.

The only saving grace was Chris Brown’s performance. That shit rocked. Everything else was so stupid.

Memo to MTV: don’t ever, ever host a live performance in Las Vegas again. If anyone wants a job as a producer for MTV, I have a feeling there are going to be a few spots opening up in the coming days.

Everyone was drunk, obnoxious and boring. And did Kid Rock really get in a fight with Tommy Lee? I can’t wait to hear the whole story on that. That might be my favorite part of the whole night, except for when Jennifer Garner announced that “Gym Class Fallout” had won for Best New Artist, while Jamie Foxx carried on a conversation with Diddy from the stage. Super professional, guys. Awesome.

Did anyone actually enjoy tonight’s show?

  • God it was pretty much terrible. I can’t think of a good enough word to describe how awful the ENTIRE thing was. It wasn’t like, “ooh they messed that part up”…it was like…”um, is there going to be a moment when things go RIGHT?”

    To which there wasn’t.

  • After watching Britneys horribly uncomfortable opening I turned off the tv after about 10 mins in. ugh I didn’t expect it to go down hill so early on…

  • everything was pretty much horrible! chris brown looked like he was lip-syncing and the only good performance singing wise was alicia keys and rhianna

  • I think Chris Brown was definitely lip-synching. And JT, get over yourself.

As for the actual awards, “Quadruple threat?????” WTF is that? Everyone and their dog has a clothing line, my husband and I were laughing at that. None of those people should be compared to Bono. “Monster Collaboration???” I found the “parties” stupid as well. I loved at the beginning when they showed the Fall Out Boy party and Pete Wentz was talking and you know he was thinking we was saying the most clever shit ever but there was no sound. That was amusing. And seeing some of the lame-ass losers in the parties were funny too.

We turned it too. We felt too old to watch it. It was all too stupid.

  • It was horrible. And they did show RERUNS. It was on again after the first showing. I knew MTV sucked, but I kinda always looked forward to the VMA’s. Not anymore. I think at 30, I’m done. It will never be like the good old days…I’ve been holding out for that to happen for way too long.

  • I hope this is a wake up call. MTV is worthless and has been for years. Time to douche that flaccid ‘pop’ mill once and for all!

  • the only good thing about last night’s performance was chris brown and alicia keys. mtv has forgotten what the LITERALLY stand for (MUSIC TELEVISION!?!?!?) i completely agree with what jt kept saying throughout the night: play more MUSIC!!! enough of this reality shit.

the show was boring and badly produced, then again so is mtv. if i see one more laguna beach spinoff i’m gonna vomit.

  • I never thought the Teen Choice Awards could beat the shit out of Mtv. Kelly Clarkson would have been a breath of fresh air at this shit fest. Alicia Keys sucks her voice sounded like shit. Can no one perform live anymore!?

  • I did think it funny that JT didn’t even acknowledge those girls from The Hills and then went on to say in his speech that MTV has to start playing videos and stop with the reality tv.

  • I didn’t even know the VMAs were on until I happened to flip to MTV for about 5 minutes, in which Rihanna won Monster hit (and I friggen HATE that song; it’s so uninspired) and then they started in on the Quadruple threat category, at which point I turned the channel. What the hell.

MTV should be executed for such atrocities to music, however, it makes too much money for it to die at this point, and that’s just the sad truth.

  • Chris Brown does not “lip-sync”. His performances are mainly focused on his (AWESOME) dancing so most of the time he doesn’t sing and the track is playing in the background. It’s very hard to do hard hip-hop moves as well as crunk dancing while belting out perfectly pitched notes. When he does open his mouth he actually uses his voice.

Rihanna on the other hand will display how very easy it is to sing off key while remarkably not doing a single piece of hard choreography!

  • I tyhink Kanye was the best!!! I like the host… he told the truth and was funny! The people who got the awards did not deserve them! Especially Brittany!
