Michael Moore vs. CNN: Round Two

You all seemed very interested in yesterday’s videos of Sicko director Michael Moore, and CNN aired the second part of that interview today. So here’s the video for those of you who are interested. Moore seems a little calmer by this point than he did in the first part of the interview, but still an interesting discussion.

  • beet, I am a huge fan of the site, but I gotta say a few things here.

Who are you going to believe a film maker who speant a couple of years, but more likely a couple of months researching his piece, (and my guess is he was handed some notes with pre-researched material). This man uses only the facts that back up his hypothesis and discards those that don’t. I don’t even think he does it on purpose. I don’t think he even sees the other side of the argument, ever.
So are you going to believe him or a healthcare professional and journalist who has dedicated his life to the study of the human body and the medical industry. Also, Dr. Gupta’s piece did not sandbag Michael Moore’s piece. It pointed out a few inconsistencies with his facts, but credited it for raising an important question at a critical time. He also credited Moore where his facts were acurate, which was more frequently than he discredited them. Every doctor I know and trust me, that’s a lot, takes the Hypocratic oath, so very seriously (first do no harm), that it is my belief that there are very few doctors who would trade their integrity for a few measly sheckles. I do believe that Dr. Gupta takes the oath just as seriously. If one were to talk to a doctor, there is no argument that managed care and the insurance companies and the system we currently have is a disaster where many are paying way more than they need to be, and few are getting the care necessary. Only a small minority of doctors would argue in favor of socialized medicine. Think about the post office, do you want your hospital run like that? Remember, America ranks number one in patient satisfaction, this is the country where most of the cutting edge medical research is being done, and many more foreigners are coming here to get very specialized procedures than are americans going outside of our borders for specialized procedures. Lastly, Moore has a very powerful tool with the editing room and his ability to spin facts in his favor, which his usually the way he sees them. His movies should be looked at like OpEd pieces, not newsreel. And lastly, he was just mean to Wolf Blitzer, who did a fantastic job in the interview which I happened to see live.

  • Okay, in fairness to me, if you read the first part of this discussion (http://www.evilbeetgossip.com/2007/07/09/michael-moore-goes-wonderfully-apeshit-on-cnn/) , I did point out that:

    a) I know nothing about anything, but especially about this sort of thing and

    b) Wolf Blitzer handled the situation very well

I tend not to have a strong opinion on most political issues, as I tend not to be very informed about them, and it’s been extremely interesting for me to read all your opinions, from countries all over the world, on this topic.

I think, if nothing else, Moore achieved his goal of making healthcare a major issue in the upcoming U.S. elections, and I’m interested to see what our candidates have to say as the election progresses.
