Isaiah Washington Is Really Tired of Being a Working Actor

Isaiah Washington Grey’s Anatomy

It’s like this guy is on auto-destruct.

After being unceremoniously dismissed from the friendly set of Grey’s Anatomy, Isaiah Washington continues to remind us that he’s still “mad as hell.” Mad like a hatter, folks. Totally batshit.

First and foremost, Isaiah opens our eyes to the sad reality that there is no such thing as Promises: Homophobia Edition, where otherwise well-adjusted men with an uncontrollable need to occasionally call other people faggots sit around in a circle and admit that they are powerless over same-sex anal penetration.

“There is no rehab for homophobia—that was just some crap being put out by the network,” he says. “I went into an executive counseling program which many people in this industry know about and go to. They knew what the program was but chose to call it what they wanted to fit their agenda.”

And if you, like me, have been kept up at night worrying that Washington would somehow manage to complete this career free-fall without once attempting to hold up the race card as a makeshift parachute, you can sleep again.

“Well, it didn’t help me on the set that I was a black man who wasn’t a mush-mouth Negro walking around with his head in his hands all the time. I didn’t speak like I’d just left the plantation and that can be a problem for people sometime,” he says.

“I had a person in human resources tell me after this thing played out that ‘some people’ were afraid of me around the studio. I asked her why, because I’m a 6-foot-1, black man with dark skin and who doesn’t go around saying ‘Yessah, massa sir’ and ‘No sir, massa’ to everyone?”

In other news, when fellow black, dark-skinned castmates Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, Jr. were asked to comment on whether they felt ABC had handled the situation appropriately, they responded, “Yessah, massa sir. Kin we go back outsahd in’ git back to our cotton now?”

  • Look carefully, folks…

…next time you hear about this clown will be in the Trivial Pursuit ‘Whatever Happened To’ Edition, c. 2010

  • I get it…white people are sick and tired of Isaiha’s whinning…as are most Black people..trust…but Can I share something real quick….ummm ..IT DOES NOT SOUND FAR FETCHED..in fact im quite sure in his lifetime more than once he was “perceived” by certain white folks(ahem TR Knight) to be a bit “hostile” and “agressive” purely due to his size and complexion …It’s very plausible that this happened…shit if it happened to my skinny ass 12 years old brother….i can see it happening to Isaiha…

    ps
absolutely think firing him was the right thing to do if he called anyone on that set the f word….he should have known better…

  • Well said, GrapeDrink. I fully accept that all sorts of racism exists in the industry, but he’s a complete hypocrite to play that card AFTER administrating his self-justified bigotry towards homos. There are ways to wisely turn bigotry/racism on the bigot…and I’m afraid Knight beat him to the punch. IW should’ve picked a tactic and stuck with it. Now, he just comes off as a whiny, angry cooze fishing for support.

He played himself, and I’m so disgusted.

  • i believe the dude when he says he didn’t direct it to TR, it was to Patrick, which puts a whole new perspective/spin on things. I don’t agree 100% with his statements (and mush mouth, really?) but I kinda feel him.

  • Just wanted to say, BRILLIANT post Evil Beet!!! Haha.

I’m not that surprised with Isaiah’s statements. He craves attention. Ya gotta make noise by playing the race card, then you branch out into revealing your mental instability until you finally come out and call everything a mistake.

Isaiah has yet to apologize for speaking to the press at all. He owes us all an apology for his ignorance but we have a long way to go. Expect to hear more from this head case.

I can’t remember when anyone (famous or not) organized such a successful future unemployment campaign.

  • Personally I still love George Takei’s acceptance of Isaiah’s appology to the Queer Community. Personally though I think it’s a cop out when someone brings the race card into play…its a tactic used only when one’s position is weak…kinda like resorting to ‘Yo Momma’ jokes.

  • I’m not a Grey’s fan but when this mess blew up, I read that a Black woman, was the creator of the series and wanted to explore how she might navigate this sh*t storm. I got the 1st season DVDs at my local library and behold… the first 4 episodes were about TR’s character’s sexuality. It seemed that almost everyone was either calling him gay or asking whether he was gay. Check it out for yourself!

BTW, Working in Hollywood is NOT like the corporate mindfield of backstabbings you folks navigate every day–that’s childs play compared to a “hostile work environment” REALLY creative people can come up with.

By way of example, imagine trying to protect your employee rights working in the porn industry–where folks are taking off their clothes and doing God knows what as part of their job description. An oxymoron? Perhaps.

There are executives and stars in Hollywood that are notorious asses. Everyone knows this. They are often celebrated for this. They say and do whatever they want without consequence. These people are often so powerful (ie making somebody so much money) that they become untouchable.

The favored way to rid yourself of a Black person (or anyone in this industry) is to deem them threatening. A common occurance is the executive on a screaming tirade publically berating his assistant. This person, as a matter of course, uses language that is totally unacceptable in your world but is SOP in theirs. It’s sometimes the only way that women executives are seen as on par with their male counterpart. This is often called “paying your dues”

A person of color in this industry can quickly find out how much power they wield by actually having an opinion; making an unpopular declarative statement or behaving contrary to the (often unspoken) codes of conduct. They can quickly become persona non grata if there’s no rabbi with a net to shield you from your bad self.

As in Mr. Washington’s case, you wouldn’t believe how PC people become when it serves their purpose. Just ask Mr. Gibson what it feels like to fall through the “net.”

  • I was just chatting with my coworker about this yesterday at Outback steak house. Don’t know how in the world we got on the subject actually , they brought it up. I do recall eating a amazing fruit salad with cranberries on it. I digress…

  • I am frequently looking for somebody to alternative posts together with, I’m a university student and possess a web site right here on our campus internet site. The subject of your respective web log and writting design and style would definitely go great in a few of my category’s, let me know if you are up for this.
